- Finally getting around to fixing the leak behind my toilet that I found after traveling across the country. A fellow rv'r offered to share his knowledge with me and get it fixed! I take you guys along with us as we get it repaired. Enjoy!
If you enjoyed my video, it helped you and are able, please consider investing in my channel at www.patreon.com/CampervanKevin. Even $1 a month would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, CVK
If you want a Campervan Kevin Sticker for your RV please visit my YT Homepage or About page and click the Paypal Link to purchase. Thanks
I need to make a suggestion. Please change the name of this video to include the part number 13168. There are many different valves and when I did a search, your video was buried in a bunch of them near the bottom. But it should have been at the top which it would be if you add the part number 13168 to the name. You have a lot of views but you could have more my friend.
This is what I love about the RV community they help each other out
Thats what i love about the RV community- when theres trouble its easy to find someone with the knowledge to fix/repair or in this instance give a helping hand!
How cool. A plumbing lesson with no plumber's crack! Thanks. :)
Oh yeah there was plenty. Doesn't show very well with teeth cam :)
LOL!
Thank you! After looking for hours for my question of using Teflon on Thetford toilet water valve, yours was the one that had the answer. 😅
This has me convinced. Even if I get a rig with a toilet and black tank I’m either getting a compost toilet or lug a loo.
I so admire your manners....I wish more people shared them
CVK and Mr. Jeff, thank you both so much for showing us all how it's done! Wish we'd known how a few years back when we had this very same problem but weren't brave enough to tackle it ourselves.
Wonderful Mr. Jeff! Glad you are back in business.
Is it the camera or does your screwdriver have a 'wow' in it? Lol
Thanks to Mr Jeff for guiding Kevin in this. I love seeing how everyone helps each other with problems.
Hi Jeff! He's so helpful - I've seen him in other videos helping people.
Thanks for doing a great job on videoing the whole process. Thanks!
Thank you Mr. Kevin and Mr. Jeff good infor..
Thanks. This was exactly the repair I needed to do and your video was great. Just finished the job and all is good so far.
Thanks guys got the same one now I can quit blaming the ceiling in the walls for the water in the carpet in the hallway
Now that was one clean bathroom! Jeff seems to really knows his sh*t.
You blushed when he complimented you.
kudos to Mr. Jeff ! brother I know what it took to do that job. :)
yay! hoping for no more leaks! What a nice thing he did to help you accomplish this repair, and learn a new skill!
I hope this video helps out numerous people with same problem. Mr Jeff could not be any nicer of guy. I am meeting so many great people here.
The most helpful video on UA-cam!
Great video Kevin, nice to see how to do the change out and how easy it was. Thanks for showing ...Terry
I had fear of the unknown. Not its not so bad to me.
Wow, a big THANKS to John!! That was harder than I thought.
Jeff, I meant. Just shows how quick I forget! Jeff, man, that's the RV spirit! Great job!
Your videos make me happy thank you campervan Kevin 👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Be happy anyway. It is a concious choice/decision. Eliminate all of the negative out of your life the best you can until you are left with nothing but happiness. I am unsure if you ever reach 100% but for sure you will be closer :)
nice work kevin. it was smart of you to learn and be taught step by step so that you can do it on your own in the future. cool installation and repair. and thumbs up to the that guy who taught you.
Thank you for kind words.
I always like your hands on approach to learning! Great video Kevin!
I learned lots, I hope that in the future this video will help lots of others!
that gives a whole new meaning to working in tight spaces!!!, but basically a simple fix.
Thank you! I have the same problem, and am now going to use your video to replace mine today!
I had a toilet that leaked too it was old so I replaced it. I added a shut off valve Incase it ever happens to me again. that was fun. nice video thanks for showing us.
excellent idea, wish I had done that!
Great how to DIY video. I'm sure it will help other's down the line. Nice guy to walk you thru the steps of repair. I think I saw the same guy helping out one of the lady vanners. Its a wonderful thing when traveler's pitch in and help other's.
Yep this guy was a top shelf kind of person.
Mr. Jeff: What a nice guy.
Found a leak and you answered my question thank you
It's really awesome when people help each other out. I have now learnt something today myself lol. Thank you for sharing always enjoy watching your videos Kevin.
Also like to wish you & the fur baby's 🐾🐾 a happy new year 😊
This old dog got schooled today! ha
Thanks for sharing, I'm having a similar problem with mine where the water won't stop after you flush. This was a big help on showing me how to replace the valve. I subbed ya!
Nice work boys. I broke the lid to my shitter the last time I was out.
gotta quit flushing with your foot :)
Thats were you need one of those ratchet wrenches! Thank you for sharing!
Very impressive, guys!
Thanks for the video, Kevin and Jeff. I have a similar toilet in my trailer. I don't have a leak yet, as far as I know, but should it happen I will know not to panic. Good job!
