If Howie can pretend to be funny, Joe can pretend to be a Dragonborn Paladin.
Yeah this is on Howie's show and the top comment is dissing him, which I agree with.
I dont know if he is funny in other situations, Ive seen him almost not at all, buit just from this episode, holy crap he comes off like a huge douche with no social/emotional awareness.
Calling the dog "that"
Making fun of DnD showing clear condescension
Asking to join in the DnD group but just "watch" (like observe the nerds in amazement")
Then told he'd have to make a character so he makes a joke character because he still cant take it seriously.
Makes fun of of Paul Reubens. This one is understandable if hes not aware of their friendship, but it is true thats him being arrested was maybe kinda dumb. I mean the arresting was deserved but not what happened to his career because of it, put it that way.
Keeps asking Joe about projects that did poorly
Dismisses his comment about being pigeonholed - Again this was probably meant as a compliment, but a more thoughtful person would have said it differently.
The whole thing makes me think of two cliches:
- Someone who isnt funny attempting to be funny. Being funny is an art and when someone is not good they can say rude things in attempt to be funny but they just arent good at striking the right tone etc, so it feels bad.
- Someone who has been rich and the center of attention their whole lives so they dont think about other people or how they feel.
@@luminousdragon Thanks for letting me know to block this asshole
@@luminousdragonwell, you broke it down better than I could’ve. Thanks for saving me the work!
@@shinankoku2 Haha, no problem
I just want to be clear, its really easy to spread anonymous hate online, and I dont want to do that. Im not saying hes a bad person or anything, Im just saying from this one interview, theres some red flags, and he COMES OFF as a douche, but that doesnt mean he is one actually.
Also, Joe was late to the show, and Howie might have felt disrespected he he didnt know why originally.
Just trying to be fair.
Maybe If I watch more episodes this will be a one off experience lol.
@@luminousdragon totally get you, dude. I think you’re insights are spot on, and I respect the context that you’re giving for your remarks. You’re right: I don’t think Howie is an evil person or anything, but he doesn’t come off as a very complementary person here. Not that this means anything to you, but I have a completely obnoxious cousin who Howie started to remind me of halfway through this.
Also, to be perfectly honest, I know I’m not 100% unbiased here: I’m a D&D nerd, and Joe is a hero of mine. He’s proof you really can have it all!
Man, Joe is perfect to play Space Wolves on a Warhammer 40k movie.
Him and Henry Cavill need to get it going
Him as either russ, bjorn, or ragnar!!
I’ve been playing D&d since 1998
I have gotten so many friends into it and I’m teaching my kids how to play. It’s a great way to story tell and promote imagination.
Looks like a nice TV series
Man f#ck this guy, that maid joke was hilarious Howie
crink cronk
Man, you didn’t even take the time to learn how to pronounce his name correctly? And you have him on your show?
I cannot for the life of me fathom why people are shocked that an actor is into D&D. D&D is acting with friends.
Joe Mangianello is a hero to the D&D community. Also guy has deserved a lot more for his effort in the past 5 years (in terms of acting gigs etc), sad to hear he has been stonewalled.
Is he?
@@MikaeruDaiTenshi He is famous, and he is championing, promoting and defending D&D against the ignorant and judgmental. So yes I would say he is.
@@MikaeruDaiTenshi
He is mostly famous in DnD for his character Arkhan which he played on a popular DnD stream called Critical Role where in the campaign, Arkhan betrayed the other characters and stole the hand of Vecna.
I know him as Arkhan, but that doesn't make him a DnD-Community-Hero.
@@EmpireFanatic I knew of his dungeon and that he played with other famous people, I also know of his variant Death Rolls he showed Stephen Colbert. But that he's promoting and defending D&D in any meaningful way? Never heard of that.
I mean, it's cool if it's true, but calling him a hero for that, I don't know.
By insulting Joe Manganiello's passion for D&D, Howie Mandell marked himself for death.😋🤣
The thing is though I do think it was really an insult as much as it was just the ignorance to what D&D is. It came off more stupid than insulting to me.
"Oh you're gunna insult me about me liking d&d? Bro you're scared of germs, nerd."
Joe is a very honest and straight forward man. A perfect match to Sofia who is not only pretty but very intelligent. They both have an excellent humor.
