  • This horse came in with a massive case of White Line Disease, that required a large dissection to get out all of the disconnected hoof! We finished off this case by shoeing on a glue on heartbar shoe from a Mustad Libero for distributed support throughout the hoof!

    Would like to see what it looked like before you started working on it. So sad for the horse. Would also like to see a follow-up video as it improves.

    Very interesting case, Mr. Olsen!! I love the solution as well. With a glue on and obviously having no wall, that has to be your choice. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦

      Hi maam! Thank you for always being so supportive!!
      We had to see a dissection of this size, but sometimes youve got to do what youve got to do to get it all gone and healing properly!

    I would have loved to hear the story and seen the whole job with explanations, before and after. Is there a reason to leave it open as opposed to using a filler for reinforcement?

      I am not an expert, but have had a horses with a mild case of white line disease. It’s a fungal infection and air is what kills it. That is why it is left open. Our ferrier after about third trimming went and put a filler in for support and aesthetics.

      Hello!
      Yes, white line is a disease where bacteria gets between the white line, and causes separation from the wall. This bacteria thrives where air can not get into, which is why we have to expose all of the infected area. Covering this area would just allow the bacteria that is exposed to fester longer in the hoof!

      @@olsenequinecjf Thank you for your reply. I knew what white line disease is but phrased my post badly. I was asking more about the treatment. You did answer my question. Leaving it open makes sense. Is it also treated with anti-fungal medication to prevent it from getting worse or is letting air to it enough?

      @@olsenequinecjf How much does something like this cost from start to finish? I'm asking because I have a mare who will probably need this procedure done on three feet and I need to know so I can save up in advance and be able to pay.

      It depends on each case. For us, modifying the shoe to make a heart bar and the glue on shoe are the only added costs from a normal base price shoeing. If you want to further discuss our personal prices feel free to reach out through our email or give us a call!

      Hello!
      We have videos on our page explaining white line and why we have to do a dissection! This case came in on a busy day, and sadly we did not have time to slow down and explain everything we did here!

    That has to be such an annoyance to the animal

    • @olsenequinecjf
      @olsenequinecjf  10 місяців тому +1

      Actually, the horse feels no pain during this process, and should feel some relief from the pressure caused from the bacteria pushing on the hoof wall!

      Totally understand. I wasn't referring to the process of correcting it as being the annoyance, but rather, just that it has a pretty bad hoof problem in the first place.
      Would love to see a follow up on this one in the future.
