      DaaaahWhoosh, ... LindyBeige seems to be a man of peace, with a knowledge about ancient warfare. ... He doesn't see like a person that would want to shoot anyone. ... Though of course as a devotee of music, LindyBeige could enjoy shooting apart accordions, as they were being played by Frenchmen.

      I've only ever used cheap rifles and the maximum distance I've shot at is about 300 yards. Trust me, just hitting the target at that range is difficult.

      Thing is that rifles tend to only be precise up to certain ranges, and K98 was actually a short carabine version of the Gewher 98 so it would have had a shorter range due to its shorter barrel it works for its main purpose which was a main infantry weapon for mostly medium range fighting, which is where a rifle without special optics or special ammo works best, to be perfectly honest I don't believe the I shot a target bull's-eye at 800 yards either, taking into account that it's effective range with ironsights clocks at around 550 yards

      Erasus The inner ring has iirc a diameter of 10cm. The A target supports a max of 5, 10 or 100 points. If the 100 points system is used this would be 96ish. The diopter of the Stgw90 also can only adjust for 10cm per klick. The B target has two zones outside a figure, a figure hit 3 points and the center has a diameter of 20cm.

      Actually they were regularly fired. The Swiss who are presently conscripted are required to visit a range once a week and fire at least 100rds per trip. They were also regularly used in the field. My K-31 has a rough stock thanks to this, but the bore is mirror because the Swiss pioneered the use of non-corrosive primers and cupro-nickel jacketing. Also the powder leaves almost no fowelling.

Stricter gun control would cause a lot more problems anyways. For instance, it would lessen mass shootings but increase crime due to the fact that 2.5 million crimes a year are stopped by gun owners. The problem is a lot more complex than it appears to onlookers from other countries. Seriously, stay out of our business.

    Hey Lindy. Just as an FYI if you're not aware. The K31 is quite popular in America, able to nab one for $400 or so. The Swiss kept them in excellent condition so straight out of surplus they are ready to fire and very accurate. Surplus ammo is also available which is very good and consistent. That rifle should be about as good as they come, even Mauser's and 1903's aren''t quite as nice as that rifle, although the K31 was designed decades after them.

      Geordie Walker I don't know why there are so many anti gun comments on a shooting video. Europeans think shootings happen in the US all the time because of what they see on TV. The average annual mass shooting death rate in the US is about 70 a year which is very small in a country of over 300 million and there are many US States that have guns but no mass shootings and you can literally count the amount of murders in the state.

      To all the triggered 12 year olds replying, I'm not saying that the accessibility of guns is the cause of the problem, not at all, it is the culture, a culture that Europe and Australia and New Zealand lack, and thus don't have a problem with gun violence. Taking away the guns may prove to help, but I don't know, it may not. What I am essentially cross about at the people in the comments is their calling of people who do not have a gun culture BECAUSE THEY DON'T NEED ONE cucks, that's a really odd and rather harmful attitude.

After your service are you required by law to keep your service Rifle. I don't know about you but after leaving grade school to a Free place to live and having all my needs provided for where I get trained in combat and any other number of skills whilst being paid and then after I leave I can start my life and they let me keep the rifle they gave me sounds like a pretty good deal considering you have a VERY small chance of actually being put into a war. conscription sounds like the best thing ever for someone just getting out of high school(if you live in switzerland at least).

      I'am swiss, i was in the swiss army and i can tell you one thing. This claim is bullshit. There is no such law. Never was.
      It's possible to keep the service rifle at the end of the mandatory service, yes. But there isn't any requirement to do so. Actually if you want to keep it, you have to have a firearms permit which you have to pay for to get one and you have to do a more or less symbolic payment of about 100$ to the army and they will convert the service rifle to semi auto only. The other option is to simply give it back to the army with all the other equipment which about 75% of the retiring soldiers actually do.