He would have been such a good Deathstroke. But as a nerd and a TTRPG fan I truly hope all of his D&D stuff comes together. He deserves, he is humble, doesnt hide the fact the his is basically a dork. And he is always being positive, even when he is upset about something, he tries to be nice about it.
I agree with you, but that's such a bad way to use the word "dork". He is not a dork in any sense of the word.
Joe is not a "dork", he's a "nerd". Everyone in the world is a "nerd" (has passion) at something in their lives. He's just that way towards D&D and sports. Nothing wrong with that.
@@Qtipz123 lol ok.
Joe has crazy BDE, you tease him about D&D and he just chuckles and tells you about how he doesn't have room at his table for you to join.. Very classy of him to invite Howie. I really hope he takes him up on it.
He's a cool dude and it took me just like 5 minutes to be okay with the fact that he's not going to talk more about the dog because the rest got interesting.
Joe is to DnD as Henry is to 40K
Glad to hear Joe got a hold of the Dragonlance books he wanted. Sounds like he's working on a series rather than a film.
please be Drangonlance, PLEASE be talking about Dragonlance!
Howie trying to be funny... actually comes off as very insulting. I knew there was a reason why I never liked him.
Oh man, the Deathstroke story just made me so depressed. The director of RAID THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC!!!! Joe would have been amazing as Deathstroke. The suit was beautiful.
Also, people who look down at role-play and D&D always look so stupid when they make fun of it. They clearly have never played or watched anyone play. These games are the catalysts for so many cool films (stories) and film makers going into the business (story telling).
By the way Howie, I'm a Girl (Latina in fact) and I am a massive nerd from the 80s so before it was cool to be a nerd. I know many amazing cute women who love nerd things. And as you can see, there are tons of hot nerd guys. So calm your ignorance down bro. - Kristy
The thing about being a "nerd" is basically everyone is a "nerd". We all have different interests we are passionate about. Joe is passionate about D&D, sports, storytelling/acting and he lives it out. It's basically who he is.
There's nothing bad about being a "nerd", we are all "nerds" in one way or another.
I'm glad the term has somewhat changed from what it used to be. I remember growing up, being a "nerd" meant that you were smart, dorky, and dressed a certain way. I'm glad it's since been changed to mean something else entirely.
This is a great interview by Joe Manganiello. :)
Howie needs to learn that most CREATIVES played and still play TTRPGs. I say this because we're leaving D&D & heading over to Paizo after the Jan. Debacle.
100% This is EXACTLY how Gaming is... Creatives create... LOLOL Howie's a BARD. Pure & Simple. Vicious Mockery... Charm Person...
I never knew Joe was classically trained makes sense his range is vast .. I'll be sure to tune in ..Great episode
21:14 Host says in a surprised and unguarded comment “You’re actually really funny” and Joe lets the backhanded compliment slide. Unlike the interviewer, Joe has class.
Really sounds like so much fun
D&D was fun when I was Younger and this sounds like the best possible version with some of thee most creative minds possible .
Awesome 👍
dude someone give this guy a fucking action movie sci fi nerd super hero anything I love his energy for the love of heroic badass films wtf hollywood no one wanted Ben Affleck to be Batman anyway we need more guys like this
Here's what I don't like, I'm a professional dungeon master. And most tables I run ranging from 2 - 6 players have at least one woman on average. So, I don't understand the whole 'girls don't like D&D'.
I love the whole "Go paint something" and it sold for $150k
Love the dragonlance sticker on his phone! Excited to see that come to the screen led by someone so passionate about it!
I'm so over the narrative that if you pick up dice you can't pick up weights. So happy to see people like Joe and Henry Cavill stand up for their nerdiness but godamn the fact they have to because they are good looking and in shape is just tiring. Howie was fully able to see a room full of people happily playing a game and cast shitty judgments on them and that's all I need to know about the guy.
Oh my good... Howie is so full of predjuge! It's weird hearing that nowadays, with so much info, we still have people who act like that. Is not even funny...
Saw Manganiello in many things over the years b4 I realized he was Flash in Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies. I'm not usually like that. I put a feather in my cap most times at recognizing people at various stages in their careers and life through pictures, celebrity or not. He's one of the few that threw me for a loop...lol
I played D&D in the eighties . we had girls playing. Nobody was excluded
How can the chat say Community Guidelines when Howie was being disrespectful to his guest by getting his name wrong and talking shit about Arnold and shit. I understand it’s his show, but damn.
