Ring king have a special place in my heart. It was the first boxing game I ever played. I remember having been sent home from school because I got chickenpox. When I got home, my brother borrowed the game from one of his friends. As a blind gamer and boxing fan, I played the game for days, and even offered to buy the game from my brother's friend when he wanted his game back, but no dice. Ever since that day, the game continued to elude me even as the Nintendo entertainment system died. That is, until last week. I was finally able to get a good gaming emulator on my phone, and obviously this was the first one I downloaded.
I loved this damn game… this was part of the Couch Tournaments.. Ring King, Double Dribble, Tecmo Bowl, Pro Wrestling, Track and Field, RBI Baseball, RC ProAm, Karate Champ and Skate or Die
Patman hitting it out of the park once again! My beloved arcade, Golfland in Whittier,Ca had this game in 86-87 and it was one of my favorites. Thanks for a trip down memory lane once again!
Oh man, just seeing the title of this game unlocked a core memory from my very early childhood. I think my first arcade experience was playing this and Popeye.

Congratulations on your Midwest Milwaukee Gaming Classic Expo show and panel times on April 5th through 6th 2024, I hope it's a great video game themed show! Great coverage on the fist to fist brawler, Ring King. Thanks! Fight Night on C64 looked great. The NES port was ahead of its time with the larger sprites matching the arcade.
You Americans are spoiled for the Retro gaming crowd, not quite the same here in Australia, so I'm very envious of you guys who get to attend these conventions. Thanks again for the quality videos.
I played this in a UK arcade - it was cheap to play and really addictive, so it was all I played! A remake would do incredibly well, it's a no brainer, as there's zero boxing games, and boxing games have huge potential to be great fun and easy to make.
I was all about boxing when I was a kid. I grew up watching Tyson fights on Pay Per View and of course was a huge Punch Out fan. Punch Out was one of the few games I still played on my Nes after getting my Genesis in '89. I still played Punch Out even after getting my Snes because it was so damn cool. I finally put it down when Super Punch Out released for the Snes. At any rate, I did not know this game existed let alone had an Nes port. Man, I wish it had been ported to the Genesis as well because it could have been arcade perfect with the extended RPG elements. That equals an insta-buy for me. I was so taken by boxing that I purchased Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing for my Genesis the minute I found out it was a thing. The graphics were out of this world but after 20 or 30 minutes of play I was already over it. Too bad, this game would have been a much better buy. :(
Another funny, entertaining and fantastic video PatmanQC. Everytime you drop a new vid I immediately watch it and then inevitably fall asleep to your greatest hits that night.🤟
Nice video dude. I played this game a few times back in the day and enjoyed it. There used to be a mobile fairground that would show up at the wasteground at the bottom of my road when I was a kid and it had an arcade. I'd play many games there including Turtles, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Out Run and this. I always thought it was quite fun and never knew there was home ports (the NES or MSX not being very popular at all here in the UK). Thanks again for the great content aas always! :)
yeah, this cab was way in the back of our big arcade...I stumbled across it late on weeknight and a rare solo excursion to the arcade...immediately loved it - and still love it today via MAME
I've loved this game ever since I first played it in 1991 when I was 7 or 8 years old. It's easy to pick up and play but there's a level of strategy that comes into play where if you think you will button mash your way to the end that will stop after fighting about 3 or 4 boxers. The added touch of increasing ring stats through training also adds an extra dimension to the game where sometimes the slightest upgrade can make or break how well you do for the next match. Believe it or not, the controversy with your trainer in between matches I literally never noticed it the entire time I played the game but after the memes started going around it's like...now I can't unsee it lol 😇
Thank you a million times Fellow Ring Kinger. I used to beat the game on one quarter. Such a proud dork I was. The key to beating the game is countering. Nail the guys just as the mustachioed guys inevitably rush you.
Thanks for this. This was a good choice for a video. I appreciate that you brought up Ready 2 Rumble during it. I hadn't played that in so long. I decided to revisit it. In doing so, I've been playing it all day. I enjoy the videos themselves. A bonus is I get re-interested in games that I haven't played for a while. Lastly, I'd still like to see you do Space Invaders some day. God bless. Be well, Patrick.
One of my favorites on the NES. I think I have the arcade board floating around somewhere. Great video! Have fun at MGC. Also Daniel Pesina is super gracious and awesome dude and everyone should visit him at MGC. I'll never forget when I was dropping off a Street Fighter Big Blue cabinet I had sold to the Ghost and he happened to be in the lot and helped me unload it. It was pure irony that an MK character helped me unload a SF cab from my truck. Also Immoral Hulk Hogan almost made me spit out my coffee.
I vividly remember Mike Tyson's Punch Out for the Arcade and the NES! I also believe there are many other interesting games you could cover! Like some other Data East platforms (Joe and Mac, Tumblepop) or another underrated beat em up from Capcom (Warriors of Fate) Anyway, I've immediately put a like because it's not the first time that I say Patman is........ THE BEST UA-camR EVER!!!!! 😁😁👍👍 Happy Easter Pat!! You deserve it! The world needs people like you now more than ever
this just brings back so many memories... first, the intellivision boxing. my friend next door had the intellivision and i had the atari and colecovision. anyhoo, when we played games like baseball, he wouldn't let me use the key card with the moves so he could beat me easily. well, boxing didn't really require more than a couple moves, so i always beat the tar out of him. he even went as far as saying he dropped a brick on the system and broke it to avoid playing me. now, as far as ring king goes, especially on the nintendo, well, i got really mad at that game and threw it at the wall! the plastic case broke, but if you take the screws out and reset the chip, it still worked. i still have that game. it still works and i still get really mad at it, so rarely play it.
I remember playing this with a friend when i was in the group home. My friend Jerome (the rat)Johnson use to whoop me every time. Talk about rage quitting before it was ever a thing.
Enjoy the expo! I wish I could make it, but that’s awesome to hear that Eugene Jarvis and Daniel Pesina will be there! I met them both at Galloping Ghost Arcade last decade, which was quite the treat.
one of my absolute favorite nes games. i stared playing it not really knowing what the situation was with it. when i figured it out. i was hooked!! love it!!
I need to watch this video more to understand the full controversy of the game, but interestingly, 2:05 you mentioned people taking out their aggression with this game. I find part of it to be very rhythmical, and being a musical person, when I was very little, I would visit the arcade a lot with my babysitters, and they would play this game, and I always wondered, why games like ring king king, as we call it, connected music and anger. Then. Bop it came along, and it was interesting how you could test your reflexes and stay present in the moment while dealing with big feelings. I think in certain ways it helped me cope later on in life.

Yeah but what was he SUPPOSED to be doing? That's what I don't know.
