I attended EKU from 2002 through 2004, and remember passing that place every single weekend when I'd go home. I think it was open back then, but now that I think about it, that was 20 years ago now! Shit! Time flies!
LOL I used to do this stuff on YT I visited this place About 5 years ago. I had this on my channel (I Since shut it down) It got a decent amount of views. I use to pass it on my way to Indiana from here in SC. This place is much worse than when I was there last.Much less graffiti. It had all the glass and the only way in was through a back door. It had a pretty blown out up stairs where the sleeping rooms were upstairs. Even the checkout counter is gone! Looks like they gutted the place. Last time I was there there were beds in those sleeping rooms. I think it closed sometime around 2010-11.
Wow, you had a lot of abandoned places to explore in Madison County. That place has been abandoned for many, many years. I actually have always wondered what it looked like, thanks for going and seeing it 👍💯
I only ever passed this place going to and from Lexington, never stopped; kind of off the beaten path. Plus, there were/are better options in Richmond going south and Exit 104 (Athens) headed north. I remember Exxon signage in the late '90s and early '00s, but the canopy and price sign scream Marathon.
10 miles from where I live. I wish they would do something with that location. The old truck stop has essentially been left to rot. Not sure who even owns that property now. It was a magnet for lot lizards and drug dealers back in the day though. Yes, there was a convenience store inside. I used to go in here all the time when I was a college student in Richmond back in the mid 90's. Bought many a Playboy magazine in that place back in the day, but that's another story. The CB shop was located behind the truck stop in an old mobile home.
It was a Marathon Truck Stop, Exon also. It was also called Bills Truck Stop at one point. It was also a Union 76 Truck Stop. It was up for auction Sept 16, 2020. January 2023 was for rent at $20,000 per month for the ground.
I see that you have a Bucee's hat. Was at the Richmond, Ky location earlier today. They didn't have any of the red hats. But wow that place is huge. Great vid of this abandoned truck stop. There was one in E-town, but it got torn down a long time ago.
It was a decent truck stop back in the day. I used to go to the cb shop that was in a small trailer around back. The cb shop's name was g.i. Joe's and has since relocated to a building off exit 76
Graffiti "artists" and vandals are not part of our community. Anyone who does urbex or retail documenting and does that crap to these places deserves to be arrested and their title as an urbexer or UA-camr stripped. Thanks for always reminding us, Wallie!
It was really a great place back in the day. I used to visit and eat at the Huddle House fairly often. Your assessment of the place was pretty accurate. You were right on with the lounge room. The rooms upstairs and downstairs were available to rent for the truckers, etc. There was even a KOA behind the plaza in the 80s. The place continued to thrive through the 90s. I believe it finally closed around 2005. Anyway, enjoyed your video. I'm a local there. I live just down the road from the new Buc'ees you visited there. I enjoyed those videos as well. It was a little sad to see it deteriorate over the years and get trashed and vandalized like it did, but it was a going concern back in the day. Yes, many, many celebrities have been there, including Willie Nelson as you pondered. He's been there many times as well as many other country stars and other celebrities and sports stars, etc. Peace out!
Not that dead, the Card Trooper, DMV and Golden Leaves keep it… kind of alive? Not what it was, the cinema area they made into the mexican restaurant brings back memories
Great video Wallie! I never stopped there, but I remember passing by this on the interstate many times in the 70s and 80s. I remember the lot being full of trucks. The Huddle House was added much later. I think back in the 70s and 80s it had its own restaurant.
I remember that travel center. My uncle lives not too far from there. I don't remember it ever open. Several years ago, I made the mistake of turning in there because I was in emergency need of gas and it looked open. Lucky for the Loves down the street. As for Huddle House, I am not a fan and since none are near my house, I don't seek them out when I am near one.
