- For a long time I was confused about the difference between Deen and Mazhab. Then I read Quran and it instantly clarified the difference between Deen and Mazhab. I wanted to share what I learnt with you.

All monotheistic religions are considered islam according to Quaran as long as the believers embrace all prophets, Islam with capital ‘I’ is the version with sharia sent through the Prophet (PBUH). Kaafir is a quranic term (istalah) specifically used for the non-believers at the time the prophet who rejected him according to Farahi discourse. It cannot be used for non-muslims of present. At best they are non-muslims. But according to quran, to Allah, the only deen is islam, the message sent through all prophet is the same. The Sharia varies and co existed even in Madina at the time of the prophet but only one religion. You’ll find Sura Baqarah, al e imran and al inaam helpful in this regard. But essentially you can look at quran and islamic studies from a traditional/ literalist or a modernist perspective. Farahi discourse is unique in that it presents and different interpretation.

دین کے اندر جب بندہ خود پندرہ بیس مذاہب بنا لے اس دعوے کے ساتھ کہ انتشار نہ ہو۔ تو پندرہ بیس مذاہب تو خود انتشار کی جیتی جاگتی مثال ہیں۔

These are some good points but God made it clear in surah Al imran verse 3:19. The reason is that previous deens were manipulated by kings, churches and those who had authority. Thats why the final testimont is Islam and the previous name was deen e hanif. Thus, Islam is the only religion/deen accepted insight of Allah.

(Divorce) Talaq from male side and Khulla is from the female side. The interesting thing is this system is only in Islam, later other religions and countries follow the Islamic rules and later they are implemented in their holly books 📚 and made counties laws.
1765 Thomas Jefferson bought the Quran in the UK and put it in his law library and translated in different languages where all the great leaders read the Quran including Napoleon Bonaparte.
In the USA the supreme court also uses 18 different Laws which they took from the Quran.
Please read the book 📚 name is ( Faces of Muhammad) written by professor (John Tolan) professor of history, University of Nantes, France. He research 30 years. I hope you like the book.

The words Deen and Madhab are entirely different from each other with regard to their underlying concepts. Although in our part of the world we generally refer to Islam as Madhab (religion), yet what is interesting indeed is the fact that the word Madhab has never once been used in the entire treasury of the Quranic text and Ahadeeth literature! Instead, the word that has almost always been used for Islam in the original sources is Deen.
The fundamental difference between the two terms must be understood. Madhab, or religion, is a term used for a set of beliefs and rituals of worship. On the other hand, Deen refers to an entire way of life that pervades all aspects of life. In other words, as compared to Madhab, Deen is a far more comprehensive, all-encompassing reality. With this backdrop, it will perhaps not be entirely correct to say that Islam is not a Madhab (religion), because all of the elements of a Madhab are certainly part and parcel of Islam - it includes the articles of belief, spirituality, and the etiquettes of worship (Salah, Saum, Zakah and Hajj). Hence, it would be more accurate to say that Islam is not merely a Madhab, but an entire code of life (Deen). It not only offers whatever constitutes religion, but is endowed with the elements of a complete way of life. Hence, Islam is, essentially, Deen.
In this context, it must also be understood that while several religions can co-exist at a time in a particular region of the world, there can only be a single Deen (way of life). It is not possible, for instance, for capitalism and communism to coexist in a country at the same time. Only one will be dominant and prevail over others. Similarly, monarchy and democracy cannot simultaneously be established in a country. A system can either be based on the law of Allah (swt), or it will be against the law of Allah (swt). There cannot be two parallel systems, although there can be several religions co-existing at a time in a certain place. The only exception can be made in the case of a single dominant system ascendant above all, subservient to which, all shrunken up and sidelined, may exist other systems. Allama Iqbal said: “In a state of enslavement, it is reduced to a single, small droplet / The very same life which, when freed, becomes a ceaseless, shoreless torrent!”
When Deen is subjugated, it is reduced to mere religion. At the high point of Islamic history, Islam was the single dominant system, under which existed Christianity, Judaism, Magianism and other creeds as religions. They were given this allowance on the clearly laid out condition to pay a nominal tax (Jizya) and accept their subservience to the ascendant system, as said in Surah At-Taubah: “Fight… until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” (At-Taubah 9:29)
The law of the land shall be Allah’s (swt), and the dominant system will be Islam, but as far as personal law and private life was concerned, they were free to live according to their own beliefs and practices. However, during the period of the decline and downfall of the Islamic state, the situation was entirely reversed. It will not be wrong to say that in the Indian subcontinent, the dominant system of life belonged to the British. Hence, Islam in the subcontinent was reduced to mere religion - Muslims could pray as they wished, and the British never objected to that; they could declare the call for prayer from the mosques, and they could marry and inherit according to their religious laws, but the state law had to be none other than British, according to the dictates of the British Crown, without interference from the local people. This is exactly what Iqbal expressed in his verse: “Since the Mullah (cleric) in India is allowed to prostrate in prayer / He foolishly thinks it implies his freedom.”
In other words, Islam was not free, but had shrivelled up and been reduced to the level of a mere religion among many.
Deen is essentially that which dominates and pervades. If it is subjugated, it will no longer remain Deen, but will be reduced to Madhab. Its true character will be distorted. If studied from this angle, it becomes clear that no matter how great a system, if it is presented merely as a vision and idea, or presented in the form of a written treatise, it can at best be an idealistic utopia, but can never truly be a criterion, a standard, or a benchmark. It can become a decisive criterion for the whole of mankind to judge and live by only when it is brought into practice, established and fully implemented.

