I remember hearing that sound when I was a kid and had no clue what it was. This was probably the most satisfying thing to finally learn. thank you
Snowy ikr
Wow
must feel good
Nice bait
Yes, me too. It was my favorite level when I was a kid! That's why I remembered that sound.
He’s just T-posing... *MENACINGLY*
I love the JoJo's Reference
Roar
It’s actually the lesser known D-pose
If someone t-poses on you but you never see them is it actually menacing?
lol XD
Dry Bones is there to tell the developers how high the death barriers should reach.
They probably placed a barrier, moved dry bones for the next one and tested if they worked dropping him and seeing him explode.
Aww thats not the fun answer
i think the weirdest part of this is that the dry bones being a more spooky character found in castle levels and ghost levels is found in such a happy level like starshine beach. it may be leftovers from a previous design idea for the level. anyway, at the end of the video you said "is it possible to defeat or save the mystery dry bones". he has gone through enough death, just give him a break.
"Defeat or *save* the Mystery Dry Bones." Save is an option.
JUST LET HIM ENJOY SOME BEACH TIME GOD DAMMIT!
oh its you! why dont you have more likes you were mentioned in the video!
It might have been a joke that a koopa ttoopa tried to get a sun tan and his skin burnt off

"The mystery goomba's long lost cousin"
All I'm thinking about now is that somewhere along the way, a goomba and a dry bones decided to hook up and have a kid.
Or at least a goomba and a Koopa Troopa. Then the koopa dies and becomes dry.
Theoretically, Our long lost cousins are fish because we have a common ancestor, the mystery goomba and the mystery drybones could've descended from the mystery last common ancestor.
@@ImperialDrylander mystery fish, mystery fish

why? XD
Dry Bones was actually my favorite character of all time growing up. When I was much younger I actually did hear the sound slightly and thought "Was that a Dry Bones?" And I spent quite awhile trying to find it. Poor young me. But hey, now I know that the Dry Bones was now found and will forever be the god of t posing.
Mystery Goomba
Mystery Coin(s)
Mystery Dry Bones
What's next? Mystery Bowser?
Mr.G ameguide yup,in Mario 1 out of bounds in a castle

Mystery Dungeon.
Mystery pirate ship.
That actually is a thing
There is now a miniature model of bowser inside Marios model in super Mario odyssey 😆
It actually felt really good to see this Dry Bones alive on the beach, that was very nice of you to do.
It may have melted my heart a bit, seeing the lil monster chasing Luigi :)
Theory: Dry Bones is actually Koops' Dad in TTYD?
You're right to question whether or not that's a theory, as it's more of a hypothesis.
Emm Bee Sea ttyd? What’s that
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Ominous Blast your childhood wasn’t fun if you never played Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door
Johnjohnbro 06 bro you should play the rom at least. You can buy a Wii off the street for like $20 (on OfferUp) and mod it and you can then enjoy those amazing nostalgia games we grew up with.
Just let him be, he's T-posing it's impossible for him to die, the sound is probably just him teleporting.

I think the lore is that it was a regular koopa that sunbathed for too long and all his skin peeled off, and then he was cast into the void or something who knows
when SM64 appeared on screen I knew it was the Mystery Goomba XD
Bowser: DryBones, I need you for a job.
DryBones: Finally!! I get to have a cool job!! So... Whats my job?
Bowser: Stand by the death plain.
DryBones: *insert am i a joke to you meme*

And that's how Dry Bones somehow survived World of Light. Probably.

God I love the beach -episode- level
Yeah, especially when Dry Bones scared off all the anime girls with his T-pose.
???
PK Lucas Actually, it is a reference to beach episodes in anime (or in other words, an excuse to show all the females in bikinis)

Here’s what I want to know: is the mystery goomba in the DS version of 64? His trio brothers are there, so is he still there as well?
Yeah I want to know too, I have the DS version as well
Dry Bones is actually Sans from Steven Universe.
Boo is supposed to be Papyrus from Earthbound.
And Gomba is Lancer from MLP
Not just gomba, the mystery goomba
And the sunshine boo is pichu from fnaf
Lyigi is fortnite from RWBY
“Pannenkook”. I love this amalgamation of the English and Dutch pronunciation.
Have you ever heard Nathaniel Bandy pronounce it? That was even funnier than Swanky's pronunciation.

