    When I have the drone sitting idle when programming or updating, I have a desktop fan blowing from the front to simulate forward motion... works great keeping it cool.

      It hit 128°F last week in Arizona, let me know how it flies in that heat. Also a dry dessert heat is not going to effect it as noticeably as a humid 123°F heat like it's hit in Florida a couple times this summer already.

    It could be, that it was slowly going down because when you pressed the cruise control shortcut, you had a ‘slight’ downward pitch and it just kept doing the same downward pitch… because the pitch was so slight, it was unnoticeable until you did more revolutions… I saw UA-cam video recently about somebody using cruise control with Spotlight, which continued to work during the cruise control… make sense?

    I was flying an Air2S here in Australia on a 45 degree (Celsius = 113F) day. The drone was fine, but I was using the iPhone plugged in to the controller as a monitor, and that was overheating in minutes. The iPhone overheating caused the image to disappear from the screen, so I couldn't see anything and had to manually land. Between the heat and the flies, it was disastrous. That being said, I got some incredible footage of the painted silos I was filming. Footage was perfect.

    I fly in the Tampa Bay Area. With record breaking heat and dew points….like flying inside a dishwasher! No issues when airborne. The venting and cooling design seem to make it fine. However, I have had issues when after a longer flight I land and it overheats while transferring media. I try to take it inside near an ac vent or box fan. I am always surprised at how warm/hot to the touch the body gets at times. I’ve had the pro4 now since last August I think…I fly daily for the most part. If anything on this subject, the batteries don’t charge fully anymore. I have one that only reaches 91% and the other two are like 96% and 97%.

    Keep in mind that, even you are not using the drone camera, it is still being used. Otherwise, you would not be seeing it on your controller. The only variable will be what type of recording you are having it do, which will be using less power than actually having the camera turned on.

    Thanks for a very interesting video. Once got into "critical", the drone didn't accept any controls so I climbed a pile of rubble to grab the drone.
    When landing, standing in a high grass area, hand catching is used this way: Go into Safety, down to Advanced settings and nock out the downward sensors to pick the drone. When the downward sensors are off the Mavic 3 pro descends slowly. Just be aware of it.

    Hi gang. Accurate GPS location only requires 3 satellites for triangulation. However, A 4th satellite is included to correct for timing errors between satellites. Anything over 4 is 'gravy'. And as satellites appear and disappear from 'view' (horizon) as they orbit the earth, having a dozen or so insures dependable coordinates over time.

    The only thing I can think of that would make it so that it kept descending while you were in cruise control was that when you press the cruise control on button you had accidentally pulled the down stick down a little in which case it would remember that as well Either that or your up and down stick is not centring properly

    Good stuff, but I have to disagree a little with the heat issue. There were 5 cities last week, 2 in Florida and 3 in Arizona that hit over 120°F(48.8°C), outside Phoenix it hit 128°F(53.3°). I'm not saying your drone won't operate or that you shouldn't do it in those temps, but I'd definitely pay attention to core temp readings and keep a closer eye on motor temps during and between flights, and try to have something to mechanically cool the drone also between flights.

    Although heat doesn't appreciably affect the drone, I had to give up flying my Mini 2 on hot days as the screen on my iPhone would heat up too fast and black out. I went to Thailand, took 2 days and over $100 to get proper authority to fly, only to have my screen constantly go too dark to see anything. My Mini 3 Pro, using the controller with built-in screen, doesn't have this problem.

    I just got an Air 3 with the fly more combo..
    The drone and RC2 consume tons of power just being turned on... So i think that recording is only a fraction of the power consumption.
    These days there's a dedicated chip for recording which consumes very few watts.
    The RC2 has 22 Wh battery and consumes it just being turned on in 3 hours. The drone also consumes all power on few hours by just sitting on the table with power on.
    That makes them as power hungry as a laptop that plays UA-cam (WiFi) at full brightness (10-15 watt)

    Took my drone out at 100% power... proceeded away from me on N mode till it hit 60%, then decided to return straight back - same altitude, same full forward speed...but in Sport mode. Didn't make it. There was very little headwind so this wasn't the issue... noone told me Sport mode uses way more power than N or C modes.... learned the hard way! Thankfully, got to it before anyone else or their stick-fetching dog did!

