- 当那一天来临, When That Day Comes. Now this is one of my favourite Chinese PLA songs, and you can tell by the fact that I've actually made a video for it. Granted this is not the first English and Pinyin subtitled MV on UA-cam, but that other one, well, it's...not good.
Now, about this awesome song, yeah sure there's the whole "drop the Soviet stuff be more Chinese" argument, but you have to admit, a good ol' Soviet-style choir from time to time still works magic. Especially since Russia, well, no longer makes works like this. (I could very well be wrong, but so far I have not been able to find any new works...with the notable exception of that song from RA3, which by all means is the ONLY good thing that came out of the horrendous EA game)
The PLA General Political Department Propaganda Department (总政治部宣传部, a mouthful indeed) issued a notice to all military units and the general public in November 2004 searching for "marching songs that demonstrate the military's fighting spirit", and this is one of the 25 out of 236 that made it into the final of the contest in June 2005 and eventually became an official PLA march. A pretty cool mechanism for finding new songs, you'll have to admit. The Propaganda Department has its smart.
Now this 2005 song is definitely done old school, with the Soviet-style choir and all. But take a closer look at its lyrics and you can see this is clearly from what I call the "post-Cultural Revolution" period: the lyrics moves away from the "Party, Chairman, and Revolution" jargons and emphasizes more on the universal ideas of motherland and victory. And the theme of "when that day comes" is just plain brilliance in the artistic sense: it is the 21st century, the Cold War is over, it is peacetime now, and we don't look for trouble, but if trouble comes to us, when that day comes, we're not afraid to fight back. It all comes back to the good ol' “人不犯我 我不犯人 人若犯我 我必犯人” adage.
There are certainly other performances of this song, including one by the our current First Lady Peng Liyuan (and by all means she will probably remain our First Lady for a loooong time). But I personally likes this PLA Choir version the best...cuz, Soviet-style, you know.

People, I love the song so much I wrote the Russian version. I tried to save the song spirit and I followed English lyrics quite appropriate. If someone understand Russian the person will like it, I take seriously Russian language tradition in verses.

Agree. "Finally" connotes an inevitability... which we hope that won't happen. But when it "really" happens, we will stare it at its eyes and take on the enemies!
