Comment by Carmencita: It is a beautiful island, gorgeous scenery if you drive to other towns; the ignorance about Puerto Rico is still prevalent. People think it is a very poor island, like Haiti. Well, it probably is poor in a way, but people there certainly live very well. Old San Juan is full of history and pretty architecture, Condado was a high-class neighborhood with beautiful houses, some of them are still standing, but many were converted into businesses, others were demolished, sadly, to build hotels, but it is still a pretty area.

I'm planning a trip in late and it seems that splitting my trip between old San Juan and a resort would be a good idea. Old San Juan seems like a place I can get local food and culture vs isle Verde and condado. Do you agree? I know renting a car would help me see PR better but I don't feel comfortable driving and don't want to risk traffic violations.
We have stayed in Condado many times - stay in La Concha or the Marriott and never got a car. Taxi from airport to hotel and Old San Juan. We don’t feel comfortable driving around there, either. Isla Verde is also very nice - really close to airport and plenty of restaurants to walk to.
I hope you kept walking towards the bridge at the end of the video. There is a private beach off to the right, it's protected by rocks hands down one of the best in that area. Their are definitely better one's but for the touristy area it is very good. I was born and raised on the south coast and miss it very much but you definitely brought me back some memories with this video :)
Condado is an upscale, fancy ocean front resort strip, a little Miami type vibe. Beautiful beach 🏝BUT not safe for swimming in SOME areas there. The waves break close to shore. There are warning signs up . Basically saying swim at your own risk. So KEEP children from going in too deep. Isla Verde is similar, a resort strip too. Both areas🏖 (Condado/ Isla Verde) attract tourist mostly because, it is close to airport, beaches, pedestrian oriented, everthing is within walking distance. Strange zoning here. Small business unit, giant apartment, side by side
PR might be poorer than the states but if you compare PR to the rest of latin America you’ll see the difference.
PR is poor because of greedy Congress. Starting with Charles Herbert Allen who wired Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 entire sugarcane economy 💰which is Domino Sugar today.
Condado is a façade for tourists. Drive 20-30 minutes out and you'll see the harsh reality many Puerto Ricans live.
@@Mrraugutactually there doing well , go to Cuba , it's horrible, Puerto Rico has advanced and much more will be done to improve...Ponce next big city to be built for tourist
@alfredolopez4092 Of course is better compared to Cuba and other parts of Latin America, but there's still a lot of people who live in poverty all over the island in a polar opposite of what you see in the tourist areas.
@@Mrraugutpoverty all over the world ,come to New York , san Francisco where all u see is tents ...
It's good if you like a place with no hot chicks, horrible food, paying twice as much for things, or if you like people acting racist towards you and charging you for entry fees they don't charge the locals. Go to the west side and it's even better for that! If you want the best of their food order the mofongo!!!! That with a side salad haha! The lettuce will be extra slimey!
Why wouldn’t San Juan be a nice place, puertorico is the island of enchantment, a majestic place
Y el Jíbaro dice Ok !!!
Pinky's is the best place for a good breakfast & price!!!!
Beautiful
All day
3:55 American citizens?.... America is a continent ... USA is country and Puerto Ricans are US citizens, remember the Caribbean is part of North America .... thanks for the video I love my island
Puerto Rico es expensive as F. It has the highest sales tax among US territories. The US Supreme Court said that we are US citizen but Puerto Rico is foreign in a domestic sense. 🤷🏻♂️

You didn't describe as modern and luxurious
That day was the lgbtq parade I think but it's also a gay friendly area.
Smh
Just say PR
