You are sooo fortunate to have, two of the most BEAUTIFUL cats that I’ve ever seen!!! I had to put my beautiful kitty of 20 years down 2 months ago on the 20th of this month! It is extremely hard to deal with this, let alone to try to find another cat equivalent to what I had!!! I can only hope and pray!!! ❤️🙏🏻
I am so sorry for your loss. I know it is very hard. Seek and ye shall find - your next kitty is out there =). I had an awesome one before these two...that's how I understand your loss. He was 19.5 years when he passed.
Thank you Jenny for sharing this very special video of Trigg’s dental recovery. From what you’ve said everything was as routine as a dental can be, except for the one extraction.I hope Trigg feels ‘ok’. Did Dr give him something for the pain ? I know how important these dentals are, but it still makes me sad to see Trigg not himself. Promise you’ll do video of Chiggy out in ‘his’ garden being Chiggy when he’s feeling better.
My 2 Birmans always go together to the vet. They absolutely hate each other when we get home. They are in the same exam room within sight of each other, usually just for their annual checkups & shots. They are brother & sister, 12 years old & have done this every single time without fail. The pissiness lasts several hours. Hissing, growling, half-hearted swats. Then like a light switch turning off, they are fine.
This was useful as we're taking our six-month-old male ragdoll to be neutered in a week and he'll be coming home to our 7-year-old female after being gone all day. Thanks for the tips!
you're welcome - hope it works - if not, you'll have to lock your male in a room until he smells like him again - that's what it is - they don't smell like themselves and they're acting super weird.
I had nooooo idea this happens or I would’ve used your suggestions. My two cats were inseparable mates and now …well, you know. I pray the one comes around. I feel bad for the one that was sick in the hospital that already had a traumatic visit there and now this. Whew!!
ugh. i am sorry. your vet isn't a vet that knows cats if they didn't warn you about that. man!! makes me upset when i find out a vet doesn't give a multi-cat owner that head's up. our all cat vet told me about it the first time, and i didn't believe it would be a problem because my parents' cats never had that problem. so i learned the first time, even with a head's up. sometimes you can re-introduce them with your smells. almost go through a new cat introduction process.
@@Floppycats I just called the er vet to tell them to tell multi cat owners this info and they said it’s not common. Wow!! I’ll be looking for a CAT specialty vet after this experience!

I cannot really follow what you've written - hard for me to read things without punctuation. But, I think one of your cats is drugged? If so, just put them in a safe room until they are not druggy anymore. and then try to reintroduce after you have rubbed them down with your scent from a t-shirt you've worn all day or something.
Aww, poor Chiggy. :( I'm not looking forward to taking Sassy for a dental. When I took him for his follow-up after visiting the emergency clinic, the vet said he had some tartar build up and signs of gingivitis. Since I had just gotten him, he was adjusting and having some digestive problems, the vet didn't want to do the dental. I wouldn't have allowed it anyway even if they said it was OK. She said it was OK to leave it for now, but to do it some time in the next 6 months.
@@Floppycats hi Jenny. Yes, this is Ken. The diarrhea was weird and mucus like. Had some vomit, he pretty much stopped eating by the time I took him. He also seemed to have lost energy. I had an appointment with a regular vet moved up to the next morning but he scared the hell out of me. Gave him fluids, vitamins and something to help settle his digestive tract. Sent us home with prescription food and a probiotic paste (which was a trip to administer). Got him home and he was back to the cat I had brought home. All of it was likely stress and a gut imbalance. Expensive, but I don't care. Thought I was going to lose him.
This has been very helpful as we are bringing our 11 year old cat home from the vet tomorrow (he has been there for 5 days!) and wondering how our 4 year old cat is going to treat him!!
