- KITCHEN UPGRADE ON A BUDGET 2021 | BAR STOOLS BEFORE & AFTER | Style Mom XO
Hey guys welcomes back to Style Mom XO
In today’s video I am sharing how we took our old dark kitchen barstools and made them into modern coastal in style barstools. We are loving this easy and affordable kitchen update. I felt like my kitchen was missing something. So taking what we already had that was old and outdated and re-stained them and re upholstering them did just what we needed. It gave the kitchen a warm feeling that it was missing.

Wow......gorgeous new bar stools...LOVE!!!
Thank you
Great change on the bar stools. The back of the stools looks like curly maple, hence the stripes after staining. The darker stripes are slightly endgrain and absorb more stain.
Love this!!!❤❤ I am so impressed and inspired! My sister gave me her old bar stools but I'd updated my kitchen so they're in the shed. I'm going to get them and change them to match!!! Thanks soooooo much!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
🤗
They came out great!!! They look like driftwood, they’re perfect!
Thank you so much
The glow up is so satisfying! 😍
Thank you
Great job on the bar stools! They turned out fabulous!
As for your sewing tools... 🥰 My Mom used to sew all of our clothes when I was small, so I’m pretty familiar with the sewing tools. Your tomato is a pin cushion for your pins and needles (pins are the ones with the balls). The little strawberry hanging from the tomato is where you can sharpen the pins and needles! There’s sand or something in there! The little blue tool is just called a seam ripper. You did a fabulous job on sewing! 🥰🥰🥰
What!?!? I had no idea you could sharpen your needle!
Right!? When I found that out, my mind was blown! 😂 I just looked at my Mom like she had completely changed my entire life! 😂
Thank you so much for this!!! I had no idea you could sharpen your pins and needles! I'm going to find one TUHDAY!!!
I like the chairs, great team work! 👏🏻
Thank you
I was trying to think of it and tada....a seem ripper for the metal thingy and the tomato is a pin cushion. It came to me! Loved the video. I have an equally ‘fancy’ sewing kit!!
Gotta love a good “fancy” sewing kit 🤗
Stools look fabulous!!!
Thank you
The transformation is stunning! The integrity of your bar stools is better than what is available today. Hard work paid off! ❤
Thank you
They turned out so good! What a transformation!!!
Thank you
They came out beautiful !!!
Thank you
The chairs turned out amazing, so cool, well done :)
Thank you
That was amazing!! What a transformation! They go with the floors so perfectly. Your description of your sewing tools was charming.
Thank you. 🤗
I love that you repurposed what you already had. A lot of work, but they turned out custom and amazing! 😍
Thank you and yes so happy we have held on to them
Love them they are beautiful!
Thank you
California coastal in Arizona, makes sense LOL...yes the bar stools are a good upgrade for the new vibe and colors match your couches
Hey I am a California girl living in Arizona so it makes sense to me 😂😂😂😂
Wow - they turned out great.
Thank you
It's called a seam ripper, I call it a tomato also but it's a pin cushion. The bar stools look amazing lady!!!! Y'all done a great job!
Thank you. I am so happy my husband made me keep the bar stools and he was able to stain them. He is the best!
They turned out great
Thank you
Hi. Tomato = Pincushion. Fancy dancy thing = seam ripper. Love the way the chairs turned out. You have inspired me to redo my barstool legs. I don’t think my husband is too happy.
Your hubby is going to say you need to stop watching my channel 😂

It looks beautiful! I love the driftwood. It matches the decor to the tee.
Great job, Kim... I’m proud of you n your husband does some serious talented work.
Enjoy every bit.
Thank you. My hubby really does an amazing job. Super blessed to have him 💖
My husband is a upholster, he said you two did a good job. For future projects he uses a steamer on the old foam and it puffs up the foam. They look beautiful.
Oh my gosh tell him thank you so much. He has a hard job 😂. It took me a long time to do the tops then the corners on the bottom part my husband and I had a hard time, but got them done lol. Thanks for the tip on the foam!!!!
The stools came out beautifully..gracias for our little Myles fix 💞
You are welcome and thank you
Just a great job! Thank you.
Thank you
Great job! Your home is lovely!

