So many content creators make a big deal about stepping away and post silly videos in the front seat of their cars talking about the channel. I appreciate seeing someone just go do what make them happy away from youtube, then when the urge caught them posting a good video like them. Sometimes less is more.
For many people, UA-cam is super accessible and by far in a way possibly the only place a chunk of your community will catch your content. I know its not super enticing to sink countless hours into a UA-cam video versus other avenues and pursuits that demand your time but i think i speak for alot of people when i say - Im very glad you choose to!
You do you, Daniel. I'd rather watch a great video every other month and completely immerse into it than looking at something you "just feel the need to" putting out. UA-cam isn't your job, your job's your job. I for myself am happy the way it is and look forward to new vids from new places as I go on my own spearfishing adventures. As I said: Just do you, no need for apologies or to explain yourself. Cheerio mate!
Bugger to hear you've not been enjoying YT as much lately, but awesome to hear you've been had plenty of spearfishing opportunities lately. That longish flesh looks pretty good. Would love to try it sometime!
Good to see new video from you channel! Daniel if I may offer a piece on advice about the lionfish as I have seen quite some accidents with this fish. Once you have it speared, grab with your left hand the head or the mouth and with the right hand, before killing it, use your knife to remove the top venomous spines from the dorsal fin. After kill it and then turn it around to remove the 2 from the pelvic fins and the last 3 from the anal fin. This sequence is reducing the risk as very often people are getting stung from spikes of the dorsal fins while killing it. Lastly, keep in mind that absurdly enough in Greece the red buoy can give you a fine if stopped by coast guards, only yellow buoy is allowed..
Your videos are a big reason why I started spearfishing they helped me begin and got me enthused about the whole thing. That being said don't do anything if your hearts not in it. Maybe once in a while when the mood strikes like this one, that way it doesn't feel like a grind, or like it takes away from anything. Cheers from across the pond.
Just got back from Greece yesterday, and I have to say the lionfish invasion is now the strongest I’ve ever seen (Saronic / Argolic). No matter how many you kill in one hole, four months later the hole is repopulated. It’s much worse than in the summer. Thanks for the ikejime flopper tip - I usually climb up the nearby rocks, and each lionfish takes approximately eight minutes to handle. I got stung for the first time this year while washing my hands on the sailboat after removing the spines with pliers (one tip got stuck on the other side of my finger) :D. Thanks, Dan, for sharing as always!
Great to have you back. Your videos helped me get hooked on spearfishing, get the right gear, mindset, techniques and enjoyment out of the process of learning a new sport. Always excited to see what you have to share. Looking forward to the next one.
Great to see you back, one of the best in the business and definitely miss you when you aren’t feeding us vids , especially when it’s all blown out and soupy and can’t get a real fix.
Looking forward to the updates. At your age you need to do what’s best for you and I think all of your followers will understand. Good luck in all of your future endeavors, bet it here or anywhere!!
Thanks for sharing this with us; so much better water than we had earlier in the week, on USA's Oregon coast-15 foot storm seas with 12 degree temperatures, high winds, and nobody going near the water!
You have a gift! Don’t think I’ve ever seen a miss, reload, and shot all in the same breath before. At least not on UA-cam. Always appreciate your videos and your success is will earned. Thank you Dan! All my support from Florida, USA.
Happy to watch a new video. The competition bug hooks. Here, once a year we do an open in which teams from anywhere participate. cheer up. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on all of your success outside of UA-cam! It has all ways been enjoyable watching you here but looking forward to seeing the series you're working on and will be happy to see any videos you share here in the future.
For what it’s worth, you were the guy who inspired me several years ago to get my SCUBA certification. Never spearfished, but the beauty of the ocean you shared inspired me. Thank you!
Really good video. It’s good to take a step back. I’m happy that you’re enjoying life one day at a time. Don’t stress too much! We have those lion fish here in Trinidad and they are super delicious. I didn’t even know you can eat them raw. I’m definitely going to try that next time. Thanks for the recipe!
In Greece thay call Amberjack "μαγιάτικο", the "May fish" that's high season for them. I was in south west Peloponnese last month and only saw smaller ones. But that speargun lenght reaaly resonated with me lol... I was out with my 75, doing agguato in the shallows, looking in holes, etc. I decided to do a couple of dives at 6-7m at the posidonia edge line, there comes a nice Dentex maybe 2kg, i shot him in the face but he was too far, my spear was so slow at that point that it just bounced off his cheek bones... Enraging... It's always a pleasure to watch your videos mate but you don't owe us anything, you have to do what is best for you! Wishing you the best.. Pietro
I can imagine what kind of a mindset working around the UA-camr "job" can inhibit. You do you Mann, enjoy life! I will miss quality spearfishing content like this though.
Nice to see you back. Always enjoy your content. I regularly share your diving for scallops video with friends. The BBQ scene at the end always leaves me hungry. It’s time to buy yourself a good travel kit for the kitchen bud! Just a 6” boning knife will do! And apparently a citrus rasp. Or just lean into the “making it work with airbnb utensils “ vibe. It’s all good 👍😊
Cheers Andy! I took a 6” boner (victorinox) last year on our road trip to Türkiye. Great for fish, useless for chopping things in the kitchen 🤣 I kind of need both for sure.
Ah duuuude. Come back to UA-cam ASAP! My absolute faves are just your basic vlog style back in England. Catch n cooks. Reminds me of the sort of dives I do but cool seeing how a pro approaches it
Congratulations on the Championship! You gotta do what brings you joy. Still a great video once in a while always beats a mediocre video every week. Keep diving!
