So thankful the algorithm landed me on your channel, can't get enough of these videos. It's so refreshing to see another person enjoying the same hobby in a humble setting like myself I don't feel so alone. Personally I get tired of seeing all these channels where the tech guys have these elaborate rooms all tricked out in with the most expensive and and over the top rigs and accessories building $30k PCs. Thank you again for your service to the community and for your hard work pumping out these videos for our enjoyment!
🙂 yup im surprised pc builders dont stress the fact that by Default you should have two monitors, im always moving stuff over to the second screen, its just alot easier than opening and closing multiple windows
I love a good thrift find too they use to be pc goldmines but recently they have caught on to use grabbing up all the cheap tech and have starting slapping over priced stickers on everything.
Nice finds, can't beat two working screens for under 10 bucks! Also congrats on the step away from your full time career and the ability to start making more content. Keep up the good work!
Could consider getting some KVM switches that allow you to connect the same monitor, keyboard and mouse to multiple computers and switch over with the press of a button. Those monitors are definetely low quality, can tell by the viewing angles, but you're not gaming on them, they are perfectly fine for what you need them for. I keep some very old monitors and TVs around for working on PCs, servers, or when I just need to debug something. All that matters is getting something on screen, don't need to be high resolution, high refresh rate, accurate colors
🙂 sure, its because alot of things can be retrofitted and used for other purposes that it never was intended for, especially if your a Homeowner this is a basic skill that you need to caretake your home and save money and time, of course you need a large enough house to Hoard Stuff and become a good organizer and organize everything with lots of shelves and boxes and crates
Been on the market place recently picking up a ton of crappy/scrap builds. $50 for 3 semi complete FX systems. Gonna scrap the cases and use them as test dummies
🤠 oh wow, i did the exact samething, i picked up three FX systems last Spring, only this month Im finally getting around to upgrading them into modern PC Cases, i also picked up an OEM Acer with an i7, the motherboard looks standard matx, so im going to transplant it into a standard Montech matx case
$8 is a steal for two working 1080p monitors and the free wall mount was the perfect addition. Low budget and no budget can still get the job done, you just have use the old noggin a little more. Love the channel! p.s.- when you make the shelf, get creative... wood is easy, but some frankensteined broken PC parts might make for a better look.
I tend to recommend monitors that have external power bricks because of how often I have power supply issues. If you have a monitor with an internal supply it's usually alot harder to fix versus just buying a new power brick.
i would very strong disagree. i much more prefer ones with internal psu's. there very easy to repair and cheap to repair. if an internal one dies i can just drive to the hardware store buy the parts to fix it that cost literal pennies and have it fixed in an hour, power bricks are a pain in the ass to try open and repair and to order one and have it shipped could be days to a week and its like 20$. so pennies and same day fix VS 20$ and a week wait.. think the winner is clear pick
@@chloeprice8 I have a monitor that has a broken internal power supply that you can have if you want it. I don't know how to diagnose it nor do I have easy access to internal electronic components except by mail order. This is the reason for my opinion above.
Good find, and nice mounting! I can't help myself.. I gotta.. "Can't see if from a helicopter' caught me off guard and I laughed rather hardily (Thanks!)
Fun fact--while modern monitors with no bezel look cooler, they are less durable to handling and storage as the panel is more vulnerable. This becomes aparent with used monitors that may have been stacked / stored multiple to a box and got pressure damage--bezel really helps protect the screen. Currently using 2 Dell U2412's with thick bezels that I got used and very happy with them.
0:47 I have that same Mint Green case. I love it! It's got an older Intel Xeon 1230 v2 build in it. ITX MB. Going to buy another and shove a mATX MB in it to see how it fits in there.
Those Monitors were a good purchase, especially that cheap. I'm pretty sure all electronic devices sold in thrift stores have to be tested for safety and function prior to being sold, otherwise they are scrapped.
