The worst is yet to come. Truth. Words like Orwellian and Apocalyptic come to mind. America has been given a choice, live the half life of a worker drone and debt slave, or fight the fight and probably find yourself in a body bag or in prison. We had a chance but America slept through it all. Really I see no daylight, no possible way to avoid the fate that awaits us.
Dan Harris Everything stated by Naomi Klein was remarkably eloquent. Smart and Powerful Men know how to get flattery from Women without blatant mendacity. The larger issue here is that the American Government is a direct reflection of the American Citizenry. Donald Trump is nothing more than a Mirror of what American Culture and American Society actually is. The Electorate voted for, went along with, supported, and bears full responsibility for where we find ourselves. What's been brought forward really is another useful distraction from the real issues that the Political Indentured Servants on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue aren't allowed to tell anyone (i.e. the Healthcare Rabbithole). The World really is laughing and shaking their heads at America, I can hardly contain my laughter and jubilation either 😃. Donald Trump put lipstick on a pig 🐖 and went to sell it to someone who didn't know what they were buying. He sold Gold-plated promises and a bill of goods to the Electorate that has the same value as a Degree from Trump University, and it was bought Hook Line and Sinker. The only difference between Bernie Madoff and Donald Trump is who's sitting in the Oval Office. America's Foreign Affairs is in Shambles due to the failure of our blood soaked American Imperialism, Our American Economic and Monetary Development is in Collapse since our Money is worth nothing more than playing a Monopoly game, and our $20 Trillion Dollar Debt cesspool. The American Government cannot serve the needs or interests of the American Citizenry since the Corporations, the Military Industrial Complex, K Street Lobbyists and AIPAC made sure that Washington DC is Corporate Occupied Territory. An American Government cannot fail those it was never meant to serve...

Naomi says "know your history"... that's very important... so important that schools no longer teach it... not knowing your history is one of the best ways to "dumb down" a society.
I agree. People need to know how the government works as well. Most people have very little knowledge of the system.

Mother Earth is the one player that has been left out of this theorizing. Kline has re-won my respect with "No", in spite of "This Changes Everything" (written after everything had changed). My thirty years of study of climate and the cryosphere suggest that, at the very least, exponential sea level rise has emerged as one of the most serious problems (for the moment) humanity has to face. If you are not paying close attention you are missing this point. Also, a companion to sea level rise is the increased level of disastrous storms that could even open the door to "category 6" hurricanes. The DoD is keenly aware that global warming, as a threat multiplier, has emerged as the number one threat to national security. Pay attention to what the military is preparing for. There is no debate about global warming there. They will not willingly sacrifice their mission for silly debates over opinions about facts.

Very important to point out that yes, Trump is favoring the companies that buy weapons from us like Saudi Arabia, but this has been US foreign policy under Republicans for almost 40 years. Trump is simply more clumsy about it.
It´s been the policy of both wings. Excluding the democratic party from this is dangerous and will only lead you to complacency because "if my side does it it´s ok".

Ms Klein is very brave. She is urging people not to obey what will be called the law, rather to go into the streets and face the police and military forces that will be arrayed against protesters and resisters. She could be prevented from entering the US in the future, or she could be arrested in the US by the military and indefinitely detained under the NDAA.
I hope she's arrested if she's riling up violence in the name of peace and working to end Western Civilization because she can't handle that her preferred favor of tyrant isn't in office and we're not going to be reducing everything and everyone to the least common denominator in the name of equality.

Most people erroneously believe that veterans blindly support GOP 'leadership'.
We don't.
Most veterans - especially the younger generations - are independent thinkers. They have critical thinking skills; they objectively assess personnel and situations. There are enough independent thinkers in our active duty military to prevent gross abuse of power. Younger veterans are trained to NOT follow unlawful orders; they know how and when to correctly challenge anyone who misuses their position of authority. Their strongest loyalty is to the American public - not individual leaders.
Blind authoritarianism no longer rules our United States military. The professionalism, integrity, and espirit de corps of our all-volunteer military has never been stronger. They protect and serve the American public because they choose to - not because they were drafted.
Diversity is our strength. Hope is our unity. E pluribus unum (out of the many - one); this is the motto of the United States of America.

