    I find it interesting how Jeroen Tel just saw the four pulse widths on the Nes, and yet did pulse wave modulation as if he was working with the c64 that had thousands of pulse widths.

    Oh HELL yeah! I’ve been waiting for this one!
    I really thought the percussion was a sample! Wow...! And at one point that triangle is so low it’s almost a line hahaha! Love it❤️

    99% of NES tracks i've heared were either super basic or sounded the same in terms of font. it really takes a c64 composer to get creative on the A203.
    great work jeroen!

    I'm really fond of the lonely, isolated feel of this track. Jeroen Tel can really nail that melancholic mood.

      Thanks, Combine_Kegan. =) I'm that kind a guy... I swear I can make compose music that makes people cry their eyes out... haha.

      Jeroen can either make music that gives you an immediate eargasm, or give you an immediate eargasm that makes you cry your eyes out.

      @@JeroenTel So why did you give the NES version of Overlord a completely different soundtrack from its C64/Amiga/DOS versions?

    This was my introduction to Jeroen's work. And godammit, I absolutely love the guy for this track alone. His other work is gold, but to pull this off on the NES hardware? Holy crap!
    Kudos to you, Mr. Tel!!!

      @@JeroenTel Mr.Jeroen, slightly unrelated, but why is it that you didn't use the dpcm channel on the nes a whole lot? Was it due to space constraints?

      Probably yes,and he wasn't the only one.
      The Follin Brothers are other example of sample less OSTs.
      It consumed tons of space so it was better to use the triangle wave channel.

    One of the first games I used to watch my late father play, late at night as a small child.. that was 25 years ago. This is very endearing. A fond memory, this tune. Thank you!

    This is a bit random, but have you all ever realized that the RP2A03's Triangle wave looks like whoever drew it was drunk?

    • @quadpad_music
      @quadpad_music 5 років тому +18

      Nice way to put it. That's because it's generated with 4 bits, that is, 16 volume steps. Count them. This is what makes it sound "raspier" than other system's triangle waves, and that's why it's so exceptionally useful for bass.

    • @exoticcar5482
      @exoticcar5482 5 років тому +13

      @@quadpad_music I've noticed this too. The NES's triangle wave seems to have a secondary high pitched frequency over the main frequency wave. I just wonder if it was a glitch or if Nintendo did that intentionally

    • @forple8930
      @forple8930 4 роки тому +12

      @@exoticcar5482 It's a byproduct of the steps put on the triangle. It creates odd overtones, and this one song specifically uses that to it's maximum.

      @gamezvideos2 4 роки тому +9

      @@quadpad_music I think he means that the triangle wave is a bit "humpback", it's because of the high-pass filter, that also affects the square waves, that look like a chopped off sawtooth wave.