    • @105rgh
      @105rgh 7 років тому +31

      It's quite simple. There are well-defined standards for the "cone of fire" (google for the British Army's JSP403, Range Construction Guidelines, available as a free PDF online). You decide what positions you want to certify the range for and have a cone coming out of your muzzle of a specified angle (larger if you want to shoot standing since more error is assumed, smaller for prone). You then extend that cone out to the appropriate distance and anything inside the circle needs to be clear.
      The house is evidently outside the cone of fire. This is not surprising - target shooters are not expected to leave the target (Lloyd's first shot as a total novice was a 5 - so comfortably "on target"). One range I shoot on has fines for missing the target and marking the concrete safety wall. Only one person has hit the concrete in the last 5 years and that was a mechanical fault.
      It's a hell of a lot safer than a lot of (not all) US shooting (shooting off into the desert, or the idea that you need to wear high-vis when hunting to avoid shooting other people - whatever happened to positively identifying your target before firing?)

    • @acealtiier584
      @acealtiier584 7 років тому +9

      That makes sense I suppose and I see your point, I shoot competitively here in the US and am familiar with cones of fire and range safety procedures, though when it comes to building target ranges I think a redundancy when it comes to safety makes sense. I don't think it would've been too complicated to construct a range without any structures immediately behind it and considering the mountains depicted all around you wouldn't have to put much effort into constructing a burm to catch any stray rounds. Regardless of the experience of the shooters and range safety officers, accidental discharges, ricochets and the occasional blunders of an idiot are a somewhat regular hazard of the sport and I think should be to a certain extend counterbalanced in the construction of the facility.
      As for wearing bright orange clothing when hunting. I couldn't agree more, the hunter safety courses (at least in my area, Eastern North Carolina) are pathetic. Many people choose to pay a lump sum fee for their children's lifetime Hunting & Fishing licenses when they are very young (as it is significantly cheaper) and at that age the children are very probably uninterested in the already simplified course. After completion, there are often little to no requirements for renewal. It definitely needs work.

      "a lot safer than a lot of US shooting"
      I'm sorry but I'm going to be frank with you. Bullcrap. This sort of thing would never fly in the United States. "cone of fire" my ass. What about misfires? My grandfather always taught me when handling a rifle you should be aware of any and all structures within, at the very, very least, a mile away from the direction you are pointing, and have a large backstop. Every range I've been to has usually been into the side of a mountain, with certainly no buildings DIRECTLY above the range!
      And what are you even on about with the high-vis clothing? Target identification is the whole dang point of it, you want to make it easier on everyone. You aren't going to see whitetail deer wearing bright orange are you?
      I watched a video similar to this in hunter's safety course years ago. ua-cam.com/video/GIgJ9D5777s/v-deo.html
      Some of the situations seem silly and obvious, however the situation at 3:12 may not be as obvious in real life as it is in this video. While totally camouflaged at a distance this hunter in the tree stand may go unobserved, even if the other hunter checks the background of his target. Wit ha single high-vis band it would become much easier.

    Beutiful rifle! Love the K31's straight pull action. I never had the chance to take one for a spin at the range, but I've been very intrigued.
    Great video even more amazing view o.O !! Can't wait to see the rest of your adventure!

    The target system is pretty awesome. The house directly behind and above the targets not so much.

      Heimat Europa From personal expirience with the now standard issue sig 550 it is pretty much impossible to miss by that much unless extremly carless. Eg. release the seafty to early, putting a finger in the trigger before beeing on the target and ready.
      Im more surprised that they just let him shoot like that. Bloke must be known there and a pretty expirienced shooter otherwise they would not have let him shoot with lindy.

    Honestly if you can get the hang of shooting an air rifle accurately switching to a firearm is easier to learn.
    Gun powder is more consistent than compressed air so the shots tend to be more predictable.
    Switzerland is a good place to learn but I grew up in Texas so it's common place here.

    "That's our target.. And if you miss a little bit... That's somebody's house." Best line ever