I’m really going through it my sister put her two bonded tuxedo cats in the shelter I couldn’t bare the thought of them getting separated so I adopted them I even had a pet transport service pick them up from Virginia and bring them to Georgia. I’ve never seen the female cat be so mean to the male cat she’s never hissed or growled at him. They shared everything the litter box, the food bowl , water bowl, & toys. They slept together cuddling and groomed each other. But now she won’t even let him near her & I can tell it’s making him sad I was scared she might hurt him so I separated them. She even tried to hit him with no nails so I know she’s just scared. I’m scared that by being separated for a week in the shelter that it’s broken their bond🥺🥺🥺 I’m gonna try this & see if it helps
wow - good on you for adopting them! And yes, MAJOR CHANGES for them. She should come around - but yes, your home, your things, etc. smells like nothing she was used to and who knew the trauma she dealt with in the shelter. Poor thing. JUST TAKE A LOT OF TIME TO REINTRODUCE them - even weeks would be OK until she doesn't want to attack. Check out the tips here too - www.floppycats.com/how-to-introduce-cats.html
@@Floppycats update she’s seems ok with the scent of him but once she sees his face she starts hissing she’s not growling anymore so that’s progress to me I’ve been feeding them on opposite sides of a pet gate for a week now however the male cat figured out how to jump the gate 2 days ago and when he does that it also scares her then she starts hissing he’s also sleeping outside my door where I have her base camp set up he really wants his friend back. I’ve also taking the initiative to buy a cat wall jungle and some cat steps so maybe she can feel more secure about her surroundings if she doesn’t have to creep around the house which is way bigger than my sister house her previous home was only a one story house. I’m also gonna need a taller gate🤣
@@taylorjackson7661 Sounds like there is progress - but I would take it even slower - like don't let them see each other's faces - only paws under a door or something like that and then when you graduate to a baby gate, then, yes, do that for a few weeks.
One of my house cats got outside came back in a few hours later. The other cat started hissing at the cat that got outside. I tried bathing her in dry shampoo, and drying her with one of my dirty shirts. Lol didn’t work. I have to go back to point A. When I first adopted a second cat. That process took 3 weeks! Smh.
as often as the vet says it's necessary. it depends on their teeth and where they are at. i used to brush mine, but it didn't make any difference, so i stopped. feeding raw/frankenprey is the best way to avoid dentals.
Watching this in preparation for stray kitten spay day tmw - two of the five (the strays) will get spayed and then return to our other three cats. The t-shirt rub will be trialled, in addition to the wet towel rub down. I also have to get rid of all vet invoices and immediately scent neutralise the carriers. The seniors cannot stand any vet smell. But the t-shirt scent rub will be trialled.
@@Floppycats This sounds gross but…I know that my cats do like (there is no other way to describe this) the smell of my pits. So, when the boys got back from the vet I did rub them down with a well cured :-) shirt. For one, both of them relaxed. I got an audible purr out of Schnitzler (he is quite a remote cat) and Figgy was loving it. Not too many hisses so far. I will carry on grooming them to lose more Vet smell. But this is a thumbs up.
I just took one of my cats to the vet and the other one doesn’t recognize her. I have a total of 4 vet appointments for my cats, one check up and one dental cleaning each. My cats are bonded. I hope I don’t break up their relationship.
I have/had 2 British Shorthair cats, brothers, Sylvester and Alex. Sadly we lost Sylvester in the end of 2017 to heart disease, then he had been on heart medication (and lots of other medication he needed together with that one) for about 6 months until there wasn't more to do and we had to say goodbye. Alex is still alive and very healthy, he will turn 14 years old on August 21. The only sad part is that last year they discovered that he has gotten FORL (Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions) and the vet had to pull out 18 teeth, 9 on each side. So they did of course do one side at a time and let him heal well before they took the other side. But it was very nerve wrecking for me, and for him too I can imagine. Luckily it all went fine and he is doing very well without most of his teeth now. The vet told us that even if we brush his teeth regularly this dental disease can't be prevented sadly. They will still recommend to brush the cats teeth to prevent other dental problems for cats (and dogs). So we still brush the few teeth he has left in hope that he gets to keep them. Two weeks ago we got another cat, a kitten, our first Ragdoll cat who we have named Charlie. We have been introducing him slowly to Alex but to our surprise Alex have accepted him almost at once and now they are already good friends and play together. Alex is almost like a kitten again :) We still don't let them stay together without us being there with them but it seems to be going very well, better then we could ever have hoped for. Alex has always been a very calm and mellow cat but you can never know how a cat will react towards a newcomer :) I know you brush Charlie and Triggs teeth regularly, but that doesn't mean that they never will get dental problems, but hopefully a lot less dental problems at least :) I hope Trigg will be back to his normal self soon. Give him a hug from Alex and Charlie (my Charlie that is haha).
that is wonderful about charlie and alex. yes, you lucked out with alex's reaction. i am sorry to hear about the FORL situation for Alex. no, i do not brush charlie and trigg's teeth regularly -it made no difference in the frequency of dentals. i firmly believe the only way to prevent dentals is to feed them a whole prey diet (and supplemental from there) so they are biting, pulling, etc. meat from the bones. otherwise, there is not much that prevents it.