Thank you so much. I just prayed they turned out good lol
You guys did a phenomenal job! They fit your aesthetic perfectly!!!
Thank you so much
Wow what a big difference the chairs came out awesome
Thank you
Your husband makes sanding look so easy. It’s the worst step in remodeling furniture for sure. They turned out amazing.
He used to help is dad with his painting business on the weekends and summers growing up. So sanding is one thing he always did. 🤗
Loving it all!
Thank you
Love them good job!
Thank you
It looks beautiful, what a big difference. Are your fingers sore? You done a great job. They look like a professional job. Your husband does fantastic work. He's a very calm person. I love them.
No my fingers were not sore. I was shocked
Wow they look great! Now u have lol custom custom bar chairs.
I know hand sewed bar stools lol
the chairs look awesome, great job with the hand sewing, that can be tricky. I love the colours you chose and how the stools match your other furniture pieces
I was so scared the lines would have been all over the place doing hand sewing lol
Wow! What a transformation, you guys did an awesome job!
Thank you so much
Love the bar stools they look like brand new!! 👏🏼👏🏼🥰
Thank you. I thought the same thing
Awesome job!!
Thank you
You are so cute💖 you should be very proud of yourself. It is nerve wrecking to do a project that everyone is going to see. It’s a lot of pressure. But you and your husband did GREAT!!! P.S. I have the same sewing tools, I’ve had them since I was 15, they are aged to perfection haha and I’ve always kept them in an old hat box but I just recently changed to a double size butter cookies tin, it’s modern old school haha
Thank you so much.
You’re welcome! I can’t wait to see more upgrade 💖
Wow the after is so much better than the before!! Looks high end! Amazing job!
Thank you
First of all Kimberley you are so cute and you made me laugh so much about the sewing tools. LOL The first one is a pin cushion and the second one is a seam ripper. Needles with a ball on the end are pins.
Those chairs turned out so great!!! Great way to get more life out of the expensive barstool.
Hi MILES!!!! You are a Cutie Patootie!!!! 🐾💓🐾
Miles says Hi.
I am like I have no clue what this stuff is called lol
@@_KimberlyHalle lol 💕
Try to move the other console you have in the little room with the four chairs to your living room and move the black one to the room with the four chairs. I think it goes better with the style you want.
We actually want to keep the black in the living room to help keep that modern vibe. Since we have black at the stairs too
Wow they came out amazing! Great job!
Thank you
Wow awesome!
Great job Kimberly & Big Dee! The first thing I noticed was what a perfect match to your sofa table.
Even before you said it. Definitely get some kind of wood bowl for your island. That would look so good. Hobby Lobby has them. I love the way you saved money and repurposed what you had! You Go Girl!
Thank you so much. Yes for sure on the look out for a few kitchen items
🙏🏻💕 Love the bar stools- perfect. You both did an awesome job. Thanks for the Miles fix.
Thank you so much
I love the bar stool makeover!! Our dining table is a cross between the gray and wood color and it's honestly one of my fave pieces in our home! It ended up matching with Wall mirrors I got over 5 years before the dining set 😆
Well that worked out perfect then!!! 🤗
@@_KimberlyHalle I know,!! It proved to me that I do have a specific style afterall 😉
Your tomato is a pin cushion. I
Have the same container but it
is older than yours, I love it. I did
get a I call it a double decker
from Target in green, but separates
the thread and notions. Your marido. did a beautiful job on the chairs.
...M❤M of 5
Very cool! I got mine back in 2003 and I have never needed anything bigger so the box stays. 😂.
Wow! You and your husband did a great job! He’s got patience and that’s lovely. Your son helping you record sounds adorable. Love your floors. What are they?
Wowww very nice 👍 you did a great job 👏🏻👍👏🏻
Thank you
I love how they turned out!!
Thank you
Can you please tell me the exact name of your fabric and where you purchased? I love it! I have been searching high and low for fabric to reupholster our dining room chairs and keep coming up with nothing. Thank you so much and by the way they turned out fabulous!
I got it at hobby lobby in the big roll section. I would have to find the receipt to find if it had a number on it
Great job!!!
Thank you
Great job! You and your husband nailed it! I loved your sewing terminology....LOL! You used a seam ripper to take the seams out of your old chair fabric. You used straight pins to pin the new fabric and you used a needle to sew! But, telling you that, what you said is correct too! Have an awesome day!
Ohhh straight pins. 😂. Thank you so much 💖
I love your description on how to sew. lol you and your son are so funny.😆😆
Thank you 🤗😂
So Beautiful Kimberly
You & your husband did a amazing job. ❤ How they match the new table you got
Thank you
I absolutely love they way these turned out, I have been trying to find the same stain tone at my local hardware stores and haven’t found it, any idea what other brands have the exact same tone ?
Well done on the chairs ❤️
Thank you
@@_KimberlyHalle Welcome
Looks amazing ! Wow!
Thank you
They turned out so good.. you did and amazing job. It's a seem ripper and a pin cushion. You were so cute though.
Thank you. Yes I am learning all the correct terms from my wonderful subscribers 🤗
Love the stain on the bar stools! Perfect match to your living room table. Just lovely!
Thank you
@@_KimberlyHalle How soon till you have your husband sanding down the dining room table???? His work is absolutely gorgeous!
Haha no we love the dining table as is. No changing that. He really does do a great job. He grew up helping his dad on weekends and summers sanding and painting. His dad had his own painting business. So he learned from the best💖
Looks great! It's called a pin cushion and you stick the pins and sewing needles in it. Love that fabric!
😊 thank you so much we love the fabric too
Love the bar stools fantastic job they certainly match in with everything else. Love your home its beautiful. Xx
Thank you

The stools look beautiful!!
Thank you
The chairs look so so good. I also laughed when you were like "not seashells " Side note- I never understood seashells in a bathroom- that was big for a long time.
That is funny
Love how your stools came out, I need me some lol I been looking for some too and can’t find anything that I like and when I see yours now I want them lol. You guys have such a beautiful home.

Thank you
I didn’t read the comments but the little thing with a blue handle is a seam ripper. The tomato thing is a pin cushion 💝
Yes everyone is telling me. I knew my subscribers would come through and let me know 🤗💖
Great job. Little pillow tool is a seam ripper and the “tomato” is a pin cushion😃
Thank you
15:37 it’s called a seam ripper 😁
The Tomato looking thing is called a pin cushion. The other sharp looking thing, is called a seam ripper! You guys did a great job.
Thank you
❤️Nice!! You & your hubby did a great job! ❤️🐾🐾❤️
Thank you
They look so good!
Thank you
Great job! They are gorgeous! Next time you upholster, there is no reason you would need to remove the old fabric unless it shows through the new fabric or has a smell or something. It would have made your job much easier to leave it and just cover over it.
We thought about that but the back piece was already tight so if we added another layer we were afraid it wouldn’t have slipped into place
