Marko Hietala, on the bass and singing here, is an absolute metal god! He might be the most treasured Finnish musician today. Never met anyone in Finland who doesn't adore him!
Back in the 80s he paved the way for metal music in Finland with his band Tarot, both as main vocalist and bassist, contributing a lot to the nation's rise into the most metal country in the world! He is in everything, from Heavisaurus videos ( a metal band who makes children's music) to the Christmas metal event Raskasta Joulua!
I saw him live this year, his voice is absolutely stunning. There isn't a single male vocalist I adore more. He is also absolutely hilarious. If you continue watching Nightwish live videos you will continue to stumble upon his fantastic vocal performances, ramblings on martians, bare feet, the 'fuck me' blooper and more :D

This song is about the creation of the earth, the evolution of life, of humanity and of music. Various changes in the music and the stage indicate events during those evolutions. It consists of several parts, the last part is instrumental with inly spoken words. That is why the band uses it as the closing song. AFAIK they never play encores, so the final song has to make sure the audience understands it is over. During the Imaginaerium tour (Wacken 2013) they ended with Last Ride of the Day and in the recent Human :|: Nature tour they also end with a mostly instrumental piece in that case Ad Astra.

If you have time, please watch the live version of this masterpiece in Tampere. dr. Dawkins is not there (a world famous professor in evolution therory, who wrote a book. This CD is based on his book) Beautiful , other intro different instruments and lots of firework. Really WOW. Thanks for your reaction.
Troy has a mic, because he also sings and has a beautiful voice. That is an IRISH bagpipe! omg, lyrics are everything with Nightwish. It's about the bg bang and evolution on earth and how short humans excist on earth and will extinct. That's also a part of evolution, we are selfdestructive. Floor her make up and rings are awesome, but lyrics sir....lyrics. haha. And you missed some musical eater eggs (Bach, Metallica etc)

Oh my pleasure! I had 2 of them over the years. Fun tools to mess with. E Bow stands for Electric Bow. It’s supposed to give the effect of bowing the strings like a cello or violin…it basically sustains the note as long as you hold it there.

Troy, aside from playing guitar, flutes, and singing, is playing the Uilleann pipes. It's an Irish bagpipe that instead of a mouth piece has a bag under his arm that's filled with air and he then uses the forearm to force air through the pipes. the name literally means, "pipes of the elbow"...

The song is about the evolution of the planet Earth and the life upon it, leading to humankind and its inevitable extinction. Richard Dawkins is an evolutionary biologist and an emeritus fellow of New College, Oxford. The passage he reads is from the last paragraph of "Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin. I saw you look puzzled for a moment when Emppu played the riff from "Enter Sandman". That passage was about the evolution of music from tribal drums to Bach, banjos, EDM and Metallica.
There's a passage in the song, "Enter LUCA" which is a reference to the Last Universal Common Ancestor, in other words the organism from which all life on Earth is descended and related.
    There's a lot to unpack.

  • @isaiahwelch8066

@muSiK (by Jeremy H.): This song is utter musical genius. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist, took 14.6 billion years and boiled that universal history into a 24-minute song. This is his compositional magnum opus, and is a major reason why we in the Nightwish Army call him the "Metal Mozart."
That being said, Tuomas was inspired by the book "The Greatest Show On Earth," written by Dr. Richard Dawkins. It was because of this book that Tuomas wrote a masterpiece that isn't just to Earth, as the planet, but to us, the human race, as well.
In case you were wondering, here are the words at the end of the show (partly):
"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?" ~ Dr. Richard Dawkins, _The Greatest Show On Earth_
The other author Tuomas is inspired by is Dr. Carl Sagan, who wrote a piece called "The Pale Blue Dot." I recommend, at your leisure, to watch the official video for "All The Works of Nature Which Adorn The World: Ad Astra," which has a passage spoken in it. It is not, by the way, a vocal piece; it is an instrumental piece. Here is the "Pale Blue Dot" quotation:
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam." ~ Dr. Carl Sagan, _Pale Blue Dot_
Now think about how lucky we are, to be alive, on a planet that not only is in the middle of the galactic nowhere, but is in a solar system that we now think is the rarest type in the known universe. How much in awe are these things, that our minds are blown when we contemplate them. It is truly staggering how insignificant we really are.
Edit: Jeremy, Troy plays the Uaellian (pronounced "ill•in") pipes, the national instrument of Ireland. Unlike the Scottish bagpipes, the Uaellian pipes are not blown into, but are inflated with bellows worked with the elbow, hence the name, as "uaellian" means "elbow" in Gaelic. However, as Troy once remarked, "You have to be a bit, just a bit crazy, to play 'em," referring to his pipes. The one characteristic that separates the two types of pipes is that the Uaellian pipes have a much mellower sound than do the Scottish bagpipes.

