    American here. I was lucky enough to see the Australian west coast. Cairns is the best kept secret in the world. From what I experienced (this was '96) great, fun, welcoming people. I swear in spots you all are more American than us. Beautiful women too.. My goodness..
    Thanks for the ideas. Fish tank is the opposite of no worries, but its fun, thanks for the info.

    I'm doing major fish room changes today, including separating larger betta fry from smaller, so even more variables, lol- I think I just accidentally released one extra tiny one into the community nano tank, although I think it looks more like a kubotai egg snuck into the spawning tub on a plant, we shall see- I have to make hard choices, giant betta with the cardinals, or scarlet badis? Etc. I need all the inspiration I can get, looking forward to watching.

    I just got a 20 gallon in the mail, I'm going for a more jungle look with the tank vegetation wise. Plus there will be a lot of hiding spots. I'm thinking about getting 6 killifish, or 9 green neon tetras, but I'm not 100% on a fish yet. My betta is already rooming with two mystery snails in a 10 gallon, and they get along very well, I havent had a single problem in 5 months now. But since the tank is so large, I want to fill it up a little bit and have a slightly bigger community tank.

    Having only ever had female betta and no experience of their males. I can say that I have kept them singularly but with other species. Including, platinum Medaka, endlers, guppies, Ottos, neocaridina shrimp, amano shrimp, nerite snails, gold and normal WCMM's, peppered corydoras, and platys with no problems at all. However they didn't like being with male swordtails (lots of nipping and chasing from both parties

    @4:30 that is a huge fat and sassy cory cat!!🤭 Too cute! I know this is an old vid, but I'm trying to figure what i might put in a 6g cube with a plakat make betta I picked up at my fish club. It's a smaller tank and he's a shorter fin (pretty fast) so I'm finding it hard to find buddie possibilities. Most vids have tetras, Cory's etc that need large numbers to thrive, I'm on the hunt for something that can be happy with smaller numbers as the tank is so small.
    Edit, you've also hooked me on whiptail cat fish! My son is setting up a 29g River type scape tank and we have anchor cats growing out in his other tank for the upcoming river. Would whiptail bully the little anchor cats I wonder???

    I love CPDS… but my veiltale ended up w damaged fins. I am guessing males were getting nippy when females spawning? Not sure but not much else could have done it. I gave them the 10 gallon and got a new for the betta. May get some neons ..

    Nice video as usual Blake. One question -- do you really think Bristlenose Plecos clean the glass? In my experience they cause more of a mess than they clean because of substrate stirring. And as far as I know they eat wood. I haven't noticed them clean glass. But I also haven't kept them for 5+ years so maybe I just forgot.

      Absolutely I do, maybe not very difficult to remove green spot algae, but definitely softer algaes and diatoms

    Great video Blake. My female betta is currently housed with some ember tetras and they get along great. However, I'm soon moving the embers to a larger, longer tank so I can get a few more and see some better schooling behaviours. What kind of water parameters would you recommend for mystery snails? My betta tank also has a nerite snail which I'm also going to relocate to my hard water guppy tank as - after reading up - I've realized the water in the betta tank is a bit too soft for it and it'is probably a bit unfair keeping it where it is now. However, it does add a good bit of character to the tank and really helps with algae control and I'd hate to leave my betta with no "friends", would a mystery snail be a better option for softer water?

    • @BlakesAquatics
      @BlakesAquatics  3 роки тому +1

      Hmm not really, though it depends on what is making the water hard, if it has no minerals except calcium, and is ph 6.8 that would be fine, but if its oh 7.4 made up of minerals other than calcium theyd probably both be unhappy

    • @iainlindsay211
      @iainlindsay211 3 роки тому +1

      @@BlakesAquatics Good answer and makes a lot of sense thanks. The guppy tank hardness is buffered using Seachem Brackish Salts. It sits at around 7ph and fairly high gh (22). The guppies thrive in it, as do the amanos that are in with them. Unfortunately Seachem are - kind of annoyingly - very tight lipped about the mineral compostion of the product. I've managed to garner that it is relatively low in actual sodium chloride (specific gravity doesn't even hit 1.003), though other than magnesium I've not been able to garner what else it consists of.
      Might just leave the nerite in with the betta then as I've seen no sign of shell damage, plus she has laid plenty of eggs in the tank which I'm taking as a sign she must be in reasonably good health. Thought I'd check as I'd hate to think she's suffering and I find snails can't really "tell" you like fish or shrimp can through their behaviours.

      @BlakesAquatics  3 роки тому +1

Also have 3 albino 4 emerald and 3 peppered Cory's a blue guppy a fire tailed guppy a fancy guppy and 2 common guppies with a gold mystery snail to top it off. Sometimes the betta will chase the guppies but otherwise goes all over the tank and doesn't mind the other fish
