  • I take a look at the Teclast F7 Plus which I bought on a whim to see if a cheap laptop could compete with my similarly-valued X1 Carbon Gen 2 from 2014. Turns out it could not, except in battery life (spoilers).
I actually purchased the laptop about a year ago and started making a video about it, but the farked around without working on it in the interim. Hence, we are here now.
For some reason I did a full walk-through of the Teclast's rather robust BIOS, which you can see here:

    I don't understand.
Back in 2016 I bought a very cheap laptop, around 200 euros at the time. It was the HP 14-r206nv. It has a 2 core 2 thread Celeron N2840, 2GBs of RAM, Intel HD igpu. It was slow even for 2016.
I wanted a cheap extra laptop at the time and the lack of a fan was a plus. It came with a slow 500GB HDD which I replaced with a SATA3 256SSD (some cheap brand I don't remember now).
It is running Windows 8.1. I still use it, solely as a media playing device for when I am exercising. How does it perform better (based on what I see in this video) than what should be a much more powerful equally cheap machine? As I see there are only two differences that might work for the HP model. The stock CPU speed of 2.16Ghz (burst to 2.58Ghz) and...Windows 8.1?
I can browse the internet just fine (mostly Opera), watch videos, play older games (first decade of this century without issues).
    Perhaps I am mistaken.
Anyway, thanks for the fun (yes fun) video.
