Not Another Teen Movie Movie Description:
"Not Another Teen Movie" shows no mercy as it skewers the conventions and clichés of the genre you hate to love. Join Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh), an aspiring artist who is outcast by her classmates for wearing glasses, a ponytail and paint-covered overalls; and Jake Wyler (Chris Evans), the all-American football star who makes a foolish bet to turn Janey into a prom queen, in a risqué romp with an assortment of twisted takes on classic teen characters and teen movies.
Not Another Teen Movie is a 2001 American teen parody film directed by Joel Gallen and written by Mike Bender, Adam Jay Epstein, Andrew Jacobson, Phil Beauman, and Buddy Johnson. It features an ensemble cast including Chyler Leigh, Chris Evans, Jaime Pressly, Eric Christian Olsen, Eric Jungmann, Mia Kirshner, Deon Richmond, Cody McMains, Sam Huntington, Samm Levine, Cerina Vincent, Ron Lester, Randy Quaid, Lacey Chabert, Riley Smith and Samaire Armstrong.
Released on December 14, 2001, by Columbia Pictures, the film is a parody of teen films. While the general plot is based on She's All That, as well as Varsity Blues, 10 Things I Hate About You, Can't Hardly Wait and Pretty in Pink, the film is also filled with allusions to teenage and college-age films from the 1980s and 1990s, such as Bring It On, American Pie, Cruel Intentions, American Beauty, Never Been Kissed, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Can't Buy Me Love, Jawbreaker, Sixteen Candles, Dazed and Confused, Lucas, Rudy, The Breakfast Club, Grease, and Road Trip.

This movie is a parody on 1998's "She's All That". BUT it also parody on many other movies (or better say - some plots or the scenes).
Funny movie
13:00 This was probably my favorite part.
Damn, they don't ship to Canada
“Eat My Shorts”
MellVerse-“What Type Of Insult Is That?”
That’s Actually Bart’s Most Famous Insult From The Simpsons
This movie did parody right. It's more than just making jokes about something, you have to understand what you're doing and why. And this movie nailed it.
It's one of the last good parody flicks before stupid shit like Date Movie and Epic Movie ruined the genre.
Yep, this one and the first couple movies in the Scary Movie franchise understood the concept of taking a bunch of sources of inspiration and blending them up into something new (like many parody / satire movies over the previous few decades had done). Granted, they had their fair share of moments that were just thrown in as quick gags on the side. But they used something as a core story for everything else to be built around.
And then they were followed up by a trend of "Movie Movies" which often failed to do much more than loosely stitch together a bunch of separate skits (and sometimes some of the skits wouldn't even be in the same theme that they'd specified in the title).
@@alucard624 The only decent parody after this was Walk Hard.
@@MuljoStpho All those later parody films have one thing in common. They all have he name of Adam Seltzer attached to them He and his partner make the absolute WORST parody movies out there. You see his name on it, don't watch it.
@@alucard624 It's Aaron Seltzer, and his partner is Jason Friedberg. And yes, their movies are absolute garbage. The one good post-NATM parody, Walk Hard, was produced by Judd Apatow.
This movie hits all the best teen movies from the 90s (with some references to the 80s Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink as well). Varsity Blues, She's all That, Cruel Intentions, American Pie, Never Been Kissed, Can't Hardly Wait, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Bring It On... to just name a few lol.
The movie they reference with the video guy and the plastic bag is from American Beauty.
Can't hardly wait. Couldn't remember that one lol
@@jasonmancil4324 I remembered Jennifer but couldn't think of the name to save my life. Was driving me crazy til I saw this comment. I swear her and Tiffani Thiessen just get better with age.
Got to love Parody movies like this, Vampire's Suck, Scary Movie, and so on
My personal favorite scenes are the Can't Hardly Wait scenes with the girl from Mean Girls. "She took forever this time" 🤣
Basically every teen movie that came out in 1999 is referenced in this movie, lol. Also a few from the 1980s.
Mel being torched and laughing at so many scenes of this film was almost as funny as this movie. Both 10/10 gold
at the end he could barely speak 🤣
@@MrfuckinBeilke the last 25 seconds just kills me.
At first I was thinking he was saying he took one just for the add. Then I say his face😂
Fun fact - this was Chris Evans' first starring role.
Oh, and the trainer that helps Billy Bob off the field is H. Jon Benjamin, the voice-actor for Archer and Bob of Bob's Burgers.
this was indeed an excellent fun fact
Another Fun Fact: the Chris Evans´s number in the football match is a "4". ¿Fantastic Four Prediction? Excelsior, true believers!!!!!!!!!
