Star Wars The Last Jedi - Luke Is The Villain Hint Revealed & More

  • Today we go over star wars the last jedi when it comes to Luke Skywalker and today I wanted to go over what may be a subtle hint that luke could be the villain or in my mind perceived as the villain from our heroes such as Rey later on after learning some revelations. After the star wars the last jedi trailer dropped luke seems scared of raw power, and in the poster we see luke looming over like all of the villains in every star wars poster. The villain is always the biggest figure in a poster.

I thought about the red kyber crystal on his necklace. I know a lot of people were saying that he may have his father's ,Darth Vader's crystal on his necklace but what if that Kyber crystal was indeed his own? With Kylo Ren joining the Dark Side and destroying Luke's Order, Luke was bound to feel some pain from that event. With red lightsabers it takes pain to be instilled into the crystal therefore the crystal reacts to the pain of the individual causing it to bleed crimson therefore producing the red color on the lightsaber. It's a possibility and Luke could have went into the Dark Side temporarily but then on the other hand he may be holding on to the light but be struggling with the tragedy that has occurred. Going back to the 2005 interview with Stan Lee and JJ Abrams, Mark stated that he wanted to see Luke turn to the Dark Side in Return of the Jedi but it never happened so we may get to see Luke turn to the Dark Side in the Last Jedi just as Harrison wanted Han Solo to be killed in the original trilogy but died in the Force Awakens.

Not all of the posters have the villain looming over the good guys as you pointed out mike. Mostly it's Darth Vader who was shown, but he was absolutely central to the story. I think it's because as has been said by Kathleen Kennedy that Luke is highly significant to the film. The director Rian Johnson said that Luke and Rey are the beating heart of this film. Luke was notably absent in the marketing of TFA and had mere seconds of screen time in the actual film, so this time they are putting him front and center. They are making it totally clear to us fans that Luke will be the main focus and not just a plot device this time around. The film is named "The Last Jedi", which has been used as the description for Luke. Luke is looming over everyone because this is his film like TFA was Han's and IX was to be Leia's.

Kinda like a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde split personality I think..
Kylo turning caused him to snap..
He kills his students, destroys his temple and walks away to isolate himself from the universe..
If he fails to train his own nephew.. his star pupil.. the grandson of Anakin Skywalker.. how can he train any one else..
He then becomes a myth... hiding away from everyone. Seeking a way to balance both the light.. and the dark.. Aphra comics mention a splinter group from the Jedi order that was called the Jedi Aspectu..
They looked for a balance as well..
      Just a though..
But Aphra could be Rey's mother...
Why else create a character that works as a scavenger for Vader.. finding Jedi artifacts..
      Her and Luke cross paths..

This has some possibility but i don't really want to. I'm basing this on Mark Hamill's comments after he read the script for The Last Jedi. He told Ryan Johnson "i don't like what you're doing with this character but i will do my best with my acting abilities to portray what you want me to do with him." Idk that's the only thing i can think of.

    • @chadmiller4601
      @chadmiller4601 6 років тому +2

Hamill has made it clear those comments about questioning the direction of his character were out of context and that he is thrilled with this film, working with Rhian Johnson and is very much on board and loving Star Wars. The bullshit comments from folks about Disney are so misinformed. Disney purchased the rights to star wars to be able to make toys as did Lucas and profit from New films and Mark the catalog of characters primarily for merchandise and if clearly study their level of involvement and motives you will realize Lucasfiln is STILL in control running things as they normally would still under the decisions of Kathleen Kennedy. These directors and writers are doing their visions and they are making great star wars trilogy. Disney isn't some on the set dictator calling the plot twists and turns, the scripts, the casting, the stories. It is I assure that many people are misinformed or judging without knowing very little has been changed or done by Disney. This is very similar to how they own marvel but marvel studios is making the films and calling the direction shots and stories are actually plot based on actual comics storylines to large degree.

Hey Mike, I agree...from my point of view the only valid reason for Luke to go into hiding was as a self imposed exile...I think something happened at the Jedi temple where he lost control of the force ....discovering “it’s so much bigger”
He disappears in an attempt so that it will never happen again, hoping it will end with him “it’s time for the Jedi to end”
Now when he sees Ray he is shocked and scared as he knows this won’t end...tries to warn her “this won’t go the way you think”
He wants to keep this information from Snoke but in the end I believe he will unleash his full power again to save Ray, but in so doing reveal to Snoke setting up the plot for episode IX

...or perhaps Luke needed an antagonist and a protagonist (Kylo and Rey) in order to keep your friends close and your enemies (Snoke) even closer, so he could find a way to defeat him... meaning Luke instructed Ben (Kylo Ren) to befriend Snoke. I do think that Luke has gone a bit stir crazy over the years of him being a recluse for so long.

