    Wow, this is so true, I feel very exposed... I don't read romance novels but I find myself stuck in watching useless online videos (for example, recently I am stuck in this Jungian Psychology trivial loop...). The problem is UA-cam and other platforms are designed to keep you on them, so it keeps suggesting videos with clickbait titles directed at my thirst of knowledge. I always try to hide it when I get stuck in these loops and can confirm that "exposing" me in it does make me break off the loop for a bit. I wish I had the ability to break it myself.
    Only once in a few weeks I push myself into learning more useful and practical stuff, like programming and stuff like that

    • @WeisSchwarz
      @WeisSchwarz 4 роки тому +4

      Same here XD. But these videos I think are important for us to know ourselves objectively, to help ourselves to maximize our potentials since we know what we're good and bad at, using these facts, we know what to do next, what may come in the future and how to manage it. Just don't make them trivial. PS: I'm also learning programming (VBA) and still in the "zone". I'd been in your shoes though. Good luck!

      It really depends on how you confront them. ISTJ’s want to be comfortable so you need to find that balance where they are comfortable and also ready to listen to what you have to say to them.
      When I have to confront my istj friends I do it when we’re a long together and joking around. I keep it light and funny. But at the same time making him uncomfortable enough that he notices he needs to make a change.
      In their communication style they are direct and responding. So you need to be direct while also asking the right questions. IE
      Bro you’ve been putting on weight(direct). What are you going to do when you have to buy all your clothes again in XXL(questions so he can think and respond)? Oh why don’t you just fix your diet and lose weight instead. (Direct)
      What’s most important when confronting istjs is asking the right questions to get them to be more objective.
      This worked on my friend because I know he’s cheap af and does not want to buy new clothes in a new size. And I’m my experience a lot of the istjs I know are very cheap haha

He researched the world’s best practices in health, longevity, and medicine. These are the common elements of lifestyle, diet and outlook that have led to amazing quantity of years lived (centurions) but quality as well. His passion is to bring that to unhealthy American lifestyles and culture.

    You seem pretty negative toward fiction, but fictional stories often have a way of getting to a person's heart in a way that non-fiction might not. I still remember some stories that revealed to me some of my own character flaws, because you can find yourself and live inside the story - and then get pulled back to see what's happening in a more objective manner. Not sure I said that very well, but stories are important to me, and I don't think they have to have occurred (with all the specific details) to reveal archetypal truth.

      I agree. While the majority of my reading is nonfiction, I do occasionally enjoy fiction books (though not as trivial as romance novels!) & can oftentimes learn more about myself & how I should be living in this world from those stories. Specifically, Ted Dekker's books are really good at doing this for me.

    Joseph its an evaluation problem 18:25. You have me awake for a moment but i have looked at the books and it's not looking good. Should i work on the scope of local problems? should i climb in power to get more capacity for change?
    If whats needed could easily be identified sure, i could go at the task in the right way and reslve it and sometimes we have things that come up that can be focused on.
    But for the majority of the time after the right amount of information has been collected how can i not be defeatist and nihilistic? The rocks of the earth have always been satified before and they will also be tomorrow. Im reading the romance novel because the evaluations are completed and the amount of drastic change needed is hard to look at in the mirror.
    If i take what needs to be done seriously id have to cry for a while first in an attempt to face myself and i really dont feel like it.
    So the first goal is to identify what needs to be done that is rationally acceptable to put time towards.
    I'll try Joseph. For some reason i just feel lethargic.
    It's almost comedy scene. Looking at the ISTJ relaxing on the couch, exclaim to them that they need to try and you may trigger them right into anger because you have broken their wall down about not taking anything seriously anymore because it's all too hard.
    I just don't know how to keep the effort engine running.

    Still don’t know but I think I’m an ISTJ...
    Just wanted to say...the world will still be here wether I help it or not. And whatever happens is probably meant to happen. And it really doesn’t matter what specifically happens in the future because anything that happens is what is happening. What have I learned from building my library through research and also verifying with my own experience? Change is the only constant, and no one can reliably predict the future. So why try and force a specific outcome? Just do what you want and enjoy the ride. That doesn’t mean that I am hedonistic or selfish, far from it. I’m a minimalist who enjoys helping others improve their own experience of life. I have no family of my own but I still think about saving and investing my money to leave to my siblings and their children. BUT, through research, I’ve found that generational wealth is usually squandered within two to three generations anyway. So again, what’s the point in building an empire for my family if it’s most likely to be lost soon after? The past repeats, remember? So now I’m more focused on a shorter future timeline. Maybe I’ll just save enough for the very next generation, and they’ll have to learn to work and save for their children.

    I'm an ISTJ and have never read a novel besides the dumb ones they make you read in HS. Plus like you said ISTJ's have their own little world so why would we care about anyone else's problems? As long as someone works 9-5, pays the Bill's, and retires then they have done enough for society. I for example love to collect beer bottles and take pride in my ability to obtain ones from different regions of the US. It is a stupid habit, but I never drive drunk, need to make friends, and am happy being alone all the time. I'm a low maintenance person and that is the the best possible thing for society after all of this stupid political drama/sjw stuff.

      Well said.