Interesting in that the three crises she mentioned in the US - WWII - Japanese internment, The Great Depression - the Mexican expulsions, and hurricane Katrina - the brunt of it adversely impacting the African American community long term, they were all reflecting upon the repercussions on people of color. She says these experieces were absorbed and keep alive within their communities, but was not "metabolized into the American consciousness". That says to me that the real issue is that when talking about "American consciousness" here, the focus is on WHITE American consciousness. Period. And that's a deep root of problem. It's the same as the media focusing on how the "heartland" America feels/thinks, as if they are the ONLY "real" Americans, and people in other parts of the country are somewhat "less" American. Red/blue, POC/white... the biggest dividing tool in this country is about the few that have (and are taking more by hook or crook), and the have-nots....and the more we focus on the lesser divisions l, the less focus is on that "top tier" fattening their purses and ruining our nation and our planet!!! I agree with her to follow the M. O. N. E. Y. That's where the trail will always lead.

Interesting to note who REALLY started the African slave trade in America...the upper NORTHeastern coastal cities...the WEALTHY cargo ship owners/bankers/money-changers...and then it worked its way down to the southern port cities of Charleston and Savannah. Ms.Klein is clearly very informed and approaches the problems in a detached and objective manner. We desperately need more like her in positions of government and/or influence. The American electorate essentially fell asleep about 20-25 years ago, due to several significant social and cultural impacts: The obscene infatuation with President Regan by the upper 1% - the Koch brothers type folks fed up with paying higher taxes, and a recognition of a friendly face in Washington - along with an emerging social movement driven by fear of the influence of drugs, declines in religious membership and bolstered by a confidence derived from the easy victory in Gulf War 1. This token fight allowed us as a nation to reinvest in our nation/image and gave impetus to an effort to return to earlier ways of governing and social guides. "Bring back the good old days" in this case meant a return to an ultra conservative and religious oriented form of social order, but one that concentrated on the enrichment of the 1% at the expense of the truly needy. Some of this involved encroachment on long held social and religious values such as a ban on same sex relationships, the entire LGBT community, and of course the issue of a woman's right to control her own body. We also see the direct result of movement by the ultra right in the Supreme Court ruling that gave us George Bush instead of Al Gore, and the application of the new GOP control of American politics in the consequences of 9/11. The well known political laziness of most Americans when it comes to taking direct action regarding politics also allowed further inroads by the far right and the emergence of media distribution of the ultra conservative message through outlets such as Fox, Levin, Hannity, and the like. There is a vast and unfortunately growing portion of our society committed to self induced paranoia regarding the possible consequences of what they perceive as an eventual failure of life as we know it, a direct result of their fear of what they perceive as dark moving forces that conspire to destroy all we hold dear - rather like a self-fulfilling prophecy: we know it is all going to fail so we act accordingly and sure enough it fails. In the mean time, we see a demagogue such as a Trump who uses the same tools as Hitler, the same kinds of propaganda, even found himself a scapegoat in both Muslims and to a lesser degree Latinos. All of this plays to the inherent fears of a certain portion of our world, about 30% +/- here, more or less elsewhere, a base that will follow him no matter how many lies he tells: they do not have anywhere or anyone else available to lead them. In the mean time, Trump and his cronies are doing all they can to implement the strategic changes they desire, EPA, Education, Health, Tax "Reform" aka tax cuts for the ultra wealthy at the expense of health coverage of the neediest among us - all entitlements if possible. And what can be done? Unfortunately, the awful reality is we have to encourage a Republican controlled Congress to impeach and remove a Republican President, and in turn allow a truly messed up religious nut job to take over in his stead. The only true answer is to make sure Democrats take over the Congress in 2018 and the Presidency in 2020. If we survive in the mean time. Trump will do anything to remain in power up to and including a war with Korea and/or Iran.
David Stewart Pence scares the shit out of me. Yes, Trump could send us into war, but Pence will rot our country from the inside out. People are really into "the Handmaid's Tale" right now thanks to its discussion of women's rights. What they SHOULD be afraid of are the themes of religious fundamentalism turning the US into a theocracy. Pence and co. won't change the political system, but they will tip the scale toward a particular group, who may assert themselves as the nation's religion. No progressive president would dare try to overturn religious liberties in 2020 and the Supreme Court is run by conservatives who vote "the Christian way."
We are screwed as a secular society for decades if the religious continue to get their way. Acquit the entire succession! RESIST!

