I am 60 years old I have been taking piano lessons from an accomplished musician for the pass 3 years. Have not made much progress but watching a couple of your videos got me excited. Now I will stick with you and learn. God bless you richly
I'm a guitar player. I recently bought a DAW. Can't have a DAW without a keyboard so I bought a keyboard. Can't strum a keyboard so I tinkered around a bit. Sort of doing okay. Then I saw this video. Pretty cool. Played the 1st four patterns instantly. The 5th took a little to get the muscle memory happening. Lol....I subscribed.
The fact you told people to practice a 4 note section to get comfortable tells me you’re a fantastic teacher. These “piano apps” had my daughter doing triad scales in the beginning. I’m like can we focus on like a c major scale first and get her comfortable with that. So bravo sir, I will definitely subscribe and have her watch your videos.
My piano skills have progressed tremendously since I found Creative Piano Academy. Thank you so much for providing such great content and free accompanying sheet music etc. I appreciate you.
I absolutely loved this, I love inversions and this is the validation I needed to play them as much as I want to 😅 I’m self taught and not very accomplished but I still love to play. Thank you SO much for your simple and USEFUL video 👏 Your excitement was a wonderful bonus 😊
It is incorrect for people to say that they are self-taught or that they are teaching themselves. Is more appropriate to say that by experimenting you are finding out certain things about how this music works. Keep investigating and eventually you will learn certain aspects of how music is done. Keep practices and you will get better at those things. But you can only teach yourself if you already know in which case you're not teaching yourself.
This is my first set of exercises with Creative Piano Academy, which I now consider a go-to resource for my keyboard studies and one which I plan on engaging with as a proper customer. Thanks very much for your good work and all that you put into it. Much appreciated!
I’ve been trying to learn piano myself for ages, I have some music knowledge but cannot read music. This video just moved my progression by miles and the fun too.
Hi Josef, Thank you so much for sharing these amazing, empowering and beautiful patterns. Of all the things I have seen on UA-cam piano tutorials, this video is the one that I feel is most useful for a person like me trying to learn how to play the piano. It is so empowering and it made me feel I could actually sound good playing the piano. You are a great teacher and you made beginners feel they can actually advance in their desire to play better. Thank you again. You are truly a blessing.
So simple, thanks very much. This truly can help me as a beginner sound like I know what I'm doing, at least for a brief moment, when I sit down at the piano with my wife in the room! NOTHING IS MORE ELEGANT THAN SIMPLICITY!
Thank you, you are a great teacher, you make it slow and easy to follow, I'm 71 and need to learn, also like note in top corner, Its by far the best tutorial I can find, Have subscribed
Wonderful lesson. Just found you!!! Really appreciate the pace and breakdown and also the technique reminders that you throw in, like relaxing from the shoulder down and lifting the wrist. I will be following you and looking forward to learning from you. Thank you so so much.
I loved the video and I saved it. For my Roland tips and tricks playlist. Although I was practicing the note progressions on my cigar box guitar and I sucked at it. But I can't wait to sequence my Roland J-6 with this and then play along the note patterns on my CBG... thank you for the inspiration..

I had piano lessons as a youngster - then my dad taught me some chords on a guitar (his old, old, old one!) then I was given a ukulele for my 9th birthday. Studied music in the library and then started buying penny whistles and harmonicas. Then had home-organ lessons. Started backing artistes at around 18/19 and then got into portable keyboards - played in a few bands, churches and have now risen to buying a Genos 2 - and you know what? I am still learning. Turned 60 this year and now realize that I need way more time than nature has to offer!! Enjoyed "going back to basics" and subscribed. Thank you CPA!
I recently bought a keyboard as a gift for a friend that wanted to learn to play. I wanted to find some easy lessons to get her started and I believe this is the right place. Thank you.
Thanx, i learned many basic/advance techniques from you and it helps me lot , now I can play with confidently and ofcourse like advance player. Thanx😊😊
Please do a video specifically targeting finger pattern exercises, to improve coordination and fluidity. I do the Hannon exercises, but would like your take on other ones. I'm very much into improv. Thanks. Great lesson. I
Great vid! I’m self taught, been playing for years, have played professionally, and I guess just intuitively started using these patterns. When I first started playing, I wrote something using Pattern # 1. But what was interesting about your approach on #1 was going to the inversion for the next chord, bc it requires changing the finger separation distance. Pretty cool, and makes it sound less elementary. The pattern on which you keep the bass on the first chord throughout with creates a bit of tension is used quite often by Elton (e.g., the intro to “Your Song”). The genealogy of the “Lohn Jennon” could be go back to the “Maul PcCartney,” since Maul used it on “Golden Slumbers,” and likely taught “Jennon” how to play.
@@scottm4042 First. Second would be Lehn Jonnen & Mcul PaCartney. Now don’t even get me started on minors, 7th’s, diminished, augmented, and especially 6 add 9’s! Eventually you run out of letters and have to start borrowing from George & Ringo . . .

Great approach. Playing piano, as with most things, takes a lot of repetition of exercises that don't sound particularly pleasing. Your approach allows the beginner to play something pleasing to the ear and reinforcing to those laboring through the (required) basic exercises. Thank you