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff Місяць тому

      There's something wrong with the drone or battery then, there is no way 40% of your battery should be able to get you far enough away to not be able to make it back on the remaining 60%, I don't care what mode you're in, especially if you came back the same way, in a straight line. Did you try the same test with different batteries? I've done that same test, but turning around when I hit 70%, when I return home in the same mode, N or C, I have right at 40% left, when I return in sport mode, I had barely less, maybe 38%, 37% at the lowest. Yes your drone will use a more battery, but if all things, environment wise, are the same or similar, the time you make up flying faster should more than compensate for that extra battery usage.

    • @rangerrick8220
      @rangerrick8220 Місяць тому

      @@sunshynff Tried again today - Sport mode at full throttle bleeds the power away... maybe its just my unit?

    • @sunshynff
      @sunshynff Місяць тому

      @@rangerrick8220 .... Oh, you fly back full throttle, I might have missed that if you mentioned it in your original comment, that's the problem right there. Photo drone batteries aren't designed for full stick deflection for any amount of sustained time. I mean it's fine in the N or C mode, because the throttle percent is limited. I mean FPV batteries don't even like it that much, but they can handle it better in short burst, depending on their "C" rating, not to be confused with the "c"harge rating.
      The higher the "C" rating on a lipo battery, the better it can handle full throttle maneuvers without experiencing voltage sag, which is when the battery is under a heavy load, or call for high voltage output, it can experience a brief, but severe dip, or sag, in voltage, which can really hinder the performance in a racing or freestyle FPV drone. A typical FPV lipo is anywhere between 90C-120C, to where a typical photo drone lipo is usually between 35C-70C. So basically if you're flying back, and you have full deflection on the throttle for more than 30sec to a minute, you are putting a tremendous strain on that battery, not only does it sag, it probably then stays there causing the battery to essentially burn all it's voltage extremely quickly.
      Here's what I would do, next time you're out, do the same test again, once exactly like you just did, and a second time with throttle stick between 50% and 75%, and maybe just a few short burst of full throttle. But also, when your flying back, pull up your battery telemetry screen on your controller, the one that has 3 green bars showing the voltage in all 3 cells of the battery, and keep an eye on that each time when you're flying back, and I'm betting you'll see a visualization of what I prattled on and on about above...lol.
      I would also note, that one of the advantages to flying FPV drones is that I had to learn to PID tune them and set my own rates, I have a Mavic 1 original, and a Mavic 2 Advanced Thermal, and I've set them both up through NolimitzDrones, where u can install any firmware you want, boost range, speed, turn off annoying warnings, but best of all you can PID tune and set rates as you please, so I have mine PID tuned similar to a a racing drone for when I switch to S mode, which allows for more efficient flying, and conservation of battery voltage. Something to look into if you're interested. Take care, happy flying!

    • @rangerrick8220
      @rangerrick8220 Місяць тому

      @@sunshynff Yeah it was full throttle... I will try again but at 1/2 throttle... see how that works. I only use sport mode when it is absolutely necessary.... was flying on the weekend and heard some yahoos on a neighbouring property shooting... wasn't sure if they were taking shots at my drone or not... it was up at 120 m... so unlikely they would hit it... but another good example of when to use sport mode...

    Great video and as always an excellent easy to follow and understand turorial. Maybe this topic has been covered. But if not, in respect to the Mini 4 Pro is there a suggested method to ensure you have full batteries when going out to have some fun? I find that I charge all 3 regular batteries and place them in the carry bag. After a few days the batteries will discharge to as low as 60%. Suggestions?

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Місяць тому +1

      It’s always recommended to charge them the day before you plan to fly out

    • @riskybusiness5
      @riskybusiness5 Місяць тому

      They discharge to remain at optimal storage levels. After depleting them, if I am not planning on flying, I charge them to back to around 70% for storage. When I am planning to fly I can top off two sets of drone batteries in a few hours. I may charge them the night before and maybe even top them off just before I leave home.

