Hello my friend. It is a good idea to wear the wood and use it in its natural state. Thank you for these interesting and good tips. really your imagination and talent is amazing. Thank you for sharing your interesting ideas and experiences. See you. Yours truly. big greetings...
The plain wood with black paint was my favorite. After the satin finish was applied it looked great. All four sides were fun though. Thanks for the great tips!
Perfect timing Shane, exactly what I needed for my next build which will incorporate some shiplap that I want white but aged. So I think I'll go with the love taps, black fill, white paint and sandback :D
Great tips Shane, I just finished painting a blanket box with chalk paint and then sanded through to the pine below. Next time I will try that ageing method with the nails and vinegar. Loved the Benny Hill drive down the lane...😊
My favorite by far is just the black paint with no other color, to me that one has the best "distressed" look about it but all of them are great. Keep up the great content!
Thanks Shawn and yeah that one did turn out great👍 I think they all have their own distinct purposes depending on what you're trying to transform....thanks for watching mate 👍😁🇦🇺
Love the results on that mate with the steel wool you’ve made an ebonising fluid. I have a jar in the workshop I made months ago it reacts with the tannins in the wood so something like oak changes colour before your eyes. Another good thing to try is making chalk paint with a bit of emulation and a good helping of talc it gives a great effect. 👌🏻
G'day Dave 👍 Ebonising fluid???....love the term...I'm using it from now on 😂 I've always wanted to have a crack at making my own chalk paint as well.....you've given me some inspiration mate 👍👍 Thanks for watching 👍😁🇦🇺
Some great tips there Knackers. I'm going to use the white vinegar with wire wool and rusty nails for a shelf my lad wants me to stain. Using the wood stain he bought is not giving the finish we want. Thanks mate.

There I was, up all night trying to teach myself how to make a box using only simple hand tools. Then I come inside and see this video. Distressed. Yeah, that’s what I was going for! The distressed and reclaimed look. And the “I own stock in a wood glue company” look! Excellent video as always, sir!
Just did this to a nightstand I had. Sanded it to bare wood, stained it and then quickly brushed on chalk paint.. Finished it with a coat of polycrylic (since i had it laying around) and as you say she's a rippa !! Added some nice black knobs on it and it is a huge 180 from what it looked like. It was for the girlfriend's makeup crap and i have to setup her vanity after we finished redoing our room. Gotta keep my baby's mom happy.
More ideas for distressing wood? More dad jokes 👍 Seriously Unkle K, great ideas to try. I did paint then sand back on an old cable reel for a back yard table, after a few coats of varnish it looked great. Keep up the good work. 🛠⚒⛏🪓🔨
Another great way to age it fast. If you happen to own cattle lay the wood out where you feed they will wear the edges down and distress it very nicely.
I’ve used charcoal from the wood stove before. I think it works better on hardwood though. They all came out great. I never heard of using vinegar, steel wool and nails before. Gonna have to try that out.
Hey Brian, forgot what the chemical reaction is, but basically it reacts with the tannin in the wood. The higher the tannin content, the more severe the reaction
Nice one Shane my favourite is, as you look at it from the viewers view of the frame, then it's left, right, bottom then top hope you got that? without going back and checking. Stay Safe Mate, Barry (ENG)
Other tools of choice would be files and rasps for adding wear and tear (abrasion) marks-best used on edges and corners. Of the paint treatments, the black by itself was the best.
I am going to try that tip with the vinegar to make a stain - save me going shopping! (Didn’t say that before COVID-19! 😏) Great ideas for the distressed look on the frame - I like them all for different projects! Nice work, Uncle Knackers! Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕

PiDGE IAM use a durable varnish to seal it but don't do thick coats. It may be worth using a clear wax polish over the varnish in my opinion. This can be applied using a cloth or brush and buffed when the polish has dried a bit. You can experiment with stained polishes too.