Great to see you back! If you knew what a positive impact you have on those of us who are new to the sport, you’d feel less jaded about YT. Keep on doing what makes you happy, whatever happens.
Welcome back Dan, sounds you have been quite busy! Good on you, may hay while the sun shines. And a big congrats on the British champs you big number one you 😅
For a moment I thought it might be family kind of news and perhaps a special episode and a follow up in Oz 🙂 I get the UA-cam drag but whatever you choose has to be alright for you. Cheers mate.
Congratulations man to win the championship takes dedication and focus. I completely understand why we haven't seen you. But it is good to see you back
Now thats a coincidence! I was on a climbing and spearfishing holiday on the eastern Peloponnese in October, but never made it down to Zobolo from Kyparissi. And now I still can see how the sea is down there: Waaaaaay too many lionfish there too, it seems. I once counted 50 within 100m of coast and I gave up on killing them all.
Bro!!! You are like an old friend 😂 welcome, take your time we are all busy we understand, lionfish is one of my favorite it is venomous be aware of the dorsals and anals spikes once you cut em the fish is like any other. Do it with cappers, lemon, pepper olive oil and butter in a pan, like the french recipe. It is great!
I’ve always taken you as a quality over quantity type of guy, not racing to drop every Sunday with click bait titles etc and I think that’s what’s earned you such a good following. Great to see a new vid as always but I think your up there on the podium of spearfishing UA-cam content for that exact reason! Super interested to know if you think taking a step back and focusing on the comps you’ve found your skill level getting better at all? (Not that your a shit diver 😂) just having not to worry about filming it all, might have given some extra relaxation and focus?
Thanks Sven, appreciate it! Sticking to a schedule and making content for content sake is a good way to kill all joy that’s for sure. Filming always distracts you when spearfishing, especially in competitions. I figured if I wanted to give it my all I needed to remove all distractions. I quite enjoy the no camera spearfishing these days, just in the moment.
@ I always tell me friends who ask me about getting a GoPro to film while spearing, You can either live in the moment or relive the moment. They eventually get what I mean 😂
Sampatiki, just down from Tyros? My father has a holiday house very near there. I took my girlfriend there on holiday 2 years back, had a 65 cm plus dusky grouper on a spinning rod. Very nice quiet part of Greece 👍.
Hey Daniel, I have had ear infection 3 times between the first week of august and late october. Do you think it could be because of water pollution? Each time I have seen white ish "material" on the surface near the shore, and within 24 hours pain starts... On all occasions my mask was leaking a bit of water and my nose was full.
I’m not sure what causes them but I’d had some problems earlier in the summer. I keep antibiotic ear drops with them when diving now. First sign of any discomfort and I use them.
@DanielMann yep I also took paroticin ear drops with me this time and earplugs for shallow hunting. Maybe the ionian sea and the med in general has been polluted...
You wife is hard core Dan....just the top half wet suit gang. Funny we spent years in Egypt trying to get pictures of them in the Glass fish! Bloody things on night dives they would home in on the light and whack the small fish. I have a picture of a Medertian Scorpin fish off chesiel beach from 1995!
Great video as always! Just to inform you I follow almost all greek spearfishing channels here on YT and all of them use flashlight when searching for a grouper under rocks! I think it is not fair for you not to use one!

Spearfishing UA-cam just isn’t the same without you mate, had to start watching camping and line finishing videos. Not good at all
The world won't change without anyone
@user-abcdefgggfku I beg to differ the world would change without a lot of individual people.
AGREE!!!!!!
@@user-abcdefgggfku you ok there mate?
Am so glad to see you Daniel ! Most part of Peloponnesus is very much fished out I’m surprised you got some decent fish 🎉🎉🎉❤
15 minute long video with only 4 fish shot, yet still more engaging than most of the spearfishing compilations out there! Love your work Dan ❤
Thanks Ethan!

very smart using the serrated knife!
Necessity is the mother of all invention.
What was the name of the movie you said you made? Where can I stream it?
It's called Fishing The Wild and it will be season 4. Should air in the USA in February sometime and also on Apple TV and amazon dot com.
great to see u back : )
Hey which speargun is better the oceanammo reef90 or the c4 gladius85 which one is better can you please tell me?😊
Never used either sorry.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
In Greece, the torch is forbidden at night, but during the day, it is permitted, as far as I know.
Definitely not permitted at all for spearfishing although 99% of Greek divers still use them.
Can’t wait for Sardinia!
Loads of fun there!
Great video as always! Just to inform you I follow almost all greek spearfishing channels here on YT and all of them use flashlight when searching for a grouper under rocks! I think it is not fair for you not to use one!
Yes I see them all using it but I guess locals know their own risk a bit better than me.
@@DanielMann Its up to you to use it or not just why deny yourself a good catch and a beautiful footage for an inexistent obstacle
Daniel why not try diving on the island of Madeira is one of the best places to do spearfishing.
Hopefully next year
How can we find the tv show mate
Called fishing the wild on my outdoor TV in the USA, Apple TV or Amazon dot com.
Spearfishing europe during winter. Where would you go to. Have no issue diving under ice sheets
Canary Islands or Madeira. Anywhere you’re getting ice sheets there isn’t enough daylight to go diving.
i was about to not watch this till i saw the (yes this is a spearfishing video) lol
I gave up on clickbait titles a long time ago!
Dan, gotta tell ye I never gave it a single thought 😂
Likewise!
Good to see your face 😊