That dog is covering the Hand of Vecna, you fools! Show some respect!
this made me a huge fan of Joe!
*SPOILER if you havent watched the end of Critical Role Campaign 1*
Going onto Crit Role, cutting off his characters hand and taking vecnas in its place was metal af
Bonus episode, I'm all for it, you've been one of my go to podcasts lately
I’m so happy to hear that dog is a rescue and they were able to save her and give her a good life
At 18:15...the "old jew" D&D character that complains...well there are Bard's and cutting words...that would be hilarious.
"What? We were just being friendly and you started attacking us? What does that say about you? 🤷♂ " (read in old jewish guy voice)
God I wish Manganiello gets to play Deadshot in a DC film
Howie’s complete lack of preparation for this interview is such a disrespect to Joe
The interviewer disrespects Joe Manganiello by mispronouncing his name, murdering it actually. Then asks questions and a split second later while Joe answers, gets interrupted. And this is within 3 minutes into the video. What kind of hosting style is this?
Totally agree. The interruptions are so annoying!
Another great podcast! Love what you and your beautiful kids put together!!!
Okay i know whats missing from my D&D game..a food truck. Amazing ..lol
It is nerdy. Nerdy is not a bad word. The US is so behind. /Sweden
Great chat , awesome to see you twice this week. Love Jackelyn s idea for your Dungeons and Dragon character....... " Super Mohel "
This was awesome interview…never heard him interviewed before.
Good for joe to take care of and love his dog. More people should be like that
I love the Dragonlance sticker on the back of his phone
Man can’t wait to see what Joe puts out in the next couple of years!
Bottom of the 9th is fantastic! Love hearing more about Joe! Love love love the podcast 😍
7:45 Getting into DnD
Not a fanboy ahah
Holy hand of Vecna I would love to play at his table.
Joe was interesting and lovely!
I always describe D&D as a book where the GM is the writer/narrator and the characters in the book are the characters you create and play and it is based on your actions but the results are randomized.
An MMO where the game server is a person.
I like Brennan Lee Mulligans take. DnD is a dice game, and youre gambling with stories
Pretty awesome to hear the knowledge and enthusiasm about d&d etc!
Such a good episode. Love Joe so much.
I've binged every episode over the last couple weeks. I need this as a daily show.
You always talk about being a mental health advocate and always worry about cancel culture.......You should really get Roseanne on.
So how far back did people realize that Annie Lennox and her generation could be Board Members for us owning Sony/20thy Cenutry Fox and television with Les Moonvbees, Barbara Streisand and Julie Chen? Did they freak out? Love, Don xoxo
OH PLEASE!
Give Howie a BARD!
With "negative" inspiration!
So more like the BANE spell on the enemies 🤣🤣
I love Paul. Never looked down on him for yanking it, but it did make for him being the butt of the joke. He came back and showed he was more than pee-wee. He was excellent in his role on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune as the Villian of Joel McHale.
When will Howie do Celebrity Wheel of Fortune?
As a 90s kid what I heard he did and what he ACTUALLY did could not be more different. It's tragic, they basically fed him to the sensationalized rumor-mill. It wasn't until I was an adult that I found out he's not a predator.
Howie, I love you man. I get you don't understand any "nerd" culture. Which is fine, nobody says you have to. You should understand that millions and millions of people are into things you're not. That be men or women or however anyone wants to identify themselves.
From the looks of it Joe is only on here as a favor for his wife.
He didnt really. Also, " The old Jew" Well, thats going to be a Bard, theres going to be a lot of Tashas Hideous laughter, and Ottos irresistable dance, and cutting Barbs, and lets have at it. I want to work the throwing weapon the Ms. mentioned, but Im more curious what Joe would make of it... EDit : "Do you do impressions..?" Joe, the DM, has a 'T-1000' interface scroll behind his eyes... "Yea, I do impressions..."
oh man if Joe gets his hand on some drow novels it would be AMAZING!
The legend of Hume?!?!?!?!!
I hope he still gets to play deathstroke
I swear that Howie is doing this shit on propose, Show so damn respect to your guest for crying out loud.
I don't think he means to be this way. He just is this way.