If you recall in AOC when Anakin fights Dooku, as they battle, the lightsabers flash half Red/ half Blue on Anakin's face, foreshadowing his conflict between light and dark. Could be seeing the same type foreshadowing here, not a turn to the dark, but just personal conflict. Or it could be showing in Luke's case that he has found out that a balance between light and dark are necessary, not an adherence to one or the other.

Notice Leia is also in the middle of the posters...perhaps both twins are fighting the light and darkness but Leia's battle isn't as noticeable as Luke's is. perhaps that is why Carrie was to have a bigger role in Ep 9- we would have seen that battle in someway. Think about Leia's experiences from Ep 4 forward... I can certainly see this battle... It was hinted on Ep 7 I felt

I'm pretty sure, Kylo thinks he defeats Luke when they destroy the tree. Rey see's this and Luke being unwilling to train her and not knowing which way to go she leaves with Kylo, obviously that offer still stands with him. She's brought to Snoke's Star Destroyer where it looks like he's testing her or helping to unleash her power.

As for the poster is concerned, I don't think it has any specific meaning, except that Luke is the most important character of the film, and the most popular character, And so for that reason, it makes sense to me, that Luke's image stands out the most on the poster. because he is the main character, he's the most popular character, and after all these years, Star Wars fans like myself, are finally looking forward to seeing him.

I had a really cool thought the other day it probably is not going to come out to be true because we do know a little bit about Benicio del Toro's character but I was just thinking how they haven't really shown anything to do with him at all not in the trailer either so I was kind of thinking with snoke having this force drain power what if he Force drains one of our Jedi or for sensitive people in the movie or even a force ghost and then it heals him and makes him even younger than he currently is from what we're seeing in the all the advertisements but because he becomes even younger he then turns into Benicio del Toro was just thinking that would be a super awesome twist for the end of the movie probably won't happen but just a thought what do you think Mike

My take is that he did something nefarious in the past. He isn't so much as hiding. But trying to piece where all went wrong by himself. I don't think this is just about Kylo going sith. There's something more that hasn't been revealed, which will be discovered through Rey's POV. And I think that will be the big twist in the movie.

Since "The Force Awakens" kept its plot similar to "A New Hope" , if you take the the line from Obi-Wan, when Luke asks him what happened to his father, and he tells him Darth Vader betrayed and killed him, the only comparable moment like that in "The Force Awakens", is when Han is talking to Rey and Finn about what happened to Luke and that his apprentice destroyed everything. Now with all of that being said, What Obi-Wan told Luke was a half truth (I guess?) so translating that over to "The Force Awakens", what Han told Rey and Finn probably has some half truth to it. Ben Solo (Skywalker?) the "Last Jedi"? If ya ever go off that.

What do you guys think?

  • @JohanMsWorld
    @JohanMsWorld 6 років тому

I agree on that if he really is on the darkside it would be a great and chocking revelations to both Rey and us. What play in line with this is also "Sometimes its difficult tom meet youre heroues since they might not be whom you think they are." as well as the collor of Lukes wardrobe throughout the movie. It is a possibility that he "slipped" while experimenting with dark side forces and has to be pushed back to the light by Rey. It might also be a reason til why he thinks "The Jedi must end" and it will create a great obstacle for Rey to overcome. But I do not think Disney wants t upset the audience to much and to made Luke a thrue all out dark side villain might be to much for us to swallov - Even is he is redemed by Rey. So my guess is that his darkness is an obstactle for Ray - Our heroine - to climb before she can start her Jedi traning. Remember that Yoda played with this theme on Lulke at Dagobah. Johan.

His location on top of The Last Jedi poster has nothing to do with him being a villain in the movie. Every character is strategically placed where they are to make up the image of Darth Vader. In order for this to be possible, Luke had to be at the top with his hood up.

Mike Zeroh, Luke channeled his anger to strike Vader down. He's obviously conflicted. So, in the first trailer for Luke to say that the Jedi must end, Luke is quite obviously the last of the Jedi, Ben Solo burns his temple down and killed his students, I think one can say that Luke represents both the dark and the light. The only question I have until the film comes out is whether or not Luke is just simply lost? And if so, where are the force ghosts of Yoda and Obi Wan to help guide him? Or did he simply tune them out?

