Homemade Vs. Store-Bought: Macaroni and Cheese

Here is what you'll need!
SIX-CHEESE MACARONI AND CHEESE
Servings: 10-12
INGREDIENTS
¼ cup butter
¼ cup flour
2½ cups milk
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoon mustard powder
½ teaspoon cayenne
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar (divided)
½ cup shredded Gruyère
½ cup shredded provolone
1 cup shredded mozzarella (divided)
½ cup shredded Colby Jack
½ cup shredded Gouda
1 pound macaroni, cooked al dente
¼ cup panko bread crumbs
PREPARATION
In a pot over medium-high heat, melt the butter and whisk in the flour until well-incorporated, about one minute.
Add the milk a few tablespoons at a time, whisking constantly until absorbed. It will clump up initially. Keep adding the milk until fully absorbed and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Reduce the heat to low and add garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, cayenne, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Add a ½ cup of cheddar, Gruyère, provolone, ½ cup of mozzarella, Colby Jack, and Gouda. Stir until smooth.
Add the cooked macaroni and mix until fully coated.
Pour the mac and cheese into a baking dish and top with the remaining mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and bread crumbs.
Broil on high for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

Kraft mac and cheese, with some real cheese added to the sauce, then add a lil cheese on top with some bread crumbs and broil for 5-10 mins, that shits pretty tasty and allot cheaper.
I use normal macaroni and basically do the six cheese one without 5 of em. Who has the money to pay for six bloody cheeses.

I tried the 1-pot mac and cheese and it is delicious! The only thing is it is a little rich for my taste. But I used it with penne pasta and it turned out great in my opinion!
The nice thing about the boxed mac and cheese is that you can always add in some of the flavours and spices from the final recipe, and add in some shredded cheese as well for extra flavour! My favourite when I need me some boxed mac is adding in a bit of shredded smoked cheddar or regular cheddar, some chipotle hot sauce, onion powder, and worchestershire sauce, and if I have any a spoonful or so of plain yogurt (greek yogurt is the BEST) - makes it extra creamy and flavourful and makes me feel fancy AF.

lol that's fair - it's plain yogurt though (no flavour or sweetening) so it doesn't really taste like much except dairy, and usually only about a tablespoon at most.

Ed Jackson I don't think it would work. Bechamel sauce is like really milky dough. Best to just boil it in the milk for a creamy texture, or possibly cream could work? But that might also be a bit too thick.

Made the homemade mac and cheese and wow! It was really creamy and tasty! I did add some white pepper and garlic powder to it, and instead of 2 cups of cheddar cheese I did equal parts cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese to have a slightly mild cheesy taste to it. It's absolutely tasty and amazing! Definitely going into the recipe book haha

Belgium here! Never eaten mac and cheese but I have eaten mac and cheese AND ham! We're absolutely no cheddar eaters so we mostly use white cheese like emmental (in the bechamel sauce) and the ham makes it so good!! we also "gratin" it under the broiler...

Instead of milk for the second recipe, I use heavy cream instead. I boil thr macaroni in water, drain, add heavy cream and let that heat up. Then I add the cheese little by little, and voala, the result is super creamy, cheesy mac n cheese.
