Andy, this is awesome!!! I take it that it is experience that tells you what to expect. I get my LeClerc Mira loom (1964) on Wed. I am so excited. I just wish I had caught the weaving bug 30 years ago!!! But at 67 I figure I can weave for at least 25 years or more...lol IT may be elongated but it is beautiful!!!
@@curmudgeon66 lol..Maybe. My daughter told me she will probably find me slumped over my loom when I die. At 50 you are 17 years ahead of me. I love watching your videos. Now I am going through your other videos to see what I have missed. I found you over 2 years ago but never thought I would be getting my own loom.😁😁
Andy, it's amazing how you can plan one pattern, and so many other fascinating patterns are generated. From what I see so far, it's a beautiful weave! Great job!
Wow! I am blown away. I never knew you could do all of this with a loom. I had been contemplating getting a loom, but after seeing your videos I went ahead and purchased one. I can't wait until I get to your level of skill. I only hope it will not take too long. Practice, practice, practice. Right? Thanks so much for doing your videos.
Carolyn, you are correct that practice does help, and when you get done practicing, then do some more weaving, and finally practice some more. As for what one can do on a loom, part of that is controlled by the loom itself. For example to do the overshot shown here you need a four shaft loom. A two shaft or a rigid heddle loom will not be able to do this pattern, even if you practice for 75 years. You can still do beautiful work on rigid heddle or two shaft, but not overshot. I have probably got more shafts than I really need, but like the ability to do more complex weaving. What kind of loom are you getting? When you get it, will you post a video?
This is so beautiful and you explained it perfectly, think I could do it if I had a weaving machine, lol. Gorgeous pattern Andy. When you do the tie up, how long does it take you to do it and where do you get your materials at. Thanks so much Andy for showing us the process, take care and God Bless!
Whenever I am starting a new to me weaving pattern I ALWAYS look at your videos! I am going to try overshot and you haven't let me down. Love your videos!! Please keep them coming. EDIT: what is the weaving software you are using?
+N Malcolm Thanks you very much for your confidence in my weaving videos, I only hope that I don't make a mess that you have to fix up one of these days. The weaving software that I use is "Fiberworks PCW Silver" from www.fiberworks-pcw.com version 4.1.2, it has worked great for me.
Thanks, Andy....this helps a lot. Not so different from Monk's Belt, and even repp, in a way. Did your pattern shorten to more of a square after you released the loom tension and washed it?
Some of your weft floats are very long. I tend to add an extra shaft to the designwith very thin threads on it of a neutral colour and pin the long floats down with this when they occur, this also gives a tighter weave.
Why are the adjacent squares not showing the same pattern? What threading pattern did you use for them? And why not use the same threading pattern across to the left? I am a little confused?
I buy from two different places in the US: woolery.com/weaving/weaving-tools.html or www.yarnbarn-ks.com/Temples_Stretchers/products/273/ both sell the swedish wooden temples. I have bought from both these places many times and feel that they are both very reputable dealers.
One of the neet things, which I only learned recently, about the Fiberworks-PCW Silver program that I use is in the "tools" menu called "shaft shuffler" which allows you to put in a pattern as found and then re-arrange the threading or treadling. So by re-arranging the treadling you can move a pattern in such a way as to figure out how to make it a walking treadling if at all possible.
If you put 2 warp threads in 2 eyes on the same shaft, then when you do the reed threading the pattern will be wider in the reed and make the pattern square.
I realise I have found your channel a number of years later- but you answered my question of how to incorporate borders between patterns
😀
WOW I love it! even you made it Sep/13/2014 and now is Oct/1/22 very skillful and beautiful thanks.

I was in my 50s when I first got interested in weaving. I pray that you may have at least one score and fifteen years of weaving.

This is so beautiful even though I totally don't understand how you start it... Wish to see some step by step design video for beginners

You will do well, great directions for the weavers. Compliments. Thank you.

I look had for the patterns in your floor loom.
Why are the adjacent squares not showing the same pattern? What threading pattern did you use for them? And why not use the same threading pattern across to the left? I am a little confused?
its like a magic spell, do it and the rest of patterns would come by themselves..woow
+Saima Kalsom and that is the definition of "gamp". I always like those
Hi! I was wondering why you put your finger into the warp threads after throwing your shuttle.
watch this video to find out: ua-cam.com/video/C1LX38AMiVI/v-deo.html
Could you please tell me where you purchased your weaving temple? I have searched all over Canada to purchase one with no luck.
I buy from two different places in the US:
woolery.com/weaving/weaving-tools.html
or
www.yarnbarn-ks.com/Temples_Stretchers/products/273/
both sell the swedish wooden temples.

Were you able to convert tie up and walk your treadles for this pattern?

Ok now I get it. Duh!

The reason you have an elongated pattern is because your using two blue weft threads for every on warp thread
If you put 2 warp threads in 2 eyes on the same shaft, then when you do the reed threading the pattern will be wider in the reed and make the pattern square.