🙂 i prefer the more expensive monitor arms that have multiple linkages, kinda like what they use for Boom Mics, they can swing around and you can tilt and pivot and twist. As far as heating the most effective way to heat a garage is to run a gas pipe to the garage and install a Natural Gas Heater like you see at Stores, and insulate the walls with Pink Panther, and the Garage Door would need to be changed out for one that is filled with Insulation. Then your pretty much golden. Of course since your a mechanic like me I would suggest eventually moving and find a place that has a three car garage and install a Hydraulic Lift in one of the bays 😎🚗🚗🚗
My parents come to me for computer and electronic parts because I keep everything unless its completely broken! I have boxes of adapters, cords for everything! Maybe a mini hoarder
My grandparents (dad part), OH MY GOD they keep every single thing they get ! They have such a big house that's why. But the garage... You will love it, there is a kind of "upstairs int that garage with a desk and computers or TVs I don't know. And the garage itself can greet 4 CARS ! We tested. Go live in Morocco and buy a big house they are cheap.
😊 cool, normally here the standard is 2 car garage or 2.5 car garage, its not easy to find 3 car garages unless your in the upper class. Normally here one car garage are for people that are Renting an Apartment or Condo. In warmer climates instead of garages i noticed that some homes only have a Carport which is basically a garage without walls and only has a Roof its usually attached to the house i see that alot in Florida.
Definitely a great buy for $4 each. I'm not in love with the ergonomics of the monitors being on the side wall. Having to crane my neck around 90 degrees would drive me nuts. If it were me, I'd take the peg board down, mount the monitors in the center of that wall, then cut the peg board into 3 peices, one for each side of the monitors and whatever is left I'd mount where the monitors used to be... Then I could sit down and look directly at the monitors in front of me, no weird angles. But thats just me. You do you.
🙂 I mentioned something similar, those monitor arms are just way too small too short and too cheap, the spot where you bolted is OK but you need to use larger longer more expensive arms so that you can swing the monitor to a much more comfortable ergonomic position or if your working on the car you can still see the monitor easily by adjusting it. Then when you done for the day you can swing it out of the way. That what I do here in the Kitchen and for my Man Cave Setup. All my monitors are using large long swing arms now. The Stand that comes with the Monitors i just leave them in the box.
I agree and would love to do that but have limited space. If the space was dedicated strictly for pc stuff that is how I would do it but I also use it for my auto stuff.
@@DLMtechgarage IDK, you could still use the workspace as before. Only difference being you would have to shove the keyboard and mouse to the side when done working on PC stuff. And with the pegboard in 3 places, you could also situate the car tools on the old monitor wall, closer to the car and then have PC tools on the left and right side pegboard surrounding the monitors on the large wall. Definitely a lot of work to do it cut up the pegboard and remount it but ergonomics would be way better. On the other hand, Mr Samadolfo's idea would be way less work and you could still point the monitors directly from that large wall if they had longer and more articulate arms on them. Just would have to cough up the extra cash for the better swing arms. Money well spent toward not having neck troubles later in life.
What you want is called kwm switch.. or is it kvm. Anyway multiple outputs from single keyboard and mouse. And collecting multiple outputs into a single monitor. 4 inputs outputs should be plenty. Set-up looks good. You could get something likevl gamers nexus mod mat with cable doagrams and all sorts of useful graphics.. so that computers dont slide around on hard wood surface
Tempted to suggest a USB hub or something similar if you are mounting the PC up out of the way. Also, having a hub for "work in progress" systems might be good too. You know for your keyboard, mouse, & USB-drive w/ OS installation/ software tools. Sort of a 1 plug deployment set up. Using a hub might also let you hide more of those cables. With the cables I don't mind seeing them. but on a workbench cables should be easy to find but ALSO out of the way. If you don't use them they WILL get in the way. I mostly suggest having your bench peripherals on a hub because I can't tell you how many times i get ready to give back a clients PC and there is a drive or a Logitech wireless receiver stuck in the system.
Oh maybe you can get one of those hubs with the switches on them. 1x USB to ethernet, 1x OS disk & tools, and 2 for peripherals. That way you can "turn off" the network or USB drive with a button
I have found the Dell, Lenovo and HP mini PCs are very useful to have in my workspace, you can get a decent one, 8th gen and up or Ryzen 2 and 3 for $50-100, take up no room and are perfect for all of the "computer stuff" I need to do in the middle of working on things.
Man, I recently picked up 2 nice 22" Dell Monitors for $10 each from a thrift store. Tested both there and they were awesome. I get home and accidently drop one and crack the screen. i was super disappointed in myself. But still having 1 monitor for the full price of $20 still feels like a deal.
