@@troyweatherford2428 Exactly. How many of us have had the great debate, stay inside the bag, warm and cozy, but in agony, or make a quick run to a tree, in the freezing cold, for sweet relief?
I never saw these when I was in the USMC 1987-91 even in our cold weather training in Alaska we were issued crap gear. These look pretty sweet definitely the military has come a long way.
These days I think the only time they're issued is for bridgeport, mountain warfare training. When I went through it in 2018, they didn't issue them until 20 dudes got hypothermia and several nearly died. We still weren't able to use them a whole lot but when we did, it was amazing. The very moment you put it on, instant warmth.
We called them marshmallow suits in the army. Although, I never got issued the booties 😤. But man, I'm pretty sure I maxed out the performance of it in the Afghan mountains lol, it kept me alive though.
Used similar booties made by baffin through a full winter in the Utah high desert. They were the bomb but way to hot for sleeping with them on in a -30 bag. And they fit perfect into my insulated Neos overboots for running around camp at night
Your talking about the Level 7 of the PCU system for anyone searching for it. They are a bit different because different manufacturers made the different level throughout the years. I got a level7 Wildthings fit perfect then got a level 7 Halys (same exact thing) way too big.
@@axelasander9659 as a teenager my dad and I would go backpacking. We never had the high-speed gear, I wore wool pants from goodwill because we couldn't afford the expensive synthetics, slept in bargain sleeping bags. Yes, it can be done is it as comfy and nice as a 0* bag, that really is a 0* bag? Heck no, but it worked. I have some of my most vivid memories shivering in the mountains waiting for morning to come. Lol.
Yup you want layers when in the cold, my bro and I have some russian Gorkas and they work great here in Northern Idaho, sprayed some water repellent on them and made them even better.
ECWCS level 7 is super warm too, and a little bit cheaper if you can't afford the wild things gotten through a lot of -10 winters with them and they cut the wind chill right out
PERFECT!!! well almost. Got it booked marked, cause its a little pricey, but worth it. So when I get some funds saved, might buy a piece at the time. Also wished it came in more colors, and maybe some cam patterns would be nice. Great review Kit. Keep up the good work. This is definitely on my radar.
@@KitBadger That would be great. I searched the whole website, No multicam for USMC version of high loft. Looking forward to seeing if you can get a code. Would be great. Would probably buy today, hoping for multicam though.
@@KitBadger strange. I signed up for their news letter the day I commented on this video. I know this because I have never asked to be put on a news letter list. Never got an Email from them.
I've owned some wild things stuff over the decades - top quality! I wonder how they compare to the N-3B coat and F-1B pants. I have Vietnam era coat made with wool insulation (better than later issued stuff) and it's the warmest thing I have ever worn. Need to get the pants.
Brother, I am in Scottsdale Arizona where today July 6 it is 111 degrees outside (literally). This video is a form of psychological harassment! 😬🔥🤣🔥 Have you ever tried throwing a couple of hand warmers in your damp boots overnight to help dry them out? A friend of mine would put each boot in an ex large freezer bag with the warmers inside the boots. I’ve never tried that. Cold feet no bueno. 👍🏼
With the boots, are they something that you actually walk around in? Use them as a boot liners? over the boot? or take your boots off and put the happy boots over socks only? im trying to get an idea of how they are used. Thanks
I hike in all seasons. I don't have any of that overly expensive junk. Dress in layers. The temp changes constantly and if you go from a heavy jacket straight to a t-shirt, you will die. If you wear multiple layers then you can slowly shed or add layers throughout the day to keep your body temp more evenly regulated. Waiting till you get wet will give you hypothermia.
big oof, $800 usd for a lightweight shell some 330 cordura and a measly 1.2lbs of primaloft. thats not even enough primaloft to keep you warm in 30f in a primaloft quilt. No thanks, much better gear for cheaper out there.
Cool, I’m glad the internet came along and gave you a voice. I feel like there just aren’t enough opportunities for people to complain about the free content they watch these days...
Oh the times when it was 10 degrees at Camp Wilson and all the non grunts had happy suites on and laughed at us
Usually works like that. :)
Used this in Hokkaido, those little booties are perfect for those midnight potty breaks
Anyone who does know what this about, wait ten, twenty years, you will.
@@haroldellis9721 oh no I just mean that it was good for keeping my feet from freezing off when I had to sneak on over to use the head

Used these in Norway on my last deployment to the Arctic Circle and it was amazing

Nobody in the Army got booties. So jealous! But in general yeah the marshmallow suit is a life saver. Very comfortably warm in freezing temps.
rip to the person who has to remove this to go to the toilet in those conditions

you can pick these up fairly cheap on ebay in the sage green color that the army and air force used
@ToasterHead I clearly stated army and air force

But my Walmart 22 dollar sleeping bag is, just as good. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
I've slept outside for 3 years straight in Walmart gear and other budget options. It sucked but it worked.
“I understood that reference.”

I was issued the full suit while doing field ops in Norway and loved it wish I could have acquired one.
They change the game in cold weather...
Ill sell you mine
Tyler Simplot how much you askin
for 1000$ for the set i think ill stick to the 200$ for surplus ECWCS level 7 or L5 set from varstuleka
Just got these, I’ve been miserable in the cold hunting for the last time.

much better value than the 500 dollar hoodie. that would be perfect for sitting around our high desert camp at night with the fellas.

I love their hand warmer.

Don't forget the paste. Lots of kids like to eat paste.
And window cleaner.....need to stay hydrated you know😉
I need one of these suits for early season rafting trips up in N.Idaho/Washington. Cool stuff. Cheers Ivan.

That looks way better than our Air Force extreme cold weather gear.
But you get better chow halls. :)

Thx for the review, something new for me.. Take care bud..
Thanks buddy, you too.
Really appreciate your gear reviews/videos! Thanks for your work!

Nice shirt, Cube
This looks way better than the armys Marshmallow suit
The mickey mouse boots looked rad tho, c’mon you know it! #climb_to_glory
Managed to acquire one of these in woodland Marpat used to walk around lejeune and wear it to work everyday, best thing I ever tactically acquired
Definitely considering the purchase.
Game changer in the cold...
Looks pretty awesome

I miss my happy suit.
Should have kept it. :)
For this usecase I can recommend the atom sv from Arc’teryx. Its so nicely breathable but super light and fairly water resistant
Have you tried their stuff since they sold? Curious on quality.
Have used this happy suit in minus 40 F in alaska for many winters, wish I could find a replacement set for cheap as they are heavily used.

My ninja and bear suits are sufficient for keeping my body warm, but I might pick up a pair of those booties for my feet at the end of the day
