I have two male cats, we take them to the vet together every time and when we get home, they fight so aggressively. We end up separating them every time, but it goes on for days and days. What else can we do to avoid this? One of the cats tends to hide and “hold a grudge” against the other one.

I recently had one of my cats neutered, and in hindsight, I made a mistake by allowing my male cat immediate access to the newly neutered cat upon returning home from the vet. The scent of the veterinary visit seemed to trigger aggressive behavior from the resident cat, leading to persistent hissing and attacks on the newly neutered cat. Despite my attempt to reintroduce them last night, the situation did not improve. I will try this technique, and will update if it works. Or I'll come back here and ask for other ways :)

      Did it work for you?

@@stephanieatkins1238 YES, indeed, it worked like a charm. To familiarize my newly neutered cat with the scents of the other cats, I gently wiped a shirt on them and then wrapped it around the neutered one. Patiently, I waited for about four hours before allowing them to share a space. Much to my surprise, there was no sign of aggression! Since that successful introduction, they have been peacefully coexisting in the same room. :)

@@glorix_13666 they are finally getting along now, 2.5 weeks after being fixed. They hiss sometimes but they are playing again and annoying each other like they once did. I think it just took them some time, and I broke up any fighting that tried starting with water bottles

Hi my older cat starts to hiss at my younger cat who went to the vet. This has led to my younger cat jumping and attacking my older cat as soon as he sees him. How do I stop my younger cat from attacking the older cat

Try scent swapping first; keeping them separate for a bit and reintroducing may also be necessary. The younger cat is confused by the smell from the clinic and thinks it's a different cat.

It's probably redirected aggression from her stressful trip to the vet. A few recommendations would be to redirect that aggression with a play session using her favorite wand toy. You can also put a green or baby blue towel, blanket or piece of clothing in her pet carrier for the trip to help her feel more calm and grounded. A supplement like Cat Calm by Feline Essential or some energy work to release emotional blocks/stressors would be a huge help. Give her some alone time to calm down when returning home, too.