    Hi, Im coming from a DJI mini 3 to a DJI Mini 4
    * I often use 360 photography and DJI does it amazing.. Looks beautiful in Virtual Reality.
    HOWEVER, DJI 4 now adds the big files/shots in a folder on SD. Is it possible to turn this off? I don't see myself ever using those and they are huge.
    * The new DJI RC controller: Coming from the Phone/Controller combo one, after completing the Master Shots routine, I used to hear the cheesy Auto edit demo. I hear other things on the controller but not voice prompts or that. IS that a setting?
    Is there a way to disable the stupid Instruction Video every time you select Master Shots? It's annoying / not helpful.
    * I set the Video record Coding format to H.256 and can't figure how to change it back to .254

    Does remote ID give YOUR LOCATION.......?
    (location of controller....not just drone?) I just ask because within 2 weeks of getting my drone.....I had a drone show up to my house and hover (100') right above where I always take off and stare at me for 30 seconds. Is that just a complete coincidence?.....or is MY location getting shared somehow? I have a DJI mini pro 4......and it looked and sounded exactly the same.

    I bought the Mini 4 pro today, but I am confused why it show I can use the controller from my Lost Mavic 2 controller with this model. Even the tutorial shows but does not explain Why!!! I lost my Mavic 2 July 23rd 2024, it was running low on power and I hit the return home button. It landed in someones back yard with no more power. Isn't Mavic able to tell me where it landed. I do not feel safe having spent and additional $1100.00s flying it anywhere other than a golf course, Please Help, Thanks.

    I was kind of thinking that the signal strength would go down like a smart phone, but instead it’s a full five bars, then two orange bars and finally one red bar. Is my drone acting strange or do all Mini 4 Pro’s do this?

    • @riskybusiness5
      @riskybusiness5 Місяць тому

      Sounds normal. Drone's don't use cellular networks they use radio bands that can fluctuate with any obstacles (trees) or even antenna direction. The drone will dynamically adjust frequency bands to obtain better signal, which can result jumps in signal strength while flying at any distance.

    • @Diantane
      @Diantane Місяць тому

      @@riskybusiness5 have you seen the video on the Cellular Dongle 2? With that on your Mini 4 Pro or Air 3, their signal comes from 4g cellular for an unlimited range. The battery is the only determining factor.

    Russ, great tips as always. I’m about to buy the mp4 and just want to verify with you:
    If I buy the regular batteries I don’t need to concern myself with remote ID, but if I mix in the larger plus battery with them , the drone must be registered with the built in remote ID signal. Is this correct . And…. What is your opinion on just sticking with the regular intelligent batteries ( only ), considering privacy and future possible bans?
    Thanks

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  Місяць тому

      You would regret not having the longer battery life. I highly recommend getting the batteries plus and registering the drone. Remote ideas nothing to worry about. And even if a ban does happen to occur, any currentdrones will not be included..

    At 1:11 he said number of satellites doesn’t matter. I disagree with this, as I’ve seen my drone lose the ability to hover in place with a low number of satellites. This would explain a number of post when people have their drone fly off.

      Good point, the temperature warning can occur if idle on ground or in air, but probably not a problem when moving with air flow to drone/battery.

    Wrong, I was flying in 96 deg weather, no wind, not full speed, going up the side of a mountain. All of a sudden I get a screen message that said "Gimble Overheat". It did not let me return home. It immediately landed, I had no control and it completely shut down after landing. As stated I was flying up a mountain side. Had no way to retrieve it. First drone I have lost. DJI replaced it.
    A big complaint I have with DJI navigation is; when the drone decides to land itself and I go to 'Find My Drone' it will give me the last transmission in Longitude and Latitude but there is no way to enter that info in as a 'Way Point'. If I could have located, maybe I could use one of my larger drones with a hook and retrieve it.

    I have a question. In your video on the top of the screen next to the battery level indicator you said that’s how much time you have left to fly your drone, how can that be when the numbers are labeled in feet and inches I don’t understand can somebody clarify please.

    • @Kiwi0Six
      @Kiwi0Six Місяць тому

      Good question. While more common use for the single and double quotes is feet and inches, it is also used indicate minutes and seconds (commonly in angle measurement - degrees minutes and seconds - rather than in time). I would guess they’re using this nomenclature instead of the colon so there’s no confusion about hours and minutes or minutes and seconds.

      Like a lot of DJI specs, ppl usually find drones to out perform specs. Others have stated to flown up to 110-115 degrees. I have flown Avata at 105 several times and the drone will become very hot so removing battery upon landing is advised and getting multiple flights may be challenging, but it should be possible. I have also flown from inside car with AC, so you can cool things down between flights.
