I think that the lotr films had a much stronger foundation, (one of the strongest in cinema history) Jackson had a lifetimes worth of a literary guide-map. Where Star Wars is more of a mixed bag of influences (dune, flash gordan, hidden fortress). George Lucas changed blockbuster filmmaking forever with Star War, however up against Peter Jackson AND the life’s work of JRR Tolkien, it is not a fair fight. I love both trilogies, however if I take what I consider to be the stronger of each..The fellowship of the ring is much deeper and put together film than the Empire strikes back, no question.
What is it with LOTR fans comparing LOTR to other franchises all the time??? I love LOTR AND star wars. Personally, I think star wars has a stronger lore, But the First LOTR trilogy is equal to the original trilogy. And "deepness"??? I can't wait for 500,000 triggered fans to insult me.
@@joecool201 I'm with you on most of your comment. I don't get why we couldn't both. I personally loved both trilogies even tho I liked LOTR more than Star Wars. The thing I don't agree to, is your point about the lore. LOTR isn't comparable with Star Wars, it's just that its lore is not exposed as much as it is with Star Wars. In the movies, we don't get explanations as why there is a "light of Elendil" or why the Dunedain can live older than most humans, how the orcs are created, where do the Elves go when they take their ships, who is Sauron, who is Gandalf, and I mentioned only like 1% of what is not explained in the movies. To understand those things, you have to read not only the books, but also the Silmarillion, the unfinished tales, etc. They didn't explain everyting in the movies for two reason. First, because they take us as intelligent viewers who don't need explanation every 5 minutes. Second, because to understand everything that was said and seen in the movies, it would have legit taken 3 or 4 more 3h movies. That fantasy wolrd is the richest that was ever made by anyone, all thanks to the genius that was J.R.R. Tolkien.
