In my opinion, the person with the best overhand right (or right cross as they called it in his day) was Joe Louis. His overhand was lightning fast and he could throw it effectively against both smaller and larger opponents. He also caused some absolutely brutal injuries and knockouts with it.

Overhand right is really the death punch of boxing. I found that after a body jab soon throwing an overhand right to the head is also working.
A thing interesting is some kinds of Chinese kung fu exist similar long curve back hand punch and the fist is required to let thumb down. In the praying mantis kung fu, it seems to be called Quang Chui, it is totally like overhand right in boxing! I think no matter east or west martial arts both found similar way to perform most powerful deadly punch. We really can say All roads lead to ROMA. :)

i only do it kinda slow in sparring, even when we go somewhat hard, as i dont wanna risk knocking out my sparring partner, other shots i throw full power when i can land them

Is this one of those times you could slip a jab to the inside because the overhand is coming to cover you? I think Mike Tyson used to slip to the inside more than most boxers, and he had a killer overhand right

Question, I wear contacts and one of them got knocked out when I was sparring the other day. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid having the contact knocked out (besides not getting hit) or should I just get comfortable boxing without my contacts.

Get comfy boxing without it cus one day ur contact could end up in a bad position inside ur eye

@@Tony_Jeffries ive been subbed for a while mate. Excellent vid. Concise and straight to the point some good nuggets in there. I didn't know that you curve the arm and move your head off the line.