very good thought about deen and mzhab. In my view Mazhab isnt sub branche of Deen, as you said Imam Malik, Abu Hanifa etc they are fiqh not mazhab as they make rules based on whats mentioned in Quran and Hadit. Mazhab is what is mentioned in the quran(basis of all fiqh as they cannot contradict with it) and it tells us about namaz, roza, zakat, haj, tauheed so you can say we all follow rules from quran as we follow mazhab e islam as individuals but deen is to implement it as whole in society or in country including social/economic/financial rules. We cannot say we have Deen e islam as code of conduct for Pakistan and its citizens as our constitution has so many rules against deen e islam.

They wrote according to the wisdom and exposure they had during those times, change is universal truth, anything which does not embrace change rot and become suffering for humankind. Today's constitution is new religion and amendments in it reflects change people need with time.

I have listened to Javed Ghamdi and dr israr. former would agree to you 100% but later would agree to you 80%. Dr israr believed the distinction between Deen and religion is superficial but not without a function. As a colonial legacy religion has been reduced to mere ibadat. the amali part is missing so to bring back the Amali part we need to stress that deen and religion are different. this is to create fear of following incomplete deen thereby striving to establish the deen.

Sir actually the word 'deen' has several meanings in arabic and it's meaning is determined by the context it is coming in. In the surah you recited it means 'mazhab'.
Furthermore Islam was not the religion created or initiated by Muhammad SAW,but it was right there from the beginning of humanity. All the religions in the world are likely to be the tempered form of the original islam.
The prove that religions other than islam are not in there true form is that we can not even trace the exact era of many of these religion so how can we believe that they are fully preserved. In the case of christianity and Judaism, they themselves accept the bible today was not given by the Jesus or Moses,but instead it was the understanding of some of their students. That is why this is also a debate within Christianity regarding which bible is most close to the teachings of jesus. Whereas in the case of Quran it was written and preserved by the muhammad SAW in his lifetime and we even know the exact era and time of almost every single part of the Quran.
The things I have written about christianity may be wrong as I haven't studied the christianity myself so do correct me if I am wrong.

yes u misunderstood the word deen... in surah yusuf word of deen is also used to describe the law of land. see surah 12 verse 76

To better understand the concept of deen please go through different tafseers from different time periods, just translations are not enough. you can also see the works of the likes of Nouman Ali Khan, Dr Israr and etc. You may not agree to their understanding but it always good to have different view points.

Congratulations. The last Ayat ie for everyone. Here Allah prohibit everyone doesn't interfere any one school of thoughts including your Parents/ Friends/ Children/ Neighbours. It's entirely your private/ personal affair. If Pakistanis follow this Ayat, all problems will solve automatically. So courageously explained.
Agreed! But, the reason is that extend the true message of Allah to everyone, and that is there is no God but Allah and Prophet Muhammad SAW is the last messenger of Allah.
Respect your opinion but I guess you've taken incomplete message from the Chapter. The last verse refers to the scenario showed in earlier part. This is for Non Muslims. Applying directly to Muslims and relatives is unjust

@@armaghansaeed838 With due respect, but Quran is contextual book. You should not even read any ayat of Quran without a context and no one seems to talk about the context of this Surah 109. Dr. Taimoor sahb is too misquoting it, this surah is talking about disbelievers of Makkah, who after alot of preaching by Prophet Muhammad (saw) have not accepted the true message. So Allah tells the Prophet (saw) to go to these disbelievers and tell them exact wordings as we read in this Surah.
Sir it's a humble request to interview Engr MA Mirza & ask specifically about the God being compassionate merciful & kind. Why some of His creation is denied to live happily, why we've to rely on the unseen heaven. Engr says that NO ONE CAN Q God, then how come God claims to be good. If God is all good then He's not all powerful or if God is all powerful then He's not all good because there's so much tyranny Injustice chaos & evil things happened to good people.

Misinterpretation! Taqleed is mashtaq from word “qalada” means collar of dog or animals. Means your chain is in someone hands who can control you. Means Clergy and monarchy of religion, Power.
