Just like most ppl, they can’t tell the difference between good or bad vocals and good or bad sound system. Vocals coming out of a PA are very hard to get to sound good or clear. It’s so much harder than any instrument. That’s why even some pros with much better sound systems than this sound shitty live. If this kid sang this in a studio with a studio mic and equalizers everyone would be talking about how great he sounds. And on the flip side these ppl think garbage singers with nothing but auto tune and compressors sound great when they actually blow. Kid did a great job.

Kolby Taylor yes sir. I saw it. Honestly, we were all just kids and some of us really wanted it and others were just casual about it. Nothing to do with anybody just when you realize that it takes a whole team with fire in their souls to make it, it’s best to move on. Some of the guys still play in bands. As far as I know. Some just abandoned it altogether. It’s all good. I’m where I want to be. Back then I swore I would never sing and front a band. Times change! Thanks for commenting. PS- all of those guys are talented. People are tough on them. 12 year olds aren’t going to be anywhere near perfect.
Lol, totally what I was thinking. Hes all chill then steps out all calm like with the Paul slung low, rips a solo then back into the shadows. Hes got no idea how awesome High School is gonna be with swag that early. He must have cool parents.
He is right in the middle of a voice change at his age, But he had a fabulous sounding voice broken only by that change. I could tell he also knows where the notes are and hears himself correctly but, by far his best attribute is that he is fearless and full of energy. this video is old. I guarantee you he sings like rock and roll clown today. The whole band was killer.

Hey, it’s Stratton, the lead guitarist in the video. You are watching my channel. Please check out my other videos on this channel. I still perform both with a band and solo. Hit that subscribe button to tag along. More details below. Also, I just wanted to say thanks to all who stopped in and left comments. This was 5 years ago now outside of Jazz Fest in New Orleans. The band didn’t go on for long after this, mainly just competing priorities in childhood. As for the other guys in the band, I am not sure if any of them are actually still performing? I have heard that the lead singer is not performing any more and the rhythm guitar is playing Jazz in New Orleans. I continued to play, sitting in with bands around town. Soon, I had my own projects again. A short time doing GNR Tribute stuff, and then I started a Van Halen tribute with some guys in Atlanta (where we had recently moved). That was at 14 years old. I am 17 now. My Van Halen Tribute has played all over the country, including some super cool places like The Whisky in Hollywood and several House of Blues bookings. That will be over in August of this year (2020). I’m now working on my own stuff, writing, and singing (you can find some of those videos here on this channel). I have a dream to make a career out of original music. Thanks again for supporting! Stratton
I am in my 50s and I realized that I was watching you play, you basically lost me when you placed the pick in your hands. After that, I had no friggin idea how you did that.....At 14 I was still figuring out how to make change at the Stop and Shop.

Stratton you nailed this song along with the rest of your band. By the looks of the large crowd they enjoyed it too. I love seeing younger generation pick up where we left off. Long Live Rock!
Middle school was never again the same for young Stratton nor his friends in the band for some reason; the bullies in the hallways were more subdued now, and the girls... well... that is another story. Rock on, dudes. KDM
This also happened to me in Jr. High. I was teased and bullied until the jazz concert in front of the whole school where I played my guitar. Not only was I never teased again, it was nothing but respect from then on. Music was my savior and became my life. I played with the Temptations, backed up Jerry Lewis’ show, worked with Little Richard, Dizzy Gillespie, and many many more. Things turned out ok. And yes, I’m still practicing yet today!

if only the mic has more quality
He IS only 12 here. Give it time

Out of Key. Yes
Lol hes a little kid
He sings better than most of us
Not enough people are talking about how good that kids voice is
Bruh
Because his voice was nothing special.
VonTonSoup Agreed
Just like most ppl, they can’t tell the difference between good or bad vocals and good or bad sound system. Vocals coming out of a PA are very hard to get to sound good or clear. It’s so much harder than any instrument. That’s why even some pros with much better sound systems than this sound shitty live. If this kid sang this in a studio with a studio mic and equalizers everyone would be talking about how great he sounds. And on the flip side these ppl think garbage singers with nothing but auto tune and compressors sound great when they actually blow. Kid did a great job.

Kolby Taylor that was 5 years ago. We all went our own ways about 6 months later. I’m 17 now. I moved to Atlanta.
@@strattonjamesmusic in that video someone commented that youd probably leave the band and they said you by far outdid the rest of the band

He is right in the middle of a voice change at his age, But he had a fabulous sounding voice broken only by that change.
Stratton
Love the Jazz Fest, been there to see Panic many a times ✌️ keep rocking buddy