The title of the issue is taken from a 2009 book by evolutionary biologist and atheist writer Richard Dawkins, about the evidence for biological evolution. Dawkins also contributes to the album. Holopainen explained to HMV in March 2015: "I wrote him a letter a little over a year ago and explained what ideas we had for this album, mainly about evolution. Since one of the songs goes straight to one of his books, it felt like a perfect match to try and recite him on the album. A few weeks later, he sent me an email accepting the invitation."
"Later in 2014, we recorded his parts at Hats Off Studios, Oxford. This is a huge honour for us, as Dawkins is one of our greatest heroes and his writings have been a huge inspiration for the album."

Great reaction! It is understandable to miss the lyrics on first listen (though certainly they're worth revisiting). I actually get annoyed when reactors spend so much time trying to figure out the lyrics in a live performance, they completely miss the performance itself. Ugh!
You asked about possibly "reviewing" Sancta Terra, but I personally would rather you react to Nightwish+Floor (or even Epica) songs that you've not heard before. There's a ton of great material out there, without going back to something you've already heard.

Fair enough about the lyrics - I usually listen a few to several times before I pay attention to much more than the sound of them. If you were coming to this song from the album you would have had a better idea anyway, because it's the theme of the album, but hey, there's plenty of times for relistens and (eventually) looking at the content of the lyrics! Glad you enjoyed it; as others have said, watch the Tampere version sometime - Wembley has better sound but the visuals at Tampere are something else.

I love this song! Masterpiece🤩 and Floor's voice is always so perfect. She just knows what kinda voice fits to what song.
Just a side note since you said you really are Epica fan: Simone Simons has said that,
Nightwish's former and original singer, Tarja Turunen influenced Simone with her voice.

Oh yes! Def familiar with Tarja. She was still with them when I first heard them and Epica. That was actually the last time I listened to Nightwish. So it’s nice to come back and see what Floor is adding to it. They absolutely rock!

Troy the guy playing the ebow plays something like 5-7 different instruments and sings. The mic is for the other instruments. If you pay attention to him through out the course of this 1 song you'll see him play 3 different instruments and doing back up vocals.

Hello again, Jeremy (my fantastic son-in-law's name BTW). I am so glad to see you back with our beloved Nightwish with Floor on lead vocals. The Wacken 2013 concert and this concert at Wembley 2015 (along with more than I want to list here) are incredible from start to finish. This concert's amazing show opener was Shudder Before The Beautiful followed immediately by Yours Is An Empty Hope where you can hear Floor doing all of the harsh growls through every chorus while Marko (our twin goatied bassist) sings clean above her. You definitely need to check that one out since it will show you a whole new side of our lovely Floor. Here's the link to both of those:

I think a lot of reactors leave this till later so they get it more. It's obviously about evolution and it does help to know who Richard Dawkins is, I'm English so obviously I do he's so well known. Good reaction though try the Tampere version as well😀🇬🇧 Marko is an excellent vocalist and does a lot of singing. Troy the English guy on the pipes sings much more now Marko has left. Epica don't really blow me away I've tried but Simones a bit screechy and the guy on the guitar with a really harsh loud voice grates on my nerves. But that's it with music we like what we like and we are all different, thankfully or it would be a boring world.

    • @musikbyjh
      @musikbyjh  10 місяців тому +1

Thanks for this comment. Although, none of this is obvious to someone who is just watching it for the first time. Doesn’t matter if I watched this first, or for my 100th Nightwish reaction…I wouldn’t have gotten the meaning because that’s not how I listen to music. For some folks, the lyrics ARE the song. I’m the opposite. The lyrics are probably the last thing I care about. I’m a musician and composer….the music as whole is more important to me. The more I listen to songs, that’s when I start to grasp the meaning. But I have to like the music and composition first before I even care about the lyrics.

No big deal, just a song about the universe itself, plus Troy playing the Ullleann pipes which don't have a mouth piece like the more typical back pipes, and instead have a small bellows that you can see is under Troy's arm. By compressing the bellows it inflates that bag attached to the drones (more or less).

Again ??? Comparing the very best Floor with the absolute worst Simone. What kind of Audio engineer dosen´t recognize a singer out of tune out of pitch out of key many times and terrible falsetto? Simone is not just the worst singer in metal she´s the very worst in the world . The lack of self awereness is mindblowing . Maybe she dosen´t ear the music Epica put´s out. The same with James la Brie no self awareness. I wanted to leave a possitive comment but the truth is more important.