He can do that all day. Friggin captain America.
Another fun fact, according to the director's commentary in the blu ray, they had to reshoot the "Cruel Intentions" scene between Chris Evans and Mia multiple times.
The reason was that every time she sat on him and he kept getting erect to the point that it was noticeable. The director would stop the scene, and Chris would leave the room to handle it. Then, they'd try to reshoot the scene only for it to get back up.
The cast laughed at how fast his recovery time was.
In all honesty, I don’t know which movie they did not “parody” in this one. They covered everything from grease to American pie. Brilliantly done. And Chabert and Presley are smokin….
Agreed, Lacy Chabert 10/10
yes some smoking hot women. If Presley had a normal voice instead of the redneck voice that she does have, she would have been Margot Robbie long before Margot Robbie was on the scene. @@Handsomeanthony68
I was probably too young to be watching this when it came out but I loved it. 😅 I already knew a few of the movie references and ended up watching others because of this movie.
We all were lol I was 11 when I saw this on HBO back in the day.
@@TheKorfish lol yeah I was 9 when it came out. I think I asked my mom to rent it while at Blockbuster and she didn't really pay attention to the rating or anything. I walked in on her and my aunt drinking and watching my DVD copy of it a few years after that and they were dying of laughter. 😅
@@katwebbxo nice
I was 15 when it came out lol
same lol... wish they made more of these today
Fun fact, casting Lacy Chabert was itself an inside joke, as she was meant to be a parody of the character her Party of Five co-star, Jennifer Love Hewitt played in Can't Hardly Wait.
What was it with teen idols in the 90's using three of their names professionally?
- Jennifer Love Hewitt
- Melissa Joan Hart
- Jonathan Taylor Thomas
- Sarah Michelle Gellar
- Neil Patrick Harris
- Zachary Ty Bryant
- Sean Patrick Thomas
- Brian Austin Green
This was a trend that was distinctly part of that era.
@@joshbates9015 in most cases when an actor uses their three names it usually had to do with the Screen Actors Guild. Odds are there already was a Jennifer Hewitt registered so she used her whole name. Same reason while Michael J Fox uses the J.
@@frylock97 And why David X Cohen of Futurama fame uses the X. X is not even his middle initial, but his actual name, even including his actual middle initial was taken, so he used the X because he thought it sounded cool and would most likely not be taken.
@@joshbates9015 yea usually only assassin's get the 3 name treatment.
@@joshbates9015 Not really. Young actors and actresses often find that older actors were already registered with their names, and the guilds do not allow duplication. Either you go with your extended name or work under a pseudonym.
12:46 - Anthony Michael (Dining) Hall = an 1980's star from films like, "Weird Science," "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club" (16:04) = the principal from the school. the dude was a great parody of Judd Nelson (as the rebel "Bender" character) too ! 25:03 = "Bring It On"
The guy pointing and saying “She’s got a gun!” always makes me lose it😂
The bag scene was from a movie called American Beauty back in 1999. It was a weird kid much like this one, that recorded a video of a bag floating in the wind. He talked about how beautiful and Majestic and yada yada it was.. it was just a bag.
Janie is not the finest girl in the school, that has to be Lacey Chabert. The one her brother was after, who was also Meg Griffin in the first season of Family Guy
Nah Janie was the finest but we can agree to disagree
I love American Beauty. I watched it because of this movie lol.
@@katwebbxo I think I watched both for the first time around 2001. American Beauty is a phenomenal movie
i just watched american beauty last week and i never got that reference in this movie but now i do and it's hilarious omfg
Surprised someone has mentioned Lacey for Family Guy instead of Gretchen Wieners from Mean Girls
The sister and brother scene is from Cruel Intentions; Jake with the whipped cream was Varsity Blues. But the main story parody is She's All That.
10 things I hate about you and Never been kissed also
The Famous Whip Cream Bikini, Varsity Blues and have to get a shout out to Cruel Intentions used to be one of my favorite movies lol
This is one of the most brilliant compilation parody films ever l, actually lol.Even it it's totally filthy. And the cameos are crazy. An incomplete list of the main influences:
American Pie, She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Cruel Intentions, Never Been Kissed, Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, Breakfast Club, Bring It On, Porky's, American Beauty, Can't Hardly Wait, Varsity Blues, Grease, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Rudy, Heathers, Jawbreaker, Clueless, Save the Last Dance, Election, Can't Buy Me Love, and Road Trip.
