@@thatdamnguy9566 I regularly use mine with fuzz pedal and it sounds massive , I mostly play rock .It`s a great pedal guitar because it doesn`t hit the front end of a tube amp too hard so your pedal tones sound clear without muddiness and that pretty much makes these guitars versatile for any style, assuming you`re using pedals. The clean tones are beautiful ,especially with delays.
@@leadbelly1495 On a 24 scale guitar like the duo sonic I would recommend 10 gauge strings like Ernie Balls ,on a 25 1/2 scale guitar like a tele or strat you could could go either 9s or 10s depending on your comfort level. I hope that helps
Watching John Bollinger on my work breaks has gotten me through many a case of COVID-19 blues, even as both of our hairstyles have gone to hell over the these many months. Thank you, friend John!
Thanks for the great demo. Looks like an awesome guitar. I always preferred the Rosewood fretboard on the most of the vintage Fender duo sonics, but otherwise I love the looks and sound of this new one.
John Bolingbrook is a national treasure, I’ve never heard you play something that wasn’t cool! Would Love to come to Nashville when all this COVID stuff is over and hear you play with a band, keep on picking my brother!
I am trying to decide between this one and Yamaha Revstar with P-90. What would you say? I already got mexican Fender Strat :). I like a little dirty saturated sound edge of breakup and melodic clean tones :). Thank you for your reply in advance.
I wish you had a demo room with decent acoustics, all your areas have reflective sounds and everything is bouncing off the walls. A couple of blankets on the walls and a hunk of carpet would make a world of difference here. As always you are the man and we will stick with you. Be well in Nashville, it's a dangerous place these days.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm working on it. I just moved into my studio room, big rug, walls of amps with grill clothes soaking up the sound. It should be better. I mic'ed this one with 57 instead of using the phone mic. Sounds really dry to me, so I may wet it down next time.
You should check out 2011 Squier Classic Vibe Duo Sonic, some of them still around. I've got mine for years, changed pickups for japanese 65 reissue mustang and later sold it for 1964 mahogany body Duo Sonic which is extremely rare. Despite I sold it, I could say 2011 Squier Classic Vibe Dio Sonic is very very good guitar. Once you play it, you won't regret. Songwriters guitar.
I expect a Vintera Duo-Sonic next year since it's the only model missing in that line, which would have vintage tuners. Personally I like the player series having "modern" hardware.
@@jdw9260 ended up playing a vintera tele deluxe at the store and walked out with that one. Have been playing it for the past two years and it has been great.
@@Frewster Probably, but I think even compared to a strats bridge pickup this thing sounded a little less bright. I'm a treble junky though and maybe it's just the way John eq'd this particular axe. I do think it's a badass guitar. I'd probably just swap the pickups for something a little more jangly.
They're actually speced different , from the original, to every time they've re released them. It has the distinction of being the most variable design.
Hey John, great demo! My first guitar was a '64 Duo Sonic II and I loved it (wish I still had it). One of my favorite things about the Duo Sonic was the pick up sliders. You could select one or the other pickup -- or both in phase or a wonderfully quacky out of phase (better that the second and fourth positions on a Strat). Does the three way switch on this new Duo Sonic eliminate that wonderful quork?
Terrible lighting. Looks like you're lit by a single bulb from above, lots of facial shadows. Did you record this in your closet? Guitar sounds fine, though. Still overpriced for what it is.

Thanks for sharing! I love Duo Sonic!
I own 9 american made fenders , I bought two of these Duo Sonics and now they have become my go to guitars ,I absolutely love them.
I’ve been thinking about buying one of these, would you you say their good for like hard rock or metal?

How do you play hard rock on these i have an orange amp
And I don’t have a pedal pls help
Thank you so much for showing how great these guitars are and for not playing bloody nirvana for the whole review.
That was a Mustang.
@@RobertNolan eveytime anyone picks up a duo sonic or mustang it usually ends up with some nirvana crap being blasted out and this guy didn't do it.
@Phil Dale i agree I'm glad he didn't play Nirvana too. He must not be a big fan of that crap otherwise he would’ve played it on his duo sonic.
What're you talking about? Literally every review of this guitar i've seen they've played Jazz.
@@poser9420 jazz? on a mustang or duo what are you talking about

