Interesting how an assumption I made many many years ago has served to confuse me for the rest of my pool career. At a young age, I "assumed", incorrectly, that new cloth has MORE grab due to how much easier it is to draw a ball. So more draw means more grab right?......well, clearly wrong. It draws easier because it doesn't lose as much spin on its way to the object ball. But that assumption altered by ability to understand SLIDE on the rails as well. This is why your videos on basic "invisible stuff" is so important....incorrect assumptions like mine at a young age can hold you back for a lifetime. Great video Niels!!! Thanks

I am glad you brought this to light because I've been in that situation where the cloth and the balls are brand new and so there are a lot of shots that new cloth takes away. Also a soft tip will help on new cloth.
Niels, really awesome job to make a teaching moment out of something most of us don't have enough experience with. When tables are covered in our local room, we get to play with the new cloth a little but it breaks in pretty quickly being played everyday by multiple people. We don't get the level of exposure you do going from tournament to tournament. In your experience, how much playing time does it take before the behavior of the the cloth starts to change? What shots do you try to test a table? What kind of cloth did you have installed?
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen make a video about how to adapt to wet/humid conditions. Out of all the changes on table conditions really humid/raining is the toughest for me to adapt to. My style of play is stunning around the angles when possible which works great on normal conditions and brand new conditions if you know how to adapt, but it seems like on wet conditions the balls throw a whole lot more than expected, the cushions sometimes are extra bouncy if it’s cold outside too and shooting shots all the way down the rail are almost impossible.

Thank you
You’re welcome!!
I don't think you mentioned it but I'd assume the new cloth is Simonis 860. This effect is definitely more pronounced on Worsted cloths.
Yep 860 👍🏼😄
860 or 860hr?
How Long did you have the old cloth?

So generally speaking.. Old felt = harder stroke, less spin. New cloth softer stroke, more english.
Seeing how much the cloth affects the English. How much affect does new vs old clean vs old dirty balls play?
Great video!!!!!!
When you play in a tournament are you always playing on new cloth?
No not always 👍🏼👍🏼