1:37 Poor Goomba never had a chance at life. He gets spawned in only to instantly fall into the void as soon as he appears and can't do anything about it
That’s cool! This was my first ever 3D Mario game, and I remember vividly that once when I was playing I heard an enemy die, and I couldn’t find out why for the life of me! Now I know!
Nobody:
Dry bones: “change da world. My final message, goodbye.”
Alright, what's the reference?
I SAW THAT GOOMBA WHEN I WAS A KID. I spent so much time making them run off the edge of the map trying to make more of him lol
If Jevil can do anything, can he kill the impossible dry bones?
I guess, but can he fix the undertale/deltarune fandom?
@@jaxoncarter2electricboogal921 he's not THAT powerful
Stop

Of course. He shatters souls like no man’s business.
Gamer Bro
When Jevil says he can do anything, that doesn’t count. That act is far beyond the power of any deity. There are two sides to the fandom. The normal side, people like me, and hopefully you guys (if you are fans of the game), and the toxic side, the side that is broken, and will never be fixed. Not even Jevil can do that. But with this act not included, he can do anything.
0:05 “The Soup Mario Galaxy Series-“
His dominance would of reigned supreme, so they had to contain him.
He’s just there...T-Posing Menacingly!
Why is it out of bounds? 5:15 That’s what it was 6:04 Yep..
My guess on this is that the dry bones was being used to test the death plains around the level to make sure a player didn't fall off and become soft locked and was just never removed
This blew my mind! Until now, I had no idea that both the mystery goomba and dry bones existed until now... If only there was a way in-game to save the poor things!
Game dev: "You're already dead"
Dry Bones: "NANI!?"
" P A N N E N K O O K "
Nice job, Swanky.
Dutch language nerd here: that's actually almost how it's supposed to be pronounced! Pannenkoek is the Dutch word for 'pancake' and it's pronounced "pan-" (sounds more like 'pun' than the English word 'pan') "-nen-" (pronounced the same in English) "-koek" (sounds like 'cook').
It was actually a Koopa, but because it’s been so long for it to be documented, it died and became a Dry Bones
Idk
0:30 You got that from Watchmen
Since its a beach/sea level, maybe earlier in development it was pirate-themed or there was a pirate-themed section somewhere. That would explain why a dry bones would be present. Its the kind of enemy that would be guarding long-lost pirate loot inside a dark cave hidden away somewhere.
My Headcanon:
This Dry Bones was the scorched Koopa from the Mario Movie. And he was banished to this place, because Bowser thinks he was the one who jinxed his plan to defeat Mario.
Thank you for saving that precious boy
I love Dry Bones but why is the spooky boy put in the death void when he already dead owo''
"It's a mystery Dry Bones!"
"Yeah...what about it?"
"IT USED TO BE A MYSTERY KOOPA!!!"
3:46 “ememy”
He wanted to go to the beach and white his bones, but he tripped and fell into the void, he's happy you saved him.
I’m glad this mystery didn’t go dry.
I'm really happy that you did move the Drybone away in the end ! ^w^
he t-posed so hard that he ended up in an endless loop of death
_Finally finished. That level had way too many Dry Bones in it. Okay, what's next?_
_How about that nice beach level? You sound like you need a break._
_Cool, I can do that._
_Did you just place another Dry Bones?_
_Force of habit, I guess._
_You know what? Nobody's even gonna notice that, so don't worry about it._
0:35 , "and honestly, being able to share this is super exciting". That shape though...
Player: * enters stage *
Dry bones: My time has come
He is still suffering now😥
He’s just asserting dominance over the death planes.
The amount of hidden things in old Mario games that I've played that I mever noticed for all these years is honestly crazy!
My cousin reappeared...
WHY DID HE CHOOSE A BEACH FROM BETWEEN ALL PLACES TO STAY?
I told him that the locals there would kick him out.
And I’m too far to help him.
Thanks for at least helping him from that void.
@@Romans10.9-13 it’s ok it was his fault I mean they did warn us from coming there because one of my other cousins stole something idk what was it they never showed me but they did warn us seems like he didn’t listen to that
Nintendo developers: * forget to remove a Dry Bones *
SwankyBox: that’s a good 6 minutes of content there.
Basically, the hidden goomba in super mario 64.
I had no idea there was a level editor for this game, I really want to mess around with it
"pannenkOOk"
us pannenkoeks and pannenkeoks have to put aside our pronunciation differences to fight the new pannenkOOk
Player: *enters galaxy*
Dry bones: Time to de-exist
Well I never knew my favorite Mario character got such special treatment
