@@mariezenaida you are right about his speaking voice. He indeed has a light, high and soft speaking voice in contrast to his dramatic and dark singing voice. Kind of strange. Many other tenors actually have deeper and more resonant speaking voices however their singing voices are lighter and less dramatic or dark than Kaufmanns. Weird like that dont you think?
@@dreamthedream8929 Head voice engagement and also higher larynx position. There's many bigger voiced people who talk in the 3rd octave, giving the illusion their voice is smaller. Kind of a weird example, but former NBA player Richard Jefferson has a very hooty and kind of high speaking voice on TV broadcasts, but I heard him slip all the way down to around a D2 when he was mumbling during a podcast interview. Speaking voices can be deceiving.
@@somerandomguy84 but i think that kaufmans speaking voice doesnt match his big singing voice. Mostly opera singers speak the way they sing, in the same range and of course with loud and resonant voice as they have trained like that. His speaking voice if soft without much resonance, light and high compared to his lower resonant singing voice. Simply put i wouldnt expect a voice like that to come out of him when he sings based on his speaking voice. While other tenors, baritones and basses when they talk yeah i can see how they could sing the way they do, it matches well
It was fantastic to see Fanciulla in cinemas! Thank you once again for a stunning production! This was the first time I had seen Fanciulla, although I'd listened to some of the music before (and Andrew Lloyd Webber obviously has). Kaufmann's voice is so powerful, but what does it for me is his acting. Every character he portrays on stage comes to life!
I hope he is paid. This is on the Met’s own channel and vividly illustrates how the company is caught between the stars in the foreground and the company members who make it all work in the background - falling down and getting back up

I love Eva and Jonas who were vocally and artistically fantastic in this opera. The entire cast was also great. It was such an entertaining performance!! C❤❤
I don't know if this version is available on DVD, but the Domingo-Milnes-Daniels performance at the Met years earlier is. I love the 1992 version. Here's a link: www.imdb.com/title/tt0256020/

Brilliant performances by all, especially the conductor who this idiot "interviewer" left until last and cut off leaving him rushing back to pit. MET really needs audience questions instead of this idiot to avoid wasting time and insulting the leads by talking about playing cards while actors roll their eyes waiting for any query about the actual performance.
People comment sometimes that he is baritonal, but listen to that speaking voice. He is a tenor. A gloriously rich tenor.
ediblemarie actually on this video he has a terribly tired voice
@@FilonProd Oh, I hear that too, a bit. But I've heard him speak on other videos also.

@@Tsquare07s this is opera has some odd views sure but a lot of what they say is spot on.
I saw this performance at the Met, and it was glorious to experience.

The interviewer is renowned American soprano Susanna Phillips. She's sung leading roles at the Met practically every year since around 2010.