Hey Wallie, I know it’s a long shot but this place has been abandoned for years now and I don’t know if you’ve done a video of it! General Shale Brick co in Fairdale, KY off 1020 near Bullitt county Jefferson line… it’s in very rough shape and mold probably everywhere so respirator might be necessary, heard a company might be buying the land so thought it’d be cool for you to check out sometime! Ps: sometimes they do have security up there because people do tend to ride around there on 4 wheelers and etc… next to the railroad tracks and there’s a building across from it that looks to be like a guard shack or something
I wish I would have gone inside of that one. I watched the videos. I did mine but only did a perimeter video. I didn't trust my gut instinct on going inside by myself.
I just noticed that one of the pieces of graffiti says "Union City". Union City is a section of Madison County which is the county that the Clay's Ferry Travel Center is located in. I live in Union City and I'm now wondering which ner do well from around here did that. I moved there from Delaware after my husband retired from the Air Force and he brought me back to his hometown. My husband was born and raised in Union City so he probably knows the parents of said ner do well.
It’s sad seeing so much vandalism & I don’t understand why people are so sick with the negative language. Those people need Jesus in there life. Thank you for sharing with us
Not only the fact that it's probably not safe to go on the roof but you also don't want to be spotted by somebody either last thing you need is the cops
It also be funny if you went you went into an abandoned place like this or a convenient store that had the ding for when the door opened and you opened or moved a door just to where that still dinged even being abandoned cause that would cat he off guard big time even startled me a little cause I'd be like ok I wasn't expecting that LOL. And finding abandoned places like that it let's you use your imagination on what it looked like and all the famous people that may have stopped by for what ever reason or stay for what ever reason you gotta wonder if any employees ever met any one famous
The ding happened when I opened the door at this gas station in Texas. Caught me off guard but I thought it was funny! ua-cam.com/video/Ls5A39iqYdo/v-deo.html
I can't blame you for not wanting to walk on the roof that building has been in disrepair for however many years it's risky to walk inside because of the risk of collapse
There is a video of this location in 2017 before it was cleaned up: ua-cam.com/video/gRy_D2cWF48/v-deo.html It apparently closed between 2007 and 2009.
What a dump lol good video Wallie but you honestly gotta be careful bro God knows what's hiding in these places not talking about just rodents bees ECT. Gotta worry about crazy bums or killers too man. I can only imagine what truckers would do in them hotel rooms hahaha
the problem is where it is there is nothing else around it. there are several other truck stops close with tons more around them too not to mention bucees being 10 mins down the road.
My husband said that his friend Crystal used to work at the Huddle House and his friend Bo used to work at the truck wash when they were in high school! I'm interested in the history of the interstate highway system and this place always piques my interest when I drive to Lexington.
Why do people trash places I get what you mean who could have walk threw if walls could talk anyway another good videos they never disappoint keep up the good work
there are abandoned buildings where i live and people cant leave them alone they are covered in graffiti to its such a shame that people cant leave empty buildings alone how are buyers gonna buildings if they are covered in shit and stuff
Clays Ferry Travel Plaza was busted for illegal gambling machines in February of 2005 and October of 2007. It was owned by Jerry Wayne Garland. Jerry Jr. thought it would have made a racetrack at one point and the lot is available to lease
Hey WallieB26 I get why make you being there known weather your alone or not makes total sense for you and the people hanging out for what ever reason, but it would also be hilarious if one of these time you said hello or is anyone there and someone actually spoke up cause as I would be saying hello or is anyone there I'd also be thinking what if someone actually responded back I'd be thinking ok what do I tell them cause I'd be think what if someone was there to harm or murder someone in particular or the first person who showed up to that location and they picked that location cause of the location and they came after me just for being there or something ( but that would be kinda funny to get a hello back or a I'm here like I wasn't expecting that LOL)
Loves is what finally got them. Everytime I stopped it was clean, and folks was friendly.
When you remember it being open?
@@TananBaboo like late 90's early 2000's