I get ill when I hear him say "well of course not" which seems to be his favorite expression. As bad as DT is you can actually look at his face and eyes and tell when he is lying - of course, all the practice he gets and we get watching him certainly helps too. There was a very good reason our Founders insisted on "Freedom of Religion" which actually translated as Freedom FROM Religion. My theological beliefs are a matter of my personal relationship with the deity to which I pledge my ultimate salvation. Or not I don't need some SS want-a-be telling me how to live, or what my daughter can or can not do with her body, based on his superstitious unquestioning nonsense. My wife saw him walking across the tarmac of some airport with a brief case, and she said she flashed to some film she had seen where a Nazi officer was walking and carrying a case the same way. Silly? Sure. On the other hand, picture this dude in a close fitting black uniform with cavalry boots, etc., .... give me the creeps. :)

Yet when it has come to the Republican tax reforms the Democratic leadership has been very very quiet. The fiscal conservatives of both parties have been very quiet. This thing will have a lot of impact on older women, women of color and poor women but the feminist have been strangely quiet. Liberal of today are only liberal when it comes to non-economic issue that have little or no impact on corporations and the 1 percent.

Generally speaking when the Republicans get in control they do three things. The first thing is that they lower taxes. It is on the promise it will create more jobs. Whether it does or not, that is up to debate. The second thing they do is start spending more. Republicans have this reputation that they are fiscally conservative but generally when in power the like to spend like drunken sailors. (That is how they do income redistribution.) The result is that suddenly we have these big debts with smaller revenues because of the tax cuts. Eventually with the smaller revenues are pretty much servicing the interest on the debt. (More income redistribution.) This is where we get to part three which the Republicans blame the Democrats and the social entitlement programs for creating the problems. Unlike my fellow Democrats with no solutions the Republicans will propose cut back on the entitlements, the social net, social security, VA, Medicare and Medicaid, and if not cut back not to allow the to expand because as we all know poor people should not be helped in their view point.
Unlike Russiagate, Obamacare and Me-2, the tax cuts have big consequences on things like Medicaid expansion, for example, which will have a big impact on the quality of medical care FOR EVERYONE because it will mean say fewer hospitals and availability of special care for things like mammograms, MRIs and breast cancer treatment, etc. It may mean women who are not working or retired will not have access a doctor close by. In the case of single parent families, meaning women mostly, they won’t pay for child health care services or there will not places for women to go to get health before giving birth. If you are an older woman, too, if you have a stroke and need assisted medical care that might not be available because it is suddenly too expensive. If you need help paying for child birth, that will probably get cut. Programs to help battered women get cut, too. Programs to help women get retraining, those get cut, too. We don’t have a lot of poverty with older people who are largely women because of the kinds of programs we have to help them. FYI, it is not very pro-life.

Have been watching the US intently from Australia and one thing that struck me the most is the current engagement of its citizens. We are seeing acts of resistance in the US already and it is giving me hope that reasonable Americans will come out of their houses to protest and reclaim their Democracy. The biggest opportunity to impact this corrupt and greedy Whitehouse will come in 2018. The mid-terms will be key in determining what kind of country the US will be. I am anxiously awaiting a reduction in my anxiety and stress levels and hope we are not engulfed in a world war as a result of Trump's inability to de-escalate political grandstanding by leaders in North Korea for example.

Those not in the same tax bracket as themselves are basically welfare bums, American Dream deniers who simply are too stupid and incompetent, lazy, ugly, unsavory and witless, greedy, brain-dead, gullible sloths who are dim-witted, fat, exploitable couch potatoes, feeble-minded in the bedroom and the board-room, and who are lucky if they have a wife that is fat-free and fuckable (don't worry, they would never want to fuck your loved ones unless there was a disappearance option put in writing). And the notion that you still have access to the possibility of a second mortgage is definitely a bridge to far. But they calm themselves eventually, though begrudgingly, with the fact that you will never afford as many shirts or surgeries as they have, and your stress levels will almost certainly kill you before you ever see a dime of pension. Which soothes their husks, like a lamp-shade protecting its light from ever seeing that embarrassing tattoo. Yes, they have things to hide. Things to protect and a mask. Imagine how incredible the incredible 10 to 1% are that they incredibly get richer and richer and then richer every-time they unproduce something. Make stuff disappear. This is an impressively concise, well-informed and well-spoken handbook on public disobiedience, which is a keystone of democracy. Another keystone is of course being informed, and there I really think we are, all of us, pretty much screwed. With hundreds of tv-shows, sports events, comedies, and other white noise to happily distract us, it's fearfully easy for us to be ignorant when important information is freely available.
If it sounds like I am exagerating: pick any YT video on politics. Go through the comments and count how many of them are just repetitions of the usual slurs which haven't even anything to do with what was said in the video.
