      In my opinion, it’s
      4. R.A.M.
      3. Human After All
      1. Homework & Discovery
      I feel people under appreciate human after all, because if you listen to Alive 2007, human after all is a huge part of it. And it just gives Daft Punk that extra something, like, you have songs such as Robot Rock, Technologic, The Brainwasher, Human After All, and more.

    Discovery never had to be a "conceptual" masterpiece. To me as a kid, it served as a true spiritual awakening where I realized that life didn't need to always have a "concept" or a journey or goals, I could just let everything stop for a second, breathe, and let go as life washed over me. Every lyric felt like a mantra, every repetition felt like a snapshot of a moment in time, a painting in which I could either focus on all the details or take it in all at once. No other album I had listened to - even classics like Dark Side of the Moon that arguably meet the same level of musical merit or higher - induced that kind of meditative trance and irrevocably changed my perspective on the universe.
    This is why Discovery is one of the best albums of all time: it captured the ethos of dance music perfectly but elevated the production, songwriting, and stylistic innovation to such an insurmountable standard that naysayers were (and still are) forced to rethink their philosophy on music - and possibly even on life. This was certainly my experience, and it's why my favorite genres are now ambient, classical minimalism, drone, and EDM. If you let yourself slow down and immerse yourself in the soundworld, the greatest of these musics are epiphanic and restorative to the highest degree.
    11/10s tend to resemble unrefined immature hype and a misunderstanding of the concept of a ranking system, but to me, it demonstrates an album that is so mind-boggling innovative in its ideas, so meticulous in its structure, so flawless in its execution, and so personally significant to my development as a musician and as a person that the record genuinely ascends to a tier of its own. Discovery is one of a handful of albums I would personally assign that ranking.
    No matter where life takes me, I will forever be indebted to Daft Punk.

      Dude, you literally summed up my exact thoughts on Discovery. DSOTM used to be my favorite album until I listened to Discovery, and I have yet to find an album I like more.
      I too would ascend it up to an 11/10. It's perfectly crafted in an incredible way. It's trance inducing and perspective changing.
      No exaggeration, it changed my life.

    Daft Punk are my all time favorite artist. They were the artist that got me into electronic music and music in general. You made a good point in the beginning. They may continue to create solo music and/or produce for other artists. Plus maybe after some time has gone by, there is a chance the Daft Punk project may be revived. Who knows for sure. Regardless, this was a very good tribute video and I'm glad you decided to go through with it (especially since you haven't talked about Daft Punk in detail since 2015 when you started making reviews). I expected you to put Homework at the bottom given your past review of it and while I disagree with some of your opinions on the album, I can understand where you are coming from. I agree that Rock n' Roll is by far their worst track. It's literally the only Daft Punk track I don't like. I also agree with your rankings, except I'd swap the #4 and #3 picks. Discovery and RAM are two of my favorite albums period. The former is one of the few albums I've heard that I consider perfect and would give a 10 out of 10 score to.

      It depends on the artist. If Kanye announced he would retire from music I wouldn't believe it in the slightest. But usually when Daft Punk say something they follow through and it's definitely not in their nature to announce this as a publicity stunt. I wouldn't completely write off the possibility of them getting back together in the future but I find it very unlikely.

The duo produced the tracks without plans to release an album Discovery is the second studio album by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 12 March 2001 by Virgin Records. It marks a shift from the Chicago house sound prevalent on their first studio record, Homework, to a house style more heavily inspired by disco, post-disco, garage house, and R&B. As for a majority of Daft Punk rankings, this is a respectable ranking. Personally, I'd switch the placements of Homework and Human After All (and also removing tron because I haven't listened to it in years). To briefly explain why I think homework is my least favorite, I don't like how it suffers from the 70 minute length like many of 90s album suffered. But hey, that's just me.