i was in the dojct academy during 02 and i stopped to piss there and get a pop at least 2 or 3 times.
This old truck stop is absolutely amazing thinking back to the days of how beautiful it probably actually was
It was probably _glorious._ The most beautiful truck stop in the state.
@@craigjensen6853 Now it's outright hideous, especially the graffiti!
i stopped at it back in the day to piss a few times when it was open.
It was beautiful! It closed up in the early 2000s. It was really a busy place in its day.

Yep! Pass it up going to Fayette everyday!
Me too
Huddle house food is awesome
Awesome Video Wallie and Kayla
I have to say that place is well ventilated......lol...enjoyed the video
Awesome wallie
Love these videos
Love these videos!
Wow awesome video
With both the looks of the building and high sign, this was built as a 76 Auto/Truck Plaza, looks like it was an Exxon when it closed.
The "Clays Ferry Travel Center" signage on the building screams Exxon, however the canopies were definitely Marathon.
@@RammerSTi You are correct the canopies does scream Marathon.
After looking at the place on Maps, this place was last Marathon as of 2007.
I guess it went from 76 to Exxon and closed as Marathon.

iirc the owner ended up in some shit and its all tied up.
Man it would be nice to go back to those days and times! Today’s world sucks!
Nice's 😘😍 i love your new video
In the back used to be truck wash. It was a truck stop and restaurant and cb shop
Wow, WallieB26 what a totally awesome and cool abandoned truck stop video!! Really enjoyed your video!
thanks for sharing wallie This was a neat find. Creepy, but neat

Awesome Wallie thanks for sharing, the abandoned truck stop, it's like truck stops places are going away no long having them, they get abandoned.
Cool place
Looking at the gas station part and facade of the convenience store it used to had an Exxon at some point if I’m not mistaken.
I see that you have a Bucee's hat. Was at the Richmond, Ky location earlier today. They didn't have any of the red hats. But wow that place is huge. Great vid of this abandoned truck stop. There was one in E-town, but it got torn down a long time ago.
The gas there is ten cent cheaper, too! God bless our bit of Texas here in Kentucky!
I ate lunch at that huddle house many times back when I worked construction in the nearby boones trace
also we need a 2022 update at the masslion k-mart
That was really unique 👍👌
Looks like a place where the truckers could pick up a "Lot Lizard" or two, back in those days! 😖
That was nice of you to worry about bothering the birds
It was a decent truck stop back in the day. I used to go to the cb shop that was in a small trailer around back. The cb shop's name was g.i. Joe's and has since relocated to a building off exit 76
This was a neat find. Creepy, but neat. Someone has to be keeping an eye on the property, this would be an ideal place for squatters.
Nice wallie 😃

I completely agree. I just do video and take photos. That's it. And I leave the places the exact way I found them.

Wow they cleaned it up! Did you film the Richmond Mall? It’s a dead one.
Not that dead, the Card Trooper, DMV and Golden Leaves keep it… kind of alive?
Not what it was, the cinema area they made into the mexican restaurant brings back memories
The room you were saying was a "lounge" was the truckers chapel room.

Definitely a cool place. With it being cinder block it will withstand the elements better. Maybe someone will redo it.
Interesting
i live 30 mins from there
I ate there many times running between Lexington and Richmond in the 90's parting never met anyone real famous
There was an abandoned truck stop on 90 heading towards splash lagoon from Ohio

That’s by I-75 going to Lexington KY and you got that buckies hat at the new one in Richmond
I bought the Buc-ee's hat last year at the Fort Worth, TX location actually!
Pretty unique place to explore! Despite the vulgar graffiti, of course.
13:02 I like how someone drawed an among us character on the wall on the left side lmafo
Government watching this like approved😁👍
Nice hat
The Graffiti Is Very Funny At Clays Ferry Travel Center.
There's a burger King in spruce pine NC abandon
I am surprised how debris free the floors are given how gutted the place is.
it actually looks like someone cleaned it up from last video i saw about it. it had all kinds of junk everywhere in floors then.
What did you had to blur out
A pretty bad word. It was really bad.
This place is in better shape than the truck stop in North Lima, Ohio! 🤢🤮