I think it's pretty clear. The poster image depicting Luke's face reflecting Kylo and Rey's lightsabers implies a division within akin to a yin yang symbol. The Last Jedi seems more than anything to be about Luke's more evolved, broader perspective of the nature of the force. My feeling is he now perceives the force as non-dualistic in nature. I envision his period in exile was primarily spent reflecting and meditating on uncovered lore predating the Jedi or the Sith in which force users wield the force as an instrument of will. They then transmute it by their intent. I suspect Luke has found techniques to utilize what he previously perceived as dark side energy, transforming its power into a tool to serve the greater good. For lack of a better term, this would be the often mentioned grey jedi. Rey clearly seemed to be performing this inner alchemy on an instinctive basis when her rage gave her enough ability with a lightsaber to very nearly defeat Kylo, who we must assume has received a great deal of training.

Jedi want to destroy the SIth, and the Sith want to destroy the Jedi. But the whole thing about the force is that the Light and Dark side need to be balanced. I think thats why Luke said the Jedi are over.

Have you all read the backstory for Luke that Mark Hammill talks about in the Entertainment Weekly interview its not in the movie but he uses it to portray what Luke has been through after Return of the Jedi and put him in the right mindset. "He fell in love with a woman who was a widow and had this young child. He left the Jedi to raise this young child and marry this woman, and the child got hold of a lightsaber and accidentally killed himself.” Thats quoted from the interview. Pretty grim if you ask me. So Luke is a mess and lost it seems.

As a diehard fan well versed in Star Wars canon, the EU, I'm concerned Luke's power will not be accurately portrayed in TLJ. As the chosen one, he conquered the Knights of Ren, defeated a reborn Palpatine/Darth Sidious, could pilot the Millennium Falcon single-handedly and flawlessly with the Force alone, and he mastered the art of Force Speed where he could move so quickly during combat that Leia could not track his movements. Although I truly like the introduction of Rey, her character arc is definitely more of the Disney variety. Without any knowledge of the Force and having never touched a lightsaber, she somehow bests Kylo Ren who was trained by both Luke and Snoke. Even worse, in the trailer, Luke is presented as a reluctant babysitter who becomes terrified when she unintentionally splits rock while meditating. Considering the daunting challenges/enemies Luke has overcome and the sheer amount of knowledge gained from Yoda/Obi-Wan and his personal study of ancient Jedi texts, this storyline seems as whimsically contrived, commercially adapted for a millennial audience, as it is disconnected from the detailed nuances of the actual Star Wars universe. Although I will always support the franchise regardless, I just want to see equal credence/respect given to those transcendent characters that made today's installments possible.

I LOVE The Force Awakens. However, I was surprised that Snoke (albeit he was a hologram) wasn't very scary or menacing like they made Vader in A New Hope . Could Snoke be a smokescreen for another Villain. Luke perhaps? Or perhaps Rey turns to the dark side?

My theory is that since the clone wars TV show is cannon, that means the father/son/daughter is cannon. Luke/Kylo/Rey may be the new incarnations of each and it will be their job to keep the balance. Snoke could be a character much like Abeloth from the EU.

The WISH that Luke is the villain is just that, a WISH. He isn't going to the dark side, he didn't kill his students and burn down his Jedi Temple. NONE of that makes the least bit of sense, especially given the fear Snoke has of Luke returning and building a new Jedi order.
So what does the poster mean? It pretty much means, to me, that Rey and Kylo are , as I heard elsewhere, are "2 sides of the same coin" and Luke will eventually be the one that get s them united to defeat Snoke.

We don't know how bad Snoke really is or how powerful. We know he seems able to drain the Force from people as it shows him doing in the trailer. What if Luke and Kylo are working together to bring down Snoke? That would mean he likely orchestrated the attack on his temple, possibly to keep Snoke from draining the students and to put Kylo over with Snoke to get him on the inside. We know Kylo speaks to his grandfather, but is this delusional, or is Anakin communicating with Kylo Ren and using his history as a Sith Lord to aid Kylo in his double agent mission. There is a good chance that to many Star Wars and Jedi purists, what will be considered Gray, will be a little too astray, despite it's practicality against a far more powerful enemy.