Also American Beauty
Now he's gotta react to all these at one point lol 😆
It's practically masterful. A lot of the references are subtle too.
I would add only two movies to your exhaustive list: "Lucas" and "Risky Business"
Correct! 😎
You cracking up cracked me up. I forgot how legendary this movie was. Also, the triple pairing between you, Bay Smokes and this movie is perfect.
7:50 American Beauty
18:33 10 Things I Hate About You
28:55 Road Trip
34:38 More than you'd think.
6:54 Cruel Intentions
You forgot shes all that.
@@JasonMyers1212 I forgot nothing. He didn't ask, so I didn't answer.
@@Leofilmperson no you did forget deal with it bud
@@JasonMyers1212, also Varsity Blues & Never Been Kissed
24:24 caught me off guard… you editing yourself in between them😂😂😂😂 had me cackling
“Eat My Shorts”
MellVerse-“What Type Of Insult Is That?”
That’s Actually Bart’s Most Famous Insult From The Simpsons
Hmmm, that line was common while I still watched the show (which was up until something like season... 12? 13?) but I wonder if they phased it out at some point in the 20 (give or take a few) years since then.
That and..."Don't have a cow, man"!
*The Captain America origins story*
Yup he fell in love with Lexi Grey
Can't believe this was one of the first few films I was introduced with Chris Evans 😂 he was meant to give speeches
The chick that played Janey said she was totally coked out while they were making the movie. She is SUPER hot in the video for Marilyn Manson's Tainted Love cover that is included on the DVD. Its crazy how Jaime Pressly was probably like 36 when they made this - playing a high school girl. I LOVED her as Joy in My Name Is Earl.
I was 11 when I first saw this and I recognized all the teen & romantic comedy references. Guess I really underestimated how much of a rebel I was as a kid 😅
This parody actually works compared to the BS flicks that came later thanks an actual funny script and some damn good actors who went on to much bigger roles. Chris Evans is hilarious throughout.
Damn straight. Other "parody" movies are just unrelated skits to hide a weak story. Everything this pokes fun at is relevant to the main theme. It really is a movie for people who are fan of the original genre rather than fleeting pop culture.
Only this movie would have the balls to stick a banana up America's ass.
It used to be “ten scenes I love about parodies”
But after so many released parodies it’s become “oh no not again”
17:56
I love how the original bullies were the ones that pulled him off the kid 😂 THE LAYERS!
Fun fact: the actress playing the foreign nudist played the yellow ranger in Lost Galaxy. If I had a nickel for every former yellow ranger that has done nudity, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but weird that it has happened twice.
Lol who was the other???? 😂😂
the fact that they got chris evans to do this ridiculous movie is fucking hilarious
"I Don't Like Big Speeches"
MellVerse-"But You Made A Big One At The Game"
And Also All The Time For The Avengers 😂
The creepy guy with the plastic bag was parodying American Beauty, a quirky classic which is a must-see. The redhead who worked in the airport was Molly Ringwold, who starred in several teen movies in the ‘80s
I love how Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners of Mean Girls) is playing Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Character in Can’t Hardley Wait. Lacey has always given that JLW vibe
Yea just without the talent or likeability,Jlh is a hundred times hotter any day of the week although maybe not so much now.lacey does look better these days but I still can't stand her.
chis evans is just so genuine in every performance he gives. just something to keep in mind if ever something "unfortunate" happens to his wife. just saying, he's that good.
I usually hate parody movies because I love the original content so much but even though I love the movies that they're picking on in this this has to be one of the best parody movies I've ever seen
OMG I forgot how much I use to love this movie. This was loaded with so many references from the teen movies of the 80’s and 90’s.
Most are between John Hughes and the resurgence of the late 90’s.
A must see on these are Cruel Intentions (Sister stuff), American Beauty (The bag guy), She’s all that (Main plot) etc.
The one black guy at the party was hilarious because the Sean Patrick Thomas cameo. He was in Save The Last Dance like a couple years earlier.
I could watch this a bunch of times and catch something new each time.
Forgot how funny this film was, this is such an underrated comedy. Actually quality casting
You should spend a month reacting to some of the movies this parodied.
"She's All That", "10 Things I Hate About You", "Can't Hardly Wait" and "American Pie" are the the main ones if I remember correctly.
American Beauty was one of them too
@@myar3380 yeah.... but not plot wise. Just like the Breakfast Club scene, and the two Bring It On scenes
@@christophermcbride2522 ohhhh I see what you mean
I thought there was a mean girl reference with the mean girls in pink trio
@@Melanie-jy2nw this movie came out in 2001. "Mean Girls" was 2004. I never saw "Mean Girls". I was 14 at that time.
