I practiced Wing Chun some thirty/forty years ago, but it seemed that no one mentioned the simple but important facts as illustrated by you. Thank you very much for your free sharing.
I think that Wing Chun is a pretty good technique and I'm very very very powerful technique indeed I just wish I could have had been doing this and karate the right way and I would have kept up my practice is over the years it could have helped it could have saved it my life for the better of us all 🥋☯️🙏😌🙏☯️🥋

You make some excellent points: the importance of the center line, the importance of proper footwork, not losing the connection to the wooden dummy, the importance of not using excessive force, and the importance of proper footwork in order to execute a strike.
People talk shit about WC but I'll tell you this, as a relatively experienced striker I've learned more about entrances by watching WC & FMA videos and applying or adapting them to my personal game than any other martial art that I have actually practiced to some degree. I spar with guys who've only trained kickboxing for the most part and between the entrance strategies I've picked up from WC & FMA most of them have a hard time seeing me coming. I use traps & locks very sparingly but when the opportunity is there it's a done deal the majority of the time. Diversify your skillset, you don't need to become an expert in every martial art but if you just get the basics of each then you take what's useful for you & apply it. As they say in Ninjutsu "If it works use it".

Thanks Kevin. I am always pushing foot work for everything. So important. I'll have to add position in. It is so basic you might look over it just assuming people know. Great points.
Thanks sir 🙏 for sharing these precious knowledge ,which is big inspiration for us here in our country as ,we already been fascinated by these WOODEN DUMMIES and it drills. Here in my country ,fortunately ,we have one WING CHUN DUMMY in our gym.thks.
Obviously this martial art is strong and effective. But it is the first time that someone explains the functions of that wooden "Totem" that seems so primitive and mysterious to us Westerners. Thanks for the didactic and simple explanation for such a complex art! Congratulations!🌟
Thanks, yeah i took tiger claw kung fu for 3 1/2 years ,and we always talked of wing chun.I tried rigging up my own dummy, not knowing what i was doing. But i remember seeing Brue Lee use one briefly, and then Donnie Yen on IPMAN,showing and using it. In Tiger Claw from what i remember 8 moves. The first 4 or 6 were close to your moves. I was wondering on the foot movements. You did mention briefly on it. But great tutorial on getting started. How many moves are there in wooden dummy work out I wonder. Thanks Kevin.
really nice explanation of this basic drills, one question if I may, can you talk about the steps ( triangle shape you have in the floor and how to set it up ) in the dummy form ? Thanks
Kevin,. Chinese believe Yin ☯️ and Yang ... In other words a moment to be hard and soft or with in a spilt second! Applications are with good techniques depending on space, distance and timing... You do have food points Mr. Lee.. however, I seen what Black Belts do during work outs many times.
Definitely can! Because it’s not an exciting compared to those you need to spar. 35 is not old at all. May be a golden age if you already keeping doing excises.
Some of the most painful and debilitating strikes are in Okinawan karate BLOCKING with the forearms. Every practioner of Goju, Isshin-ryu, Shorin-ryu, Uechi-ryu etc remembers to the day he dies the pain of practicing blocking. It wasn't bad with other students because you would both go easy on each other. But when you had to practice with a Black Belt, oh the pain. I've been thinking about getting a Wing Chun wooden dummy to start conditioning my forearms again.
Excellent video, thank you! I'm considering purchasing a real wooden dummy but the ones I've seen for sale appear to be too tall. I'm 5'1" so would need one where my arms could reach the upper arms, as well as the middle and the leg. Do you have any suggestions as to who would sell one with appropriate height?
Is it possible to, or our their drills for, performing wing Chun interception or parry and strike drills as though one were moving forward or back? I mention this because I observe, as a layman, that many fights occur while either driving forward or while being driven back and I would assume this would change the footwork needed to complete the interception or parry and strike. Also, are there forms to practice takedowns and takedown defense? Thanks!
G'day, Mr Kevin Lee. I just had to ask a question regarding the wooden dummy. No.1 > First and foremost is the wooden dummy used to train Japanese or Chinese martial arts. No.2 > is this wooden dummy also available overseas ( if indeed yes, is it possible to specify which countries uses it). No.3 > here is the last and most difficult question: if there's a martial arts school in South Africa that uses it and it's close to Pretoria, could it be possible that you can specify which school it is because I want to continue training again. All the best Jaco
Well that's interesting about using the squareness of the holes , never heard that before. I built my own dummy body out of PVC drainage pipe back in the 90's and just made round holes for conviinience , and the arms I bought were round too. It works fine for what I do because I really don't use much Wing Chun . I even added a spring loaded leg to practice sweeps and trips. But that's really cool and it makes total sense. Always more to learn !
I love the drills you showed. You made those techniques look very simple to do. Now I just have to purchase a Wing Chun dummy. Do you know where I can buy one?

Very informative, shows some key elements of the technique without too much talk. Thank you!
Mr Lee thank you for your input, I've just received my first wood dummy pat
Nice explanations!
It’s a very good entry for learning the dummy form.
Excellent video and instruction. I can see where this is highly effective for defense and striking.

Are you pivoting with your feet in the way you teach in your lineage?
As always Kevin nice job!

What if you combined Wingchun with Muay Thai, would that not be unstoppable? If you used true Wingchun that is kinda like jiujitsu, aswellas Aikido.
Kevin Lee is possibly the highest level martial artist on youtube....Osssss!
You never came far on yt then..
Maybe among Wing Chun practitioners, but certainly not in general
Not even in wing chun... very low skillbase. And also a lot of obvious mistakes in mechanics and general understanding
Kevin Lee definitely is and has the skills
Ridiculous comment, seems almost beginner to me