Thanks Dan. Play on, amigo.
Hey John, Thanks for this and all you do. It really helps, man. Rock on.
So glad Fender finally brought back the original Duo-Sonic design and metal pick guard. I had a 1994 Duo-Sonic which I loved
Thanks for the great demo. Looks like an awesome guitar. I always preferred the Rosewood fretboard on the most of the vintage Fender duo sonics, but otherwise I love the looks and sound of this new one.
I do love the Desert Sand/ Gold combo..
Nice guitar. I found an old 1958 Duo Sonic in a pawn shop about 20 years ago. It was a great little guitar.
Yes, crazy times!! Stay safe and God bless!!!
Your playing when you showed the bridge pickup off later in the video is some sweet jammin’!!!
thank you
Now that is a perfect guitar
I had a ‘61 Sunburst Duo Sonic....sold it to Rudy from NYC at NC guitar show. Still regret letting it go.
Damn, John! Lookin' relaxed! Alright!
4:32 I’m stealing that move, good sir.
John Bolingbrook is a national treasure, I’ve never heard you play something that wasn’t cool! Would

Damn autocorrect! Was supposed to say Bollinger
Thanks John. I'll see you on the other side of it. Play on, amigo
Sorry but can we acknowledge the multiple things that happened around 00:43. Mans a flawless player.
I like the Duo-Sonic SS, but the Duo-Sonic HS comes in Sienna Sunburst; much more attractive than the Desert Sand, IMHO.
I love how John always looks like he just woke up with a guitar in his hands 😂🤘🏻
Botox?
Love the shirt
Ordered this gittar myself right now.....awreety,awrighty hey okaaay......
Regarding your comment that nothing says Strat more than Sweet Home Alabama. You Got That Right! 😎
Cool! Nice pickin’ too!
Sweet!! slide playing and riffage to go along with it.
Sick playing!
The originals are very nice too.

@@cornucopia8591 that sounds lovely!
I’m looking for my next 10 year guitar and am torn between the mustang and one of these duo Sonics. They each look and sound so great.
What did you go for? In the same position

@@nickhem12 Thanks for the reply man. They are so versatile, dunno what it is but keep resisting the Tele
Kinda want one
Great sound and playing! Awesome video. Isn’t a Duo Sonic a Mustang without the vibrato arm?
Same body. But the mustang is known for its switches for changing the pickups and most importantly putting them out of phase
Cool guitar!!!
As a fellow clinical depressive, I hope you're doing well. If not, hang in there. "What a difference a day makes, just 24 little hours."
all cool
Many diff basic changes on this design.Any feel or preferences you might have, they made one at some point.
Awesome! Sweet playing John 😎 Is it neck heavy? Cheers...
Very, light.
See that right brain full of activity?
I love it but to me the pickups lack a certain top end that I'm used to from my Teles. Excellent playing as always.
There aren't any other guitars with that three saddle ashtray bridge, that's my guess why :')

nice
They are awesome but just seems like a new name on the regular Duo Sonic with different colors. I miss mine.

The jumped off train with amp n gueetar is real, hoboishly speaking.
Pardon Mr. Bohlinger, but you my good sir, look a bit shabby. You can play mean slide tho...
Agreed. John looks like he just woke up from a three day drunk.
Toca pra caralho
The switch is rotated 90 degrees from where it should be. It should go front to back not top to bottom. Right? Easy mod but still.
Need to say what pedals and amp you're playing through!
Keely Red Dirt, MXR Drive, Boss DD7 EX Oceans 11,
What is the tuning for a slide? What would the tuning be for my strat HHS SLIDE?
Standard tuning
Standard

What is a "manDOHlin"???
He actually said "Mandola" , it's a kind of larger mandolin
Sounds kinda Little Feat-ish.....coincidentally my fave band.......
Looks Mustang - But Sounds Very Srat-y
which amp and mic
1966 Deluxe, SM57
Not so good stock. Switches die before long. But the wood is pretty good so upgrade the pickups and electronics and you've got a little monster!
no longer $600 lol
once you go duo sonic you dont go for the strat as much
Not a very catchy saying, but it's 100% accurate.
lol it looks like a toy, but I like it.
John, comb your hair! You look like you just got out of bed after a rough night. Guitar and your playing does sound great, though.
It's amazing what happens when you don't leave your house for a week.
I would need $20k of transplants to get hair like that

Looks cheap. Like a toy. Razor thin and sounds really thin.
