  • Pierre Gasly sits down for an emotional and reflective interview with Lee McKenzie, as he pays tribute to his friend Anthoine Hubert who tragically died on the 2019 Belgian F1 Grand Prix weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit after a crash. When people ask me why he's the driver I chose to root for, I just tell them his story, how hard he fought to be where he is now, how humble and down to earth he stays, and how grateful he will always be to be in F1. He deserves the best.

      Only thing I remember about her, was when her father ran naked around Silverstone.

    This is what integrity in sport looks like. Lee is such a gem. The respect and empathy she offers the people she is interviewing allows them to be open and vulnerable and shows us the real story behind the events.

    I lost my best friend to cancer in '15, I feel for Pierre. I know that pain of losing a best friend. It never goes away. I think about Patrick daily still and its '23 now. Almost a decade later. His photo still sits on my desk and his number is still saved in my phone contacts with his photo. Losing someone like that is never easy and will always be painful. It gets better with time but it still hurts deeply.

      Sorry for your loss, and thank you so much for sharing your story! I guess this is what binds us all together and makes this life meaningful and beautiful in a way. All of us can relate to the feeling of loss and grief, of losing someone you had so much love for. All that love is now just within ourselves, manifested as a little sore spot in our hearts.

    Great interview. Lovely Pierre. All the drivers actually are wonderful and have their own amzing stories of their journeys to F1. I appreciate them all. How they manage to drive in those wet Spa conditions is bravery and dedication to your craft beyond another level. Sadly we do lose some in pursuit of their dreams. I hope we all need to be kinder and gracious to them.

    • @bjarki304
      @bjarki304 11 місяців тому +15

      Everyone knows racing is dangerous.
      Everyone knows everybody will die and yet we still miss them and grieve when loved ones die.
      Some people will never get over the loss of someone who was close to them - and that's okay. It's individual feelings.
      When you grew up with someone, had them next to you all the way and shared a passion with them, you will miss them when they are gone.
      Let Pierre grieve. He lost someone who was like a brother to him. He is allowed to feel that grief for years.
      He has accepted that racing is dangerous, he knows it is. That doesn't mean he's not allowed to grieve or hurt.
