    Both cars had the charge limit set to 60% on both charging sessions. For whatever reason the Megane shows 59% on the charger.
    The Megane started at ended at the same SOC.

    If we take all the criteria into account, for me it is the Megane, the interior of the VW is really a no-go

      Look at the real cars and you will see no great difference. And: The Megane is much more expensive than ID3

    Useful test. Thanks. The Megane benefits from Renault's EV experience with three generations of the Zoe and shares some of the Zoe cabin controlls, although the Megane platform is new. Choice of EV is also affected by availability. With two good cars just buy the one which arrives first!

    Both cars are handsome. I really like the Renault design. Have they made a larger EV?

    Interesting that the ID3 consumption is slightly better. I think some people were hoping the Mégane would be super efficient. The Mégane charge curve is obviously a bit flatter or else less sensitive to plugging in at very low SoC (I think they have very similar 130kw peak if you plug in at low SoC?) Good test

      It is the same curve, but Megane likes the high SOC started charging sessions better.

    Looks like a little mistake in your measurement. The moment the charger crashed, the Megan was not ready with charging as the ID.3. The Megan was at 59%, so I think it has to charge a little bit until it's finished.

      No, it shows 1% less at the charger. I started with 59% at the charger. Car showed 60%
      I arrived with 46%, charger showed 45%. No idea why, but it did.

      @@BatteryLife okay, thanks for clarification. I just thought about it because it looks like both cars stopped charging at the same moment.
      In the end the consumption of the cars is nearly the same! Great test!

    I would think it is the same in effectiveness. The difference is due to the wheel size...

      @@BatteryLife They look like their bodies displace a similar amount of air so Megane on 18's would likely even things up. DC rotor with brushes for the Renault v more common permanent magnet on VW but I doubt it makes much difference.

      I ordered a first edition and they refuse to put it on 18s so I'm stuck with the childish, ugly, less efficient & worse feeling 20s

    Would you still chose an id3 now? Would you prefer the Renault? I’m leaning toward the Megane; somewhat based on what you’ve shown in your videos.

      @KennethPaul it's a pretty decent car if you want to go fully electric and have the options to charge at home or at work. Drove it from the Netherlands to Spain and wished for a bigger battery, even tho I've got the biggest one. The 220pk is insane, more than enough to overtake everyone at the stoplights. Google's infotainment is working well now after some updates. Integration with the whole vehicle is perfect. Only wished for a sunroof and better visibility, sight is pretty bad in the car. I have to move my heard to make sure I see everything from the sides. Today, I almost hit a bike haha. Would recommend the megane over the Id.3, Born and even model 3 and the new EX30.

    My take on this is that the efficiencies of both cars are too close to call. It is possible that the VW does better at higher speeds (Autobahn) while the Mégane is more frugal at lower speeds. It also looks like in the 40-60% range the Mégane charges slightly faster. In any case, I don't think that this test, while interesting and well done, will make buyers choose one car over the other. For me, the vastly better infotainment system (including trip planning) of the Mégane has made the difference.

    Nice! I'm glad you did the comparisons between these two. It's an important test!
    I was really hoping to buy the new electric Megane, but I chose the ID.3 instead. It looks like it didn't make a bad decision, because it they're both good. Though I still like the design of the Megane better than the ID.3's . 😅

    Megane is a very nice car, very quiet, comfy, safe, good. Generally I want to express, that 2022 the new price for electric cars is 40 k at least in germany. This car goes directly to 50 k, which is all a lot of money for average people, considering that politics want the move to eletricity, I guess individual mobility will either be unaffordable in the future or just something for the rich. Bad development, most people only can afford those cars by paying high credits for years. 60 kwh is not a lot in 2022, megane should have 70 at least for the price.

    I like look of Megane. What's your opinion on rear seat and boot size? I'm not sure about id3 in Red, not my favourite.
    Does anyone know if 3.0 will change charge curve?

      It is a 300kW hypercharger with 4 modules which each can provide 75kW.
      The modules divide on the two plugs. Since both would never use more than 2 modules which provide 150kW, it is fine.
      If a Taycan would have charged there, it would have gotten 3 or even all 4 modules.

    Interesting comparison: you can see the sub-optimal charging curve of the VW even at low SOC values. What I don't like calling a comparison a fight, too martial why not call it a challenge?

    The Megane has a flickering display and the ID3 display does not flicker so it wins this test but it needs to be a GTX ID3 come on VW

      @@BatteryLife you do see it but you do not perceive the flicker, however your brain still reacts to it subconsciously which is why flickering lights induce fatigue and tiredness

      @@tomquimby8669 No, nothing to do with what the brain perceives or not.
      It's just a question of frequency between the video and the screen.
      You can switch cameras, and it's the other way around. You will see flashing in the ID3 and not in the Megane.