    • @jakemiller270
      @jakemiller270 6 років тому +2

      I was just confused at the point you made of ISTJ's trying to make changes to society they find important. How can you feel ISTJ's should use their skills to better society or correct others mistakes? Cause most ISTJ's just want to be invisible and not noticed in public. Wanting someone to change someone's personality isn't reasonable and ISTJ's wont change. ESTJ's may do this since it is their nature, but not ISTJ's. Introverts are that way for a reason so I think people should let them live in their own little world cause they don't hurt anyone. I can use myself as an example cause my roommates in college never complained about me because I never talked, complained, or hung out with them and they didnt have anything to hate me for. I can't think of anyone ever saying he doesn't he/she doesnt talk enough, but I often hear he/she talks too much. Also just think how good efficient the world would be if everyone was self centered and did all they could to take care of themselves so no one would ever need help.

    Describes my mother perfectly. At first I thought she was an ISFJ because of her impossibly high moral standards. What she needs to do is stop reading and believing the Bible and read philosophy and self-help books instead. She needs to stop complaining to her children that she is a personal accountant/workhorse for her husband (an ESTP, what a surprise!) and get a divorce. But she is too devoted to the Bible and will never have the guts to do anything about her miserable marriage. Fortunately, I got her to stop being so "devoted" to me when I told her all the ways in which she wronged me as a child (Fe trickster) via my aunts. I told her she should be working on improving herself and her dying marriage instead of spending (wasting) her time managing my adult life. She confirmed her Ti critic and became wiser by consulting more credentialed, professionals than me - her sisters. So far it's working. :) I am just seeing this video and the one on ISTJs, but I didn't know I did exactly what I needed to do...my aunts are the problem now. Spies. Both of them.

      Which is why have you gone to the unconscious part to say that you wouldn't recommend this relationship ? Don't you think that there are some aspects of compatibility in this relationship and they complete each other in the conscious part somehow ?

      Aseel Abukhader no not at all. In fact this would be a relationship based on competition and one upping each other. Sexually speaking, it would be a mess because who will provide the Se for the Si?

    Good to have you back mate. I'm working on developing my subconscious which is ISTJ. Do you suggest developing the shadow or subconscious first?. Your videos have inspired me to see self development more like a pyramid which has the ego at the base then the subconscious then shadow and the superego at the top.
    Also, what's your IG?

    • @CSJoseph

      Michael F I always recommend subconscious first. All you need to do to start developing it is to get over your insecurities and aspire to be more than you are now. My IG is cs.joseph

    Would watching this video be a trivial use of my time or not... like surly there are better uses of my time. I could learn a language, go work out, attempt to network on campus, read a text book, but psychology, its all in good fun, but this is very much truth based and not fact based. People are far too dynamic. I should probably stop watching these videos.

      C.S. Joseph C.S. Joseph to be perfectly honest, I have trouble trusting typology. Part of me is highly intrigued, after all I do have a bit of an obsession with sorting people and figuring myself out, but many times it feels almost too much like a glorified variant of astrology. For which it seems vague descriptions lend us to try to understand ourselves by latching onto these vague statements, and rather than any true discovery, we seem to try to conform ourselves into these profiles.
      Of course to combat this all, I end up digging in a little deeper, avoiding quizzes, and trying to look up functions. It’s all in good fun, but I am forever the skeptic.
      The truth that I do find this all in good fun leads me to question it’s legitimacy as a productive past time. After all, in the past couple hours I went for a run, got lunch, and attended a meeting. Surely my time would be better well spent then watching a UA-cam video (or 20), and yet I seem to be constantly drawn to this series.
      People are very dynamic. Although I do try to understand them like they’re puzzles, there’s a degree in which I find trying to categorize them to be a fools errand. Understand this is a criticism on myself, not your videos for which I mostly enjoy. People are shaped by so many factors, even if you understand their nature, to predict their actions it would seem to be more confident you would need to understand how life has shaped them, and culture. The students of psychology in itself seems to be at conflict with each other over Mbti, human metrics, typology, and jungian theory, and because of this, a person such as myself who focuses my research efforts on other fields, and only engages in human psychology for fun, is prone to have their doubts.
      I understand your viewpoints in asking someone with credentials when the opportunity for independent research is available, but it’s not a matter of being lazy, it’s a matter being busy, and allocating your time more efficiently... and I’ve got to say, in closing, this whole comment feels like I’m not making an effective use of my time, which is odd. My brain is confused. Good day sir, thank you for your insights and seminars.

    When it comes to ISTJs, you're saying the pain comes from people being consistently brutally honest with them?

    • @CSJoseph
      @CSJoseph  6 років тому

      can you provide more context for this question?

    • @shanpurble
      @shanpurble 6 років тому +1

      From what you said, it sounded like ISTJs are unaware of their ability to be objective when their trivia is overused. It sounded as if you were saying that they can get so confident of their poor use in objectivity that it gets to the point of obviously destroying the people around them with the power they possess. And that it takes a cut throat person who has taken the time to see and analysing and bring it to them with no warning to motivate them in a way. It looks like ISTJs need a bit of the parenting from ruthless types as in holding a child accountable for making the bed everyday to develop strong enough grit to become mentally strong in the world.
      That it's best for ISTJs to know when to tone it down with what they know and to dive into the perspectives of other types to gain a devil's advocate way of looking at the situation and maintain a childlike approach to the world at the same time through going back to fiction.
      Does this make sense? Am I making sense?

      Criticism to ISTJ is that "Hey you gather all this information, but only %5 of it is relevant to the end goal... So take this report, burn it, and go generate the report I asked for... Do you understand?"
      Then they will reflect, take it to heart, and learn that they lost sight of the end goal. New strategy in writing the report, they will self-criticize if all information in the report to much sure it serves a purpose.
      That is my guess of what he means, or at least that is what has happened to work in the past.