I first knew of Howie from Bobby's World growing up, then his whole germaphobe thing. He hasn't really changed that much.
Yeah, I'm a great musician, but because it didn't work out, I'm doomed to work in restaurant and retail, no matter how good I am. I went to college too. Got an Associates. Unfortunate that these days, an Associates is equivalent to what a high school diploma was 20 to 30 years ago...I'm unemployed and facing homelessness. I wanted to be a productive member of society, but apparently, society doesn't want me...
I love this and several celeb led podcasts because they reveal the person and not the celeb act. Howie aint perfect but none of us are. Put him on stage and he is a pro at what he does. Tell him to be human and we see that he is human.
I like the podcast idea of howie and guests discussing business ventures and smart financing. The fails the successes. Bankers and businesspersons can be supporting guests as well.
Didn't Bill Burr open a production company for comics so that comedians would not be bamboozled out of their money with other cleptowood agendies.
Property investments, retail ventures , etc. All interesting to learn from
Howie love your pod!!! It literally makes me laugh every ep
He really didn’t though lol. He made the same 3 jokes everyone makes about adults playing d&d and 5 minutes later he wants to come to the table and they’re theorycrafting his character.
Is that the bully from spider-man? If so I wouldn't want to fight me either 🌴🤣😎✌️☮️
I'm halfway through the video waiting for Joe to mention playing D&D with the cast of Critical Role. If anyone wants to see Joe play D&D he comes in here in their first campaign: ua-cam.com/video/zUXL--sSc3A/v-deo.html
joe was going to be deathstroke and we were going to get an origin movie?!?! Well fuck.....
Howie could role play the Sicilian from the Princess Bride
Inconthievable
Howie is a bully...
I remember when Howie used to be funny. He was a good comedian when he was younger.
i would have loved to see that origin story.
Omg was joe meant to play deathstroke in the cancelled batfleck movie? The more he described it the more it sounded like it. Man that sucks it was cancelled, bet he wouldve killed it in that role.
Well yes, it was Deathstroke.
There's only one other like him and that's Deadpool (but that's Marvel and more comedic). Deathstroke is still the original, funny enough is that is also where Deadpool was formed from.
Dude I just saw that movie on Netflix and had no idea it existed until about a month ago. I would've definitely seen that in theaters if I had seen a trailer... anyway, I watched it and loved it! Great movie
Where is the big show?
What a good guy.
They had to release a second episode this week so Jackelyn could do stuff too 😄
It’s not the same without her.
The Old Jew....the New D&D Monk. I would love to see that
Howie, you redeemed yourself this week with this bonus podcast. Thanks for thinking of your audience..
The sports talk is even more boring than the DND speak
There are lots of characters in Dungeons and Dragons
I want to see them play D&D. Or any other RPG ha ha.
And that is why you have 145k subs
Guffaw. Means a big belly laugh.
What happened to his muscles?
yes he looks very different--maybe a film role
@@mattgiunt he looks very thin too I hope he’s ok
@@crystalvera9560 Maybe he just stopped a steroid cycle
He's off cycle.
He does a poor job at explaining what is D&D to a non-initiated. Usually he's better at it. In his defense, it's a really hard game to explain, and Howie just wants to make jokes about it.
This is the best explanation I've ever heard (Thomas Middleditch on James Corden's show, 4 min.): ua-cam.com/video/pnx7W0W1WeU/v-deo.html
He basically says that if you and 4 of your friends can sit around a table and imagine the same things, and that when there's a contest of anything that you want to happen you roll dice to decide, you're playing D&D. You collectively make up an epic story akin to Lord of the Rings that is entirely your own and exist only in your mind (and your friend's).
bo benis
So is Lou just never coming back?
I hope not.
@@RolandSpecialSauce me neither. Lou made the podcast different than other interview podcasts. I was always annoyed by the people that wanted to get rid of him, because they probably were just trolls that don't even watch or listen any longer. It's bullshit that a few whiners can change things that way.
Howie is bugging me here....
Has Howie never heard of board games ? It's like basically a board game that last longer and includes aspects of acting/improv or role playing.
Joe has guitarists hands..
who is this Howie guy?
So, in other words...it's amazing what you can accomplish if you're rich and famous.
Get Pee Wee on the podcast
It's actually quite rare for boxers to died in the ring. I wonder which fight Howie took his daughter to.