My theory, to explain the event realistically and explain why the dry bones dies is that right before Mario/Luigi enters the level, the dry bones accidentally falls off the stage right as Mario/Luigi flies in. A tragic ending for the skelebone, but a way to explain it.
And, when you save him, Mario/Luigi comes in _before_ the accident happens, and the skelebone gets distracted by them, preventing his demise.
It's so cool that now when I play that level I'll always think of the dry bones that just died
Can you defeat the mystery dry bones
Me: NO. It’s in a death line and defeats himself on frame 1.
2:42 Oh no, it is asserting its dominance.
Finally someone pronounced "pannenkoek" right. It means pancake in Dutch
find things that you never saw in your favorite games of childhood brings you the nostalgia, very cool.
The dry bones of infinite power by his T-pose stance. The stance makes his power unlimited.
Hmm it could be possible that the Starshine Beach level took a dark turn? Just an assumption, or it could be possible that they used the Dry Bones for testing purposes? Who knows really, only the ones who worked on Super Mario Galaxy 2 know..
5:31 its like a space document about a distant exploding galaxy
So, that Dry Bones is a reality warper and was behind all of the time?.
Fun fact: for some reason, in SMG1, if you go to Megaleg's planet using the triple jump exploit, then beat megaleg, then use the first person camera to look up in a certain part of sky, (it's usually better to stay on top of Megaleg for this), you will find the meteor shower planet with the black hole and star chips just kinda existing. Pretty wierd, as also you can see the planet you came from in a different area of sky. If you see it, tell me! I hope you find it!
My question is how or why Nintendo put the dry bones there to begin with(the deal with the mystery goomba was just an accident because there was not enough space on the platform it spawns on)
You wanna know why it's a dry bones?
It was a koopa but the koopa died from dehydration as a result of being out of bounds so God used a new way to get rid of him for good since the first cause isn't possible anymore.
Could you possibly go to the star with yoshi and infinite flutter jump around to the back without loading in the dry bones to see the dry bones as it dies??
Maybe, We could not see it because when we start the level, as he is in the air, he falls of.
i think the reason they had that dry bones there, was to help the developers see visually where the death barrier is while building the level
It was originally a Koopa, but a decade of death changed it. The more you know.
(It's already dead tho)
Its not dead
So... Mystery Goomba 2.0?
Mayhaps the level used to be one of those ghost house levels, but was changed, and the dry bones was left out. Or maybe it was added on accident, and the developers never caught on.
Legend has it that the dry bones was ones a koopa going on a vacation where he got stuck in a infinity death loop slowly and painfully taking his flesh away he was more then happy when someone freed him form this loop and put it on a nice beach
But before we kill that dry bone ourselves we need to talk about parallel universes
Gg with the pronunciation of Pannenkoek :D, Great video!
you just find the neatest things Swanky love the new uploads on both channels they have been great!
He is just stabling his balance by T-Posing
*DO MORE PLEASE, I LIKE FINDING STUFF LIKE THIS THAT I DIDNT KNOW!*
I realised that the tiny random disappearing planet from SpinDig is used later in the game, after beating Bouldergeist in Boss Blitz. Now why it’s there is still a mystery, but at least we know where the asset was used in game.
R.I.P Luigi because of the black hole LOL
You know when i was a kid and i heard a dry bones exploding i tried for weeks trying to find where this dry bones was thanks man for sharing this it answered my long lost question
This is why Dry Bones never appeared in World of Light at all.
I mean, have YOU seen a Dry Bones spirit anywhere?

Poor guy, well at least you gave him a little time on the beach.
Schrödinger's cat is nothing compared to this t-posing legend
Part of me wants to reset this world constantly so dry bones dies repeatedly
I’ll have to boot up the level again, but I’m pretty sure there’s a fire flower in the level somewhere. I could be wrong though. But, if I’m right, I’m pretty sure there was a glitch during an early version of the game where you could _move_ fire flowers by doing a fairly complicated line of movements to get it to spawn on top of the player instead of it’s dedicated spawn spot, thus allowing you to permanently have the effect. If you were able to, I guess you could throw a fireball at the perfect time and place and hit the drybones the exact frame it spawns. It’s all based on assumption and you’d have to have the right version of the game to perform the glitch in talking about and you’d also have to be frame perfect, but in theory it’s possible if I’m correct about it all.