I had NEVER done one before and was a little cautious to do it. I was afraid that I may make a bigger problem. Having Mr Jeff there gave me confidence to try it. Of course ended up he still did lots of it. However I feel I can do it by myself now.
Exactly, Kevin. Nothing wrong with being cautious. They say courage is being afraid of doing something, but doing it anyways. You did, and in videoing it, you have helped anyone else that might have similar issues. Double kudos!
Nice video, I remember it well when I have messed with mine. I use some petroleum jelly on "O" rings and toilet bowl rings for some lubrication so it will seat well. Just a thin smear will do. Say "Woof" to the pack for me!
Safe travels!
-Jon
did consider it....
Really helpful. Especially about the flange. Woudln't ya know it we put the flange in upside down.
been there done that...good team work
good job man , love your channel and keep the freedom on wheels going
Imatryin!!!
Very good information
Thanks for sharing this.
Very informative. Good job guys.
thanks!
Kevin thanks for that video now I to can change mine if that happens. like to see repair videos helps us to work on our RV without the high cost of repair people.
I let fear stop me. I had the fear of making the problem bigger and no way to correct it if I messed up. Now that I have done it and see all of the project. 99% of the fear is gone. I feel certain that I can do it by myself now.
very valuable info. Thank you. Jp
Great Team Work Again !! :)
thanks!
Well Kevin, I had to go back two years to find this again! I think this is same toilet my 1998 Aerolite has, the hand lever with flat valve inside bowl. Mine is stuck closed and I'm afraid I'll break handle it's stuck so hard. I had no idea it had a thingamajig like that at back! I've got to fix it hopefully this week.
Taka Yama I use your video today to replace my leaking flush valve
Thanks so much fir the video it really helped me
"thingamajig" is a fancy word for crap plastic.
very well done. thankyou
Thanks guys
Glad you're all fixed up.
Nothing like showing the world me sitting on a toilet :)
😛💟😂
If I ever get on the road and get down that way, I'll have to get me some cute pooches so I can get in on all that attention! LOL Good to see things are working out for you...solar soon?
We do what we have to, ha. I got solar already. Did video way back. Having some issues while here, but working it out.
Good to know.
Now I know how to do it! Thanks
me too! ha
Give those dudes a couple beers stat!
I had a beer other night. First one that I can remember in a very long time. I have 2 different doctors that told me to drink a beer a day.Very rarely do I enjoy beer or drinking alcohol, but I am not dead set against it. I may have 2 or 3 drinks per year. If beer tasted better to me I might follow my docs advice.
I'm the same way. I have beer on hand for friends dropping by but I have never been a drinker, smoker, and especially not an other substance user. But once in a while, when I've done something worthy, I'll kick back and have one. You'll appreciate that today, I have officially lost 60 pounds. No butter, dairy, sugar or sugary foods, red meats, limited pork, fish, chicken. Lots of vegetarian cooking and 30 minutes minimum walking everyday. No more stents for this guy.Feel great, great, great! Take care,,,,
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!
You wisely switched to a socket for the re-install? How/why did you rule out the "supply line/hose or its nut"? I always put fresh newspaper down after plumbing fixtures to monitor leaks.
Great work boys! Thanks!
Socket was too tall. Good eye there! ;) Ruling out the supply line was ... well that was just a guess. I will get some paper down to keep an eye on it. Great idea. Thanks for watching. CVK
Get a set of pass through sockets and a set of stubby gearwrench style wrenches, lot's of tight areas on an RV that long wrenches just don't fit.
cool vid
Can you tile behind the toilet and back wall to prevent rotting the rv walls?
Nice video Kevin, Looks like you have a special curved screwdriver there, where can i get one to add to my tool kit?....lol
that's custom. Special order snap on!
That looked like you where carrying the holy grail Kevin.
at times the toilet has much more value than others... just saying
Nice
Nothin' like watching men who are mechanically minded. Becoming more rare. and again, thanks for sharing your bathroom with us. ha ha Now how bout them there dawgs?
Go Dawgs!
I need a Mr. JEFF!
get a ratchet set Kevin. Nice to have friends
Now that's just coincidence. I just had to replace that same valve on my toilet because of a hard freeze. The water frozen inside and broke the valve last winter
Wow you were lucky that was the only damage!
Hey I'm have low water pressure on the toilet flush any tip or videos on what the problem is??
most rv toilet water fills are slow, if yours is very slow but working you may have some kind of partial blockage in fresh water line
I'd have put a little Vaseline on the O rings Pryor to pushing valve in. However it seemed to go on just fine.s
was considered...
*rips bag open* "looks different"...same thing. *holds flange seal* "looks different" ...it's upside down.....always take care in opening a package or box in case you have to return it.
