Paul, you’re a real craftsman and attention to detail. You’re really good at lysin in the panels so you can’t see that they’ve but joint and Modified well done
Absolutely love you videos! Please get some protection on you hands and arms whilst welding though! We’d like you to be able to continue to make these videos for many years to come!
No question Paul , you know these like the back of your hand , which is why your work will be at the NEC . That last footage of cleaning of the flitch ......what's the purpose ? I guess tne unit doesn't have 3 phase ? Thanks Paul
@@PWCV-YT Yes I know it, I am also restoring a Mini :) The stiffener has an area where it is not connected to the closing panel, just to the floor, right? Do you spotweld the whole closing panel to the boot floor at only this area ?
@@csakbencee Ah, I see what you are asking now, It should be spotwelded in the 2 thickness area and in the 3 thickness area. It's important to spotweld near to where the subframe mounting bolts go through because if they are not pulled tight together they will distort as the bolts tighten which will crack the paint and lead to rusting in that structural area
@@PWCV-YT It’s great that Magnum are expanding range of panels. Shows how strong the Mini restoration scene is. Old Minis never die, they just get rebuilt 😀😀
I have a R. H. front nose section from a early (59 or 60) mini mk 1 assembly. It lacks The separate "A" panel and resembles the new magnum panel, I guess BMC decided to make the body more repairable after a frontal crash by adding the separate "A " panel.
They were both rot boxes ! I had loads of minis in the day and mk1 escorts, both over rated in my opinion but I did learn how to gas weld long before mig welders were available and made a fortune every weekend welding sills and wings etc, I would get my oxy and acetylene changed at the local scrap yard, there were regular customers for welding at mot time , people would even have their exhaust welded up !
We hope you enjoy the video!

Great to watch a true craftsman / body builder / mini specialist at work. 👍
Now that is detail, a man after my own heart, great work, Regards Doug.
The FB posts are great, but the real detail comes in these YT videos. Thanks for informing and inspiring us all!
I'm glad they help people out
Paul,yu a right stickler for originality, well done for your attention to detail, keep going!!!!
Just wow, the rear window mod....incredible work.
@@RTC057 in the next video you will see me fabricating the other side and fitting them both
Magnum are great panels & they’re really pushing ahead to continually improve. Fantastic work as always Paul.

Superb as always
This is true craftsmanship!!
Another great video, Paul!
looking forward to seeing the end result at the classic car show!
superb workmanship 👍
Respect for your BMC passion and knowledge, meticulous and neat work; thoroughly enjoyable video! Watching from Perth, Western Australia.
As also first class attention to details Paul, true craftsmanship 👍
Thankyou

35 year old habits die hard
Great work and attention to detail. Can you share the make and model of the spot welder you are using please?
Another great video. What make is your spot welder? Thanks
I can't remember off the top of my head but I have a short video coming out about it soon

I had welded up a hole in that area so had to make it look nice. no, no 3 phase
Great work and video, Q.If it's going to be a Motorsport shell why would you not seam weld the panels for extra torsional rigidity of the shell
Good question. The MD of Magnum is a bit handy himself and has plans for that which will be in a follow up video later on
Paul, great skills, great knowledge and great vid. Was going to say better than new but that wouldn't have been hard now would it.🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
At 5:56 are you spotweld only two layers together ? I mean the stiffener panel to the boot floor, but NOT the closing panel
There are 3 thicknesses there. The bootfloor and the valance closing panel which is 2 thicknesses itself

Love seeing it in person rather than FB post Paul. Are those rear valance closing panels Magnum as well.
Yes they are Magnum

Well done Paul 👍🏆🇬🇧. How much to do a mini van do you think? Cheers .
I would need a lot more information on what you need. Send an email with pictures of the van and what needs doing with it
So, I've always fancied building something like this from scratch. Any rough indication how much a completed shell would cost in parts?
I'm sorry, I have no idea of the cost of the parts. Magnum supplied them all to me
Love the work to make it just right. Minor point: music started to get repetitive after a while.
I listen to loud heavy metal while I work. It has to be drowned out. That will not change

@@jimhall9624 the A panel was never separate on a saloon, it was a one piece pressing but was it separate on van and pickup models
Did anyone else get Binky flashbacks??
I've never got round to watching it myself
Hi Paul, are you able to provide a cost for putting one of these together for me please pal..
I don't know the cost at the moment but I'm unlikely to do it again tbh
Why I have the impression that micro automotive manufacturing will thrive in the forthcoming years?
No weld through primer?
No, I was asked not to on this one
Genuin car enthusiasts will be unable to afford these as companys will raise the price to extortionate levels once exhibited.
A real shame.😢
@@chrisplace9773 that's why I've been flat out for the last 6 years and have lots of orders
I know this might attract hostile comment .....but .....why not spend all of that time and effort on something worthwhile.......mk1 escort ?
If there was demand ?
How boring another overrated Ford🤫
Because you don't build an Escort to showcase your new range of Mini panels

Theres plenty of other people doing mk1 escort shells like this.
