Totally hear you, took me 5 yrs to build my car by myself. Money, oh please let’s skip that part. Just keep the passion alive, that’s what keeps all of us going.🤘
Discovery Chanel is good at making fiction. You don’t build a car in a month. When you see someone work a body panel, or wet sand a 2 square foot area and never move for over an hour. Then people would understand.
Been building vehicles for over 40 years, wonder how many folks got suckered into "I can build a car in a month or two" or "I can flip a house in a month"...... not happening, kids.
20 years ago or so I ran a stereo/lift/lowering … basically everything kind of shop. Cranked out a lot of hot rides for the time. It always blew my mind when a guy would drop a vehicle off, set 5k down and think he was gonna have it done by the time we closed. “ fiberglass can’t take that long, I see it on tv all the time” Delusional. “Well how much more to be done today?” Listen fool it’s a fiberglass box for 4 15s in the trunk of an impala that you want painted body color. Nothing is one day about that. Take care
My Brother from another Mother, you are doing great work. So proud of what you do and how you and your business has grown. God bless you in all that you do. Regards Edwin in New Zealand. PS - We hope to visit again soon!
I was trying to explain to someone last week that I spent an entire day on a fuel line and still didn't get it to fit right. It was a braided line with AN fittings. Sometimes that's just the way it goes. Those who don't do this type of work really don't grasp that very easily.
Yes, good footage, and yes, good speaker audio. 👍 But running the music at darn near the same level as the speaker was bad, and there could've been cooler cuts/transitions between Jason's various takes the first ~5 mins. And there were a couple voice track blips. But yes, overall, great video - just not what would be called a "monster" edit.
I like to watch these shows but I'm not a mechanic and I don't like getting my hands dirty. However I noticed they never mentioned the prices of all this fancy gear they're putting on these cars. When I look up the prices they can spend up to 5 or 10,000 just for an engine front end suspension parts whatever. And you know a Sunday shade tree hot rod is never going to meet those kinds of expectations.
Hasn't been honest in 20+ years. It's actually gotten even worse because now shows will hassle buyers to get projects super insanely cheap then claim a barn find or something stupid
Anyone that has built their own vehicles and watched any auto show knows it’s all drama and fiction. We figured out how to do anything from basic maintenance to fabrication because we could not afford to pay others. I started a full rotisserie ground up build. Never again. When custom frames cost $25k and paint jobs today are a house. My stuff will stay ugly. And I don’t need a $25k custom frame that uses the same shitty front suspension as my current 92 obs. That’s not an improvement, it’s slapping a big name on it, and calling it better. None of the big names address the problem with the factory eccentric washer adjustment upper control arms of the 88-95 obs, tubular control arms don’t help. A heim or rod end fixes a lot of the factory bind that is created with the factory control arm. Be glad the 67-72 front suspension and rear truck arm setup is already a better design for handling.
This ALL depends on the ego of the shop... Ive worked in both high end and low end shops... High end is better , but mostly unnecessary We're not in 1980 with crap materials. The vast vast vast majority of rides DO NOT need the debeers diamond line of products (PPG ,HOUSE OF KOLORS,etc) , Ive watched a guy spend 8 hours fabbing a bracket that just decided to make different than the one they had already.. at 65 an hour.. This type of job stuffing happens A LOT. Obviously things take time to do correctly but the wrong shop will grape you six ways from sunday...ive watched it happen.