    I listened to TRON Legacy with my friends a day before the break-up. I will always remember getting the news. I wouldn't be able to define my tastes without Daft Punk and only 3 or 4 other names have that honor. Unlike other mainstream electronic artists, for me, these guys have proven to be almost as consistent as RDJ himself when it comes to studio albums (whether you include tron or not). I'm not making myself a worst to best but here's my thoughts on the projects though
    Homework: I like this one. I respect this album (duh) but I don't think it's as good as it is respectable. It's got a bunch of bangers, it's got its filler moments, I'm not a fan of the interludes... it's just a generally cool album
    Alive 1997: ngl I haven't heard this one before
    Discovery: I'm a bit mixed on this one too. I found that tracks 1-4, 11, 13, and 14 are easily some of their best moments in their career, and well, all of electronic music, but nothing else has yet to grow on me. As for usual, I respect it, but I unfortunately respect this one more than I like it as a whole. even then, whenever I make a top 10 on these guys, I put 5 or 6 songs from Discovery onto this album. When it comes to sheer highlights, this would be my favorite no questions asked, and with the front to back experience, it's still considerable for my favorite from these guys
    Human After All: I want to like this more than I do, but it's definitely still good. I have problems with this album such as the second half of "Prime Time of Your Life" but the good moments are always worth listening to the entire thing. I almost like every moment on here though, even if my favorite on here is no where near my favorite on the other three studio albums, but I do like the direction they took with it despite not being nearly original as the other three
    Alive 2007: It's exotic, that's for sure. I have to be in the right mood for this one. Sometimes I find it to be one of the most coolest mish-mash of Daft Punk tracks ever and other times it's simply headache inducing. On top of that, I still respect it as one of the best modern live shows
    TRON Legacy OST: I love this soundtrack. One of my most listened-to soundtracks for sure. I'm just not sure what to say about it because I got almost exactly what I expected based off of judging a book by its cover. It deserved its reputation though
    Random Access Memories: I became a fan of electronic music in the early 2010s before this album dropped, and this is the most popularity I've seen grow in electronic music hands down, it selling its way into diamond status and all. This album isn't what I think of when someone says Daft Punk, but it might be my favorite because of every track (except for "Lose Yourself to Dance" because I just can't get into that track) is at least good in my eyes and my favorite moments are just simply good enough to be compared to Discovery itself, even if that's almost got more favorites in my library than the rest of my top 15 combined.
    As for their work with the Weeknd, I like "Starboy" but "I Feel it Coming" is okay. I don't really listen to them. I tend to generally have positive thoughts when the Weeknd collaborates with my favorite electronic artists now that I think of it.
    Anyways, that's my thoughts. There was nothing out there like quite like Daft Punk, especially that could make it as mainstream as they did. They did amazing to this world the moment "Da Funk" was released, let alone until now.

    I feel the same way you do about 'Human After all', I don't think it's bad, but it feels empty compared to the others. There isn't a song I dislike though. And with 'Homework' I think there's too many song's, I'm ok with long albums if it's worth it, but it's not with this one, it should have had 12 track's. I can't decide if I like 'Discovery' or 'Random Access Memories ' more. 'Doin in right' is one of my favorite songs.

  • @lightbreathermusic
    @lightbreathermusic 3 роки тому

    Here's my list (WARNING: Opinions Ahead!):
    4. Homework
    This album is weak in an album format, as it is only a compilation of singles. But there are some hidden gems here too like High Fidelity and Revolution 909.
    3. Random Access Memories
    Even though this isn't their best album, Daft Punk pull out a cohesive and well put-together album. There are some duds here and there, but overall, RAM makes for an enjoyable listen and acts as a great sendoff.
    2. Human After All
    I feel like this is the album Daft Punk wanted to make. They were in Darlin' prior to Daft Punk after all. Even with heavy use of samples with little to no modification, Daft Punk bring a more interesting aesthetic to this album by using their signature vocoders. I didn't hate any track off of this album, and, frankly, most of my favorite tracks come from this album.
    1. Discovery
    This album is a masterpiece. It not only uses samples in a creative way to create new hooks, but Daft Punk use these samples as a foundation to create something even bigger, unlike HAA, where samples were quickly plastered and looped. The album flows nicely and there are no duds in the tracklist either. I do not listen to Discovery for one song. I listen to it for the entirety of the project. Daft Punk really pulled a 180 here. Instead of making another compilation, they decide to create an experience.
    I did not include TRON because i do not consider it as a studio album, rather only as a movie score. The album was not intended to be listened to alone, yet still pulls off a satisfying listening experience.

    Daft Punk IMO:
    Homework;
    Some fantastic tracks but I'm not much a fan of it all, much prefer the re-workings on Alive 2007.
    Discovery;
    Love the first half, Face to Face and Too Long, but has quite a few filler tracks in the tail end. Again much prefer Alive 2007 for tracks on here.
    Alive 1997 and Human After All;
    Not heard.

    Tron Legacy;

    Rock'n Roll is your least favourite track? that's a shame. it's just a pure, unashamed fucking. tho admittedly i've only gotten into it years after i first heard it.
    Homework was one of the first albums i owned. but i was like 15 then and i remember finding many of the tracks "too repetitive" back then. i must have been really impatient 😅. come to think of it Human After All was the last album i owned. i stopped buying music after that, because copyright is bad.

    RAM is terrible, HAA sounds like a buch of unfinished demos, Discovery still is pretty good and Homework rocks. Alive 97 is awesome and so is 2007, despite the crappy sound quality. Their Tron Legacy soundtrack is okay, a bit on the generic side apart from a couple of tracks, like End of Line and Derezzed. I never understood the hype surrounding this band. Homework was genuinely groundbreaking (bringing the French touch to a bigger audience), but the rest of their albums..? Not so much. HAA got scathing reviews when it dropped. And yet - when RAM dropped - a lot of people treated them like they descended from the heavens upon earth and were responsible for the rise of house music.

  • @ΤάσοςΠισιμίσης-λ1μ

    For me, Random Access Memories is the worst thing Daft Punk ever done. That album is so boring that i can't stand listen almost anything from there. I like all their previous 3 albums, but ''Random Access Memories'' is ...oh my....... god damn awful.
    I would rank:
    4: Random Access Memories
    3: Homework
    2: Human After All
    1: Discovery
    ''Discovery'' is arguably their best studio album they ever done and most people will agree with that.
