    I think I have watched five of your videos to date. I’ve always had tension problems. Watching you warp has given me some ideas of how I can change my process to improve the tension. Thank you!

    I could watch these videos all day!! Such beautiful talent. I wish someone near me had a loom I could practice on.

    Andy, I can't wait to see what you are going to make next, woot! I am so glad this art has not been lost like so many others and you truly are a craftsman. Thanks for taking the time to show us this wonderful art, blessings, :D

      Pam, the next bit of weaving, although not the entire project is done, but I need to take a bit more time with editing the video. I am trying, to figure out how to explain the process to "non-weavers" and it is proving harder to do than I had thought.

      Lol, I bet Andy. I try to follow you and since I am a knucklehead at this, I seem to miss something, but the video is wonderful. It makes perfect sense to me when I watch it, hugs my friends, xxx

    This is so helpful. It is turning a tremendous mystery into a step by step explanation. I am now tempted to move up from a rigid heddle loom to this kind...thank you.

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  9 років тому

      oscilis Thanx for your kind comments. The move from rigid heddle to a multi-shaft loom is big, and yes can be expensive depending on what kind of multi-shaft loom you get, but also very rewarding in both what you learn to do and in what you actually weave. My only suggestion is take your time and think about what you want to do, research the available looms, find out what you feel comfortable with before you buy. If you can afford to take one or two classes where you can try out a few different looms before buying, that is a very worthwhile thing for you to do so that when you do "move up" you will be more satisfied that you have the best loom for what you want.

    I think you have good ideas!
    As I get older, I need more reminders around me when I'm weaving. The
    Chart is another Great Idea of yours!
    Now back to watching... :-)

    Interesting that you have the draft starting from the right in Fiberworks but you are threading from the left.
    We always thread from the left to right when sitting at the front of the loom. This is the north England way. The Scottish way is to thread from the right to the left based on their way that the first thread from the warp comes into the right hand first heald eye when seen from the back of the loom.
    I keep wondering if Fibreworks can be made to start at the left of the draft?
    I am a professional weaver and play with overshot ideas a lot.
    Thanks you for posting this video, its a real bonus to pass on to people.

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  4 роки тому

      If I could figure out how to get the fiberworks to go from L2R instead of R2L, I would do it that way. I thread L2R because being right handed it is just more comfortable for me. Once I have the entire draft, I just read it L2R, the same way I read books or anything else.

    Oh my you answered me. Thanks so much for your quick reply. I do get handwoven in the mail and have for a number of years. I have done a overshot but used a floating selvedge with no tabby. I know it wasn't the right way of doing it but it came out really nice. I could not for the life of me how to do the tabby but that was before internet came along and it was a 10 inch wide and three feet long table runner. I made it for my mother who is know longer alive. It still looks great it just isn't right . You have a great Thanksgiving and thanks again for your answer. I couldn't figure out how to post a picture to you. I tried to copy and paste but it didn't work. Please keep posting I love your channel. Ted Wizorek P.S. I have been weaving off and on for 30 years I am 61 and moved from north to south to retire and be close to my grandkids.

    Thankyou... do you warp in a section at a time take it off and thread the heddles then warp the next section etc? I could warping a full gamp pattern was nerve racking when using 3 colors and 3 threads at a time.

  • @dawn32
    @dawn32 4 роки тому

    Hi, Thank you for pointing out where I could find the pattern. I am so glad I found it. But what I do not understand is that the warp and the weft have the same weight in the pattern in the Handwoven issue 170. I see that you use a double thread for the weft. What I have understood about overshot so far is that the weft threads should be twice as heavy as the warp threads. Do you think it will be alright if I use 10/2 cotton for the warp and 5/2 cotton for the weft? Otherwise..., is it really possible to use the same weight for warp and weft? B.t.w.... I do not think that you are really a curmudgeon.., that is a joke, right? Best whishes, Dawn

    Andy, you totally lost me with the words "today I'm working on warping up my loom." Still, I know what you're doing here is creative, tasteful and elegant! I've seen your finished pieces before and they're downright beautiful. I'm going to stay tuned in until you complete your project.

    Do you normally tie up backwards eg left to right but following the pattern right to left?

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  3 роки тому

      yes - but to me it is not backwards, it is just the way I do it. Kind of like the folks in the UK don't think they are driving on the "wrong" side of the road. (one of most scared times I ever was, was the one week I spent in Ireland for work, and had a rental car. after 40++ years driving in the US - driving in Ireland was very frightening). But I digress. I warp from left to right across my loom. I thread from right to left. I slay the reed from left to right. and occasionally I do it all differently just for the heck of it.

    Hi, I so appreciate all you videos. I just printed this pattern out, and planning it out. was wondering what weight did you use for warp and tabby? And the pattern weft? Thank you, Ellen

    • @curmudgeon66
      @curmudgeon66  5 років тому

      The tabby was 22/2 Bockens Nialin Cottolin. The pattern weft is the same, but using two pattern threads per pick. I did this, if I remember correctly, at 20 epi.

      Reply in English:
      Hello Douae Debdi
      I think your comment is the first one that I have ever received that was written in Arabic, a language which I do not know. So I have used “Google Translate” to read your comment, and will also use Google to translate my reply.
      I am not sure that I fully understand what you are asking, but I think you want to know about the 8th red thread, after I have put the 7 needed ones through the heddles. I just let the 8th red thread sit at the back of the loom. The next time that I need red, later in the pattern, I will pick that one up and use it.
      If this was not what you wanted to know please ask again. Using Google to translate the jargon of weaving does not always work.
      I hope this is the help that you asked for.
      Thanks for watching my videos.
      Andy

      الرد كما ترجم من قبل جوجل ترجمة:
      مرحبا دعاء دبدي
      أعتقد أن تعليقك هو أول تعليق تلقيته على الإطلاق مكتوب باللغة العربية ، وهي لغة لا أعرفها. لذلك استخدمت "الترجمة من Google" لقراءة تعليقك ، وسوف أستخدم Google أيضًا لترجمة ردي.
      لست متأكدًا من أنني أتفهم تمامًا ما تسأل عنه ، لكنني أعتقد أنك تريد أن تعرف عن الخيط الأحمر الثامن ، بعد أن وضعت السبعة المطلوبة من خلال heddles. أنا فقط ترك الخيط الأحمر الثامن يجلس في الجزء الخلفي من المنوال. في المرة القادمة التي أحتاج فيها إلى اللون الأحمر ، في وقت لاحق من النمط ، سألتقطها ونستخدمها.
      إذا لم يكن هذا ما تريد أن تعرفه ، اسأل مرة أخرى. استخدام Google لترجمة لغة النسيج لا يعمل دائمًا.
      آمل أن تكون هذه هي المساعدة التي طلبتها.
      شكرا لمشاهدة مقاطع الفيديو الخاصة بي.

      @@curmudgeon66 سيدي الكريم،
      شكرا جزيلا على ردك، واقول: فهمك لسؤالي كان مضبوطا والترجمة الآلية كانت موفقة، غير ان جوابك لم يكن كافيا. لكنني أضيف ان تمثيلك البياني هو الآخر يقوم على 7 خيوط فقط ، على أي حال فقد خرجت من المشكلة بالقفز على 4 خيوط بعد الثلاثة التي بدلت موضعها،(كما ترى في الصورة المرفقة(لا اعرف كيف ارسلها لك)، رغم بعض الاخطاء التي ارتكبتها) وهكذا استقام الرسم والنسيج واصبح جميلا بفضل بديوهاتك، شكرا لك على مجهوداتك الشاقة. واصل ابداعاتك.