Saw this in theaters with my wife on our very first date. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The Bring It On scene will always make me laugh.
Some of the movies they spoofed were: Never Been Kissed, Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, Cruel Intentions, American Beauty, Can't Hardly Wait, Pretty In Pink, Grease
She’s All That too
Varsity blues. They did the whip cream bit first
@@seanmurphy6136 And Reggie Ray was played by the same actor from Varsity Blues.
American pie too don't forget that
In case it’s not listed already parodies include:
Main: She’s all that
American Pie
Mean Girls
Varsity Blues
Cruel intentions
Can’t Hardly Wait
Others are references to other movies like 10 thing I hate about you, sixteen candles, breakfast club, never been kissed, bring it on and the teen genre in general
And a couple of the tiny jokes parodied Risky Business and Lucas. 80s movies that are pretty obscure at this point (dang I’m old…)
@@BabySis_xoxo As we’ll as Rudy (made original comment before finishing video 😁) And I loved Lucas, because what is normal?
10 things I hate about you.
How could they have parodied mean girls when it came out AFTER this movie was released?
They couldn't have referenced Mean Girls. It came out 2 1/2 years after this movie.
10 Things I Hate About You was a movie referenced a lot in this movie. I love this movie. It is hilarious and thank you for reacting to it. It is a rarer one to see. :D
This is a movie that . You really should have easily seen about 20 other teen movies to get the specific references.. all of John Hughes 80s out put, Varsity Blues, American Beauty, American Pie, She's All That, Cruel Intentions, Never Been Kissed, Ten Things I Hate About You, Bring It On, Rudy, Can't Hardly Wait. And I'm sure I still missed a good dozen more. Lol
I love the background adlibs!! Especially the party scene with the water 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The scene with the “beautiful” bag with that weird guy filming them in the beginning is a parody of American Beauty. Amazing film! I recommend you to watch it!!
Agreed shame Kevin Spacey tainted everything he was a part of.
I had no business watching this as a kid lol but it brings back so many memories. the Janey's got a gun is the best part
Loved this! The whole dynamic between Jake and his sister (and the bet kinda) is from Cruel intentions with Reese Witherspoon .
Fun fact, the foreign exchange student was a Power Ranger just two years before she did this movie.
Another power rangers fun fact: Janey's actress, chyler leigh (who's best known for the cbs/cw supergirl show) has a brother who also played a power ranger 3 years prior to the film.)
Mellow you killed me when you had your eyes closed because I knew what was coming I knew as soon as you started hearing the noises you weren't going to be in that blissful happy place anymore and I was right 🤣🤣🤣
I've always loved this movie and no clue why my mom ever let me watch this when I was younger If she had known what went on in this movie there's no way in hell haha. So many great references and cameos. In my opinion it's one of the best parody movies out there. Raunchy, dumb, but extremely fun.
This didn't get a lot of attention upon its release, if I recall correctly. Owned a copy on VHS back in the day. And just so you know, yes; the father is played by Randy Quaid who was Russell Case in Independence Day like you said. This was one of the last movies I saw him in, aside from his small role in Brokeback Mountain. He has since went insane, last I heard. Read a story how he sold an owned home, then was arrested for trespassing with his wife for still occupying the residence after the sale finalized.
Both reportedly trashed a few hotel rooms they stayed in before seeking asylum in Canada after claiming Heath Ledger and David Carradine were murdered. Although I was never a major fan of his work, his chilling acting in Hard Rain really stuck out to me. He remains an Oscar nominee for Supporting Acting in The Last Detail. His brother Dennis Quaid has completely severed ties, last I heard. If Randy didn't go off the deep end and did more roles akin to Hard Rain, I definitely feel he could've been a powerhouse in Hollywood. Yet alas...
I remember hearing about Quaid too. Didn't watch too many American films growing up, so I only knew him from the Disney movie Home on the Range lmao. His story is so bizarre. Last I remember he was living in a car with his wife (gf?) and was making the most bizarre rants via video.
@@AmorePasta Absolute perfect example of a fall from grace celebrity. It's as if Randy became equally deranged to the many characters he portrayed. Aside from NATM and ID, the Christmas Vacation films come to mind as well. I must reiterate that his acting in Hard Rain was pretty much flawless, however.
Randy Quaid is awesome--then, now, and forever.
