I appreciate you trying the aeration tool on a clay based soil. I guess the last test is on heavy clay, which I think most manual tools will not work on generally? Especially if wet. I can watch your channel for hours and believe me I have done so in the past.
Lovely job, Shane the spreader let too much of that soil out it's worked well in the past with the soil/compost you used. Fingers crossed we don't get that snow they keep going on about, I live down south so hopefully not Love the vids as always and I smashed that like button for ya
Thank you!😊🙏 yeah I agree. I was taken aback. The topdressing I used from "field compost" was excellent, but very fine. If I carry on like this I'll run out of my supply in super fast time. So looks like I prob will have to use the other soil spreader I've got which is adjustable.. but slower in use
Shaun, excellent as ever and you make it look so easy! Please can you do a return video to show how it look after. Also i am still available as a old YTS lol.
Informative video …thanks Shaun … one thought is to have the obvious follow up showing how well your hard work produced a renovation of high standard . In short before and after pics ! In my case I have a newly turfed lawn on a new build . I have tried the drill/ auger method but as I have wet clay base the attempt to remove cores of sodden clay with a smidgeon of hop soil under the turf sods has proved to be a waste of time ….feels like I am walking on a water bed at the moment …any ideas ?
Hi Russell, I will call back to this job at some point for a follow up. Sounds like you may need a professional drainage firm in to install French drain types of drainage (something I've never done unfortunately). Only things I can suggest are finding the worst spot and digging down as deep as possible and trying to install a soakaway. A customer of mine used a petrol piston hole borer and filled the hole with a mix of pebbles, topsoil and then put the turf back. It helped a lot. If you dont want to go to that extreme keep using an auger and aerate.. get some soil conditioner down.. seaweed.. humic acid.. and some gypsum but be aware itll take months for improvement. Even a sprinkling of charcoal can help
Great job mate, fantastic prep and whole process looks brilliant ! Sure they will be very happy people in 4-6 weeks! Some hit with the dressing though mate ! Hope it never put you out of pocket too much 👍🏼🌱
@@LawnRight I’m not surprised !😅. Top soil I’m guessing it would be spot on.. that FC looks great. The delivery fee for up my way is extortionate ! Great vids mate 💪🏽
Another great video Shaun - many thanks for posting it. Hopefully, lawn season can properly get going now. That top dressing looked very fine - a bag per strip! What was it composed of? With sand? You have mentioned using compost too to dress? Many thanks again
I seen a guy on a uS you tube chanel called Yard brah using an amazing manual aerator it was like a wheel attached to a metal pole that you push along and the 12” wheel goes very quickly even though the video was speeded up
Hi bud! New to the channel and a new subscriber. Any tips to look after a lawn with two dogs doing their business on it every day? I live in the UK just in case it makes a difference. Thanks bud!
Hi lance.. few options.. try ketchup in their dinner..or they dog rocks in water bowl..both work for some dogs but not all.. otherwise water heavily when you see them wee.. otherwise..grow the same turf in pots.. can easily transplant ro lawn as needed... only other option is to fence it off.. or train them to go in one spot
Great job! Would the landzie lawn level do an equally good job of spreading that fine compost instead of the landscaping rake i think you might have used? Also to press down the seed instead of a roller which I don’t have? Keep the great content coming!
Hi lawn lures do work well but in my opinion not in bare soil as they move the seeds out of position.. if you're overseeding an established lawn then they work brilliant and I normally use one. Thanks 😊
Hi Tom.. sounds roundup is used only if needed.. as in lots of hard to kill weeds or we want a whole new grass species. So if you did want to do that I used roundup pro 360.. thanks
Shaun, I’m new to lawn care and I find your videos very helpful. Can you tell me how many bags of peat moss I would need to cover 1,000 sq feet of a lawn using the lanzie spreader.. roughly..
Hi Francis, thanks! So I assume its around 93 sq metres. Depends how thickly its applied. My old adjustable spreader can get around 12 sq metres. So 10 to 12 bags at 40 litres a bag should be enough.. but .. see how one bag goes.. when I've user multipurpose compost most goes through but there will be twigs left over and bits of thick compost. Anyway that's a rough guide for you.. i reckon about 12 40 litre bags
Great video Shaun. I did similar on Friday. Thought it might be it a bit early but feel better that you have overseeded at same time. I have the Landzie. I used top soil on but can you put compost on to top dress as I have some spare as I want to do the front soon and have no top soil left. How often should I water. Thanks again.
Hi yes absolutely to the topsoil or compost. I've used both with good results. I'm mostly confident in the timing. Any frosts are usually quite mild and short lived now, and the ground is still soft. 😊👍 as for watering at the minute once or twice a day should be fine as we still get a dew in the mornings... if we get the planned heatwave I'd go to 3 times a day.. main point is to try and avoid it drying out..but having a mist setting so it falls gently
Sean, I scarified the lawn this weekend and had significantly less thatch thank last year. The only difference I can think of is that we now have a robotic mower and the grass is cut every day. Do robotic mowers reduce thatch?
Hi if its scarified regular you will notice less thatch. Regular mowing creates a stronger grass.. pllusthr micro grass clippings will be nutrients, may introduce microbes that eat thatch
Hi I got them from my local store PTE on kelham street in Doncaster.. but you can find heavy duty leaf grabbers on ebay, same ones but yellow handles. I think I linked to them on the pdf guide I made for my video lawn care shopping list
Love your videos. Can I have a bit of advice please? I have scarified and tried to aerate today. The soil is thick clay wet soil new build and the cheap manual aerator I have just gets clogged. No tines come out. Would you recommend treating the soil with something first? Or which type of manual aerator would be best for me to purchase?
Hi I know it sounds contradictory but if nothing comes out dont worry too much on this occasion. You are still aerating but not hollow tine.. its better than no aeration. Once its dries out a bit more it would be easier.
Quality as always Shaun. Thanks for sharing your skills. 👍🏻
Thanks Rob.. hope you are well mate
You always get a thumbs up Shaun. Really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Thanks 👍
Thank you! 😊👍
Great job done there Shaun, these videos help a lot . Keep crackin on and the thumbs up will keep coming.
Many thanks!
Nice Job, should come through nice given the weather forecast for the next week 👍
Thanks! Hopefully within 2 or 3 weeks..🤞🤞 part of lawn was in shade so that's gonna take a bit longer
Hi Shaun. I've just ordered the hollow tine aerator from J & J. Thank you 😊
Oh fab stuff..I thought he was out of stock but that's good news!
@LawnRight Lawn Care You are correct. He is out of stock so I'll have to wait ✋️