Look at you Mr Handyman..😉👍 Well done, I am so proud of you my friend!!! 👏😄👍 Give the woof pack a pet from me!!! Hugs👍😉💓😄🚐
could not have done it without Mr Jeff
Campervan Kevin That what I love about RTR is the way everybody comes to getting and helps one another!!! 😄👍 It is so awesome and I am so happy you did this video that shows that caring sense of community everyone has for one another. 👏😉💓😄🚐
Would that be the same issue for water not coming out so I could flush?
Pump off or no water...plugged w trash?
Pump off water hose directly to camper
I accidentally pulled the water valve lever completely off of the toilet when replacing the water valve and can't figure out what it connects to. Can you help?
sorry, if it had not been for my help I may have not made it
Should probably add that you should turn your water supply off before starting. Pretty much goes without saying but it could happen.
I did have that written in one of my clips. If it did happen I hope folks could figure it out ha
Do you think you could have just replaced the o -rings ,you can find them in hardware stores
I didn't look close enough to see. Maybe there are other wear items as well. If I had to do it over again I think an added inline cutoff valve would be a good idea as well.
That look like tedious work getting the toilet back in.
that would be my biggest fear when I have to do it again. I feel that I could do it though. I'd just have to take my time.
Campervan Kevin and you can always use the video you took to help guide you for the next time. Take care and have a great weekend!
O ring grease Kev ,,,,,
did you get the AC looked at? cause Ron posted a video last year of a lady's RV go up in flames cause of compressor.
It is the A/C compressor on engine. I am hoping it wont be an issue until I return to RV BaseCamp in Spring. Its possible I may have it looked at before hand. I feel for sure it is something minor.
I just replaced a/c on roof with a new one but did not film it. My buddy David from Savannah that is an RV tech did it for me.
Campervan Kevin. ok just want you and that beautiful woof pack be safe and around for at least another 100 years. ;)
What is the A/C not doing? Not cooling? Compressor clutch not engaging? Rapid cycling of the clutch?
Compressor clutch not engaging. It was cooling GREAT until it wasn't. No horrible noises, no thrown engine belts. Lines still have charge. Hi/Lo switch maybe?
Check the clutch relay and it's fuse first. Both in the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. The relays tend to have the contacts fail. Also check the HVAC fuse under the front seat.
Next try a jumper across the low side switch on the accumulator. Just unplug it and stick a short wire in. Try the A/C, if it works now the switch is bad, replace the switch.
For the high pressure and clutch test you will have better access under the front of the rig.
Look at the clutch connector you should have a Green wire and a Black wire. Green is 12 Volt power through the relay, Black is ground. Take two wires, connect one to battery power the other to battery ground. Hook the ground wire to the terminal the black wire was on. Now touch the power lead to the other terminal. The clutch should snap into engagement. If it doesn't, tap on the front disc. if it snaps in now you have a weak clutch or excessive air gap from wear. If it still doesn't the clutch has burnt out. (can be changed without discharging the system)
Pull the connector off the high pressure switch on the back of the compressor, put a short wire between the two contacts inside the connector you took off. Try the A/C if it works that high pressure switch is bad.
If none of these seem to make the A/C work it's possibly a bad wire or bad control head. The last test I'll give you bypasses the internal controls and wiring.
Look at the high pressure switch connector, it should have a light green wire and a dark green with white tracer. The light green goes to the control head. The Dark Green w/White is the system request signal. If you take the power jumper you used in the clutch test and plug it into the connector on the Dark Green wire, it will tell the A/C to turn on. Start the engine and see if the A/C is now on. If it's working the control head or wiring has a problem.
If it turns out to be the clutch or high side switch, it may be cheaper to just get a replacement compressor.
Any questions just ask.
Which is jeff and which is the wingnut
will replacing this valve fix a no fresh water running when flushed..previous owner said hell man that never did run water, i just used the shower head to rinse the bowl out...lol..true shit caint make this up..lol
Is there a regulator that can be attached to the water line?
Well you can purchase them that fit on before the rv at the water line. I always use one. The 12volt pump that supplies water when no outside water is hooked up is already at safe pressures.
now that's a dirty job!
na, my potty is so clean I could have ate a sandwich at same time while working on it ;) ha
I once work at a construction site where the gentleman cleaning the porta-toilet was eating a sandwich at the same time.
Minute 4:59 part number 13168
Good Job but both of you should wear gloves and masks!
would u like it better if the shower did not have that useless seat near the bottom? seems like it cramps the shower space?? i think bathroom sinks are a waste of space. just use the kitchen sink. the makers dont think anybody is big. carpet does not belong in the bathroom. be better id sink was torn out and toilet was moved over 6 inches and put at 30 degree angle. removing crummy bathroom door will give more ambient space. the bathroom is most important part of rv but they dont get it. small people are lucky.
I actually use the seat. I sit right on edge to shower. Its tight for sure, but works. I could make a better design as well.
Crap plastic.