@@porflepopnecker4376 He's ranting nonsense on Twitter like an absolute loon. And I'm not going to entertain the idea of giving such a deranged freak any such attention.
He also did a very good, nuanced and moving performance in a Rom Com called By Bye Love, with Paul Reiser
This was the first rated R movie I saw. Lol I was 11. Vhs from Blockbuster. My dad didn't care enough to check what it was rated before we got it. Thankfully I watched it before my mom knew that I had it. 😂good times
It is sad to know that this generation has missed seeing gems like: Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Varsity Blues, American Beauty, Cruel Intentions, Never Been Kissed, Risky Business, Grease... Among many other works of art from youth films .

So if you see this movie more than once, you start pausing at scenes like 3:33 and reading ("Hamsters or Gerbils: Which is Right For You?"), and really any other scene where you can find something in the background. Then you realize how brilliant this movie actually is. There are so many great jokes that go unnoticed, it makes this movie that much more rewatchable
The cast in this movie, when you look at it now, was incredible!
I'm a huge fan of compilation spoof movies. I always wished I had friends who shared my passion, and we could make a party game out of recognizing which movies/references they cover, and why the various cast are otherwise famous. 💜🤣
Same...i feel alone...ha ha
Spoof movies released these days get review bombed by the medias and hate flooded, mob bullied to death on social medias by superhero fanboys and the like (basically the same idiots that give avengers and spiderman spiderverse a higher score than Godfather 2 on imdb) which cause them to tank at the box office, and movie studios to move away from producing them. These fanboys want to wipe these movies from existence and brainwash everyone to think marvel dad jokes is the only "humor" we need, and that marvel cringe jokes is actually an evolution of comedy into a more mature state
this movie was just UNHINGED from beginning to end... yet i knew every movie they were taking from.... it is impressive how they got all of that cohesively in a movie
I was a pre teen when these type of movies came out. My humor was definitely affected. Disaster Movie was my favorite
Bag Boy is from American Beauty. The stalker if from Pretty in Pink, The cheerleaders are from Bring It On and the main guys sister is parodying Cruel Intentions. All really good movies.
Before becoming Captain America, Chris Evans starred in this, the first two Fantastic Four movies, Street Kings and The Losers. The two big cameos are Melissa Joan Hart and Molly Ringwald
I was 30 (Gen-X) when this came out and knew the movies it spoofed and the songs. Im thrilled that Millennials and Gen-Z love it too! It's a classic!

"Cellular" is another younger Chris Evans movie that's worth watching, really enjoyable. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite comedies of all time 🤣🤣🤣 I remember when Captain American came out and I was like "Jake Wiler is Captain America!!!" Haha
I put this right up there with Airplane, Scary Movie, and Blazing Saddles as one of the best parody movies.
I have to respectfully disagree.
This movie is so hilarious, it's my favorite parody movie that's for sure. 😂🧡 Your reaction is priceless! 😂🧡
The old guy who plays the principal is George Wyner, who also played Colonel Sandurz in Spaceballs.
Man, me and my siblings quote this movie all the time XD
And I appreciate it so much more these days.
I'm not gonna say it's a FANTASTIC parody movie, but it has its charm, for me anyway.
I friggin loved this movie back in the day.
I can't even count how many times I've seen it.

I dunno why but I must congratulate you Mellverse for not saying "shit, damn or that's whack" when the girl fell through the ceiling and the toilet sprayed literal shit everywhere 🤣 🤮 I know that's fucked up

This movie had always been one of my favourites to watch because of it’s hilarious jokes 😂
This and Superhero Movie are the best spoofs! Reminds me of all the older Leslie Nielsen movies from back in the day ❤
I remember watching this movie for the first time back in 2015 at age 14 and didn't get any joke yet. Now it's just twice as hilarious 😂😂

I still think Cerina Vincent the one who played the naked foreign girl is a hell of an actress. She's was in 2003 cabin fever and several other good movies.
7:55 that's a parody of American Beauty, which came out in 2000 and it's one I highly recommend seeing, even though parts of it with Kevin Spacey are super uncomfortable to watch now.

your reactions just seem to have stepped up to a new level, did'nt think it possible, thanks bro.
That "you haven't spoken to me in four years, Jake" is a reference to 'whatever it takes' which came out in 2000
This movie is such a guilty pleasure for me 2000s nostalgic and to be silly 🥰
that movie was a hidden treasure. so many great actors and hot women. More movie references than maybe any satire movie and Good charlotte as the prom band. Everything in this movie hit the bell man.
