Tywin liked to send bards to play this song whenever a sworn house of his tried to act uppity. You can bet your ass they cooperated afterwards.

I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but i kinda thought Joffrey's death was sad in a way. Don't get me wrong, he was a monster, but he was an entertaining monster. You love to hate this character as do I. I kinda liked watching him do evil things and talk about how evil and fucked up he is. But not only is it sad because it's Joffrey's death, he was the first of the main lannister characters to die. I feel like his death was the beginning of the fall of the Lannisters. As if his death were a bad omen to the family. This sad version of the Rains of Castemere completes it perfectly. It kinda shows irony. The song that represents how powerful and brutal the Lannisters can be, is also the one to represent how vulnerable they are, even with all the power they have.

Yup, he's fantastic. Its a shame he can't go out in public without tons of people thinking he is an asshole in real life. That just SHOWS how great of an actor he is. He is hated ON and OFF screen. There have only been minor changes that seemed voluntary script changes or ones that were necessary to make a transition to a different media, like set changes. Most of the changes have been to character appearance, if I remember correctly. Also, Daario Naharis dyed his hair and beard blue in the books. Such a great melody. It bites Tywin back in the ass due to Joffrey's mistakes. The song talks about defiance to a greater power. And this time it was Joffrey who at the end couldn't get away with everything he had wanted.
B Damien I mean Tywin because this song was dedicated to him and his victory over the Lord of Castemere who was a vassal of the Lannisters back when Tytos (father of Tywin) was in charge. Tytos was a horrible leader of the Lannisters and so their vassals didn't take him seriously. Tywin was so badass he confronted the Lord of Castemere (who rebelled to the Lannisters) and defeated him in such a way they made a song about it and it became the "Lannister song" to show that they mean business and they are not joke with. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but i kinda thought Joffrey's death was sad in a way. Don't get me wrong, he was a monster, but he was an entertaining monster. You love to hate this character as do I. I kinda liked watching him do evil things and talk about how evil and fucked up he is.
But not only is it sad because it's Joffrey's death, he was the first of the main lannister characters to die. I feel like his death was the beginning of the fall of the Lannisters. As if his death were a bad omen to the family. This sad version of the Rains of Castemere completes it perfectly. It kinda shows irony. The song that represents how powerful and brutal the Lannisters can be, is also the one to represent how vulnerable they are, even with all the power they have.

Yup, he's fantastic. Its a shame he can't go out in public without tons of people thinking he is an asshole in real life. That just SHOWS how great of an actor he is. He is hated ON and OFF screen. It's really a shame that GoT ended his acting career (by choice actually), because he feels he will either never be liked because of his role of Joffrey, or he will be typecast as "that guy thats really good at being a prick." Again, such a shame that he was SO good at what he did, he feels it will hinder any further acting career he wants to pursue
I think the creepiest part of this version is is that the instrument they use has the ability to simultaneously sound like a crackling fire and hundreds of people screaming at the same time

I think the hissing sound also represents the idea of gasping for air because it sounds a bit like wheezing, which works well since Joffrey was gasping for air in his last moments after being poisoned.
I'd also like to add that a lot of the forefront choir (especially at the beginning) is going "Ooooohhh"... basically just like a wolf howling. Avenging for the Red Wedding.
I am amazed by the versatility of this song - it's sounded raucous (before the Battle of Blackwater) ominous (Red Wedding), triumphant (Jamie rescuing Brienne from the bear), and now mournful (Purple Wedding).

There have only been minor changes that seemed voluntary script changes or ones that were necessary to make a transition to a different media, like set changes. Most of the changes have been to character appearance, if I remember correctly. For example, Daenerys should have purple eyes, as all Targaryens do, but the creators of the show didn't think that using colored contacts would look good. Also, Daario Naharis dyed his hair and beard blue in the books. A lot of other characters across the Narrow Sea had more extravagant hair and costumes in the books than on TV, again I am sure they changed it for the same reason they changed Daenerys' eyes.
I can imagine some other changes coming in the future, mostly to do with the pacing of what order character story lines appear.

I think in that episode, Arya kills a different person than in the books. In the books, I think it is the tickler. Also, there are fewer other people around for Sandor to kill.

B Damien I mean Tywin because this song was dedicated to him and his victory over the Lord of Castemere who was a vassal of the Lannisters back when Tytos (father of Tywin) was in charge. Tytos was a horrible leader of the Lannisters and so their vassals didn't take him seriously. Tywin was so badass he confronted the Lord of Castemere (who rebelled to the Lannisters) and defeated him in such a way they made a song about it and it became the "Lannister song" to show that they mean business and they are not joke with.
Then is why the song was played at the red wedding.
Now this time it is ironic since there was some sort of retribution to the Lannisters after what they did.

So, am I the only one who was sad when Joffrey died? I was very annoyed - he was evil, yes; but also *so* much fun to watch - one of those characters that you want to see onscreen, but you want them far away from the characters that you care about...
Would've been much better if Cercei had died - she was always just a manipulative pest - not much fun to watch.

The only reason you think he's fun to watch is cause he's a guy. I'm a girl and I love Cersei for being manipulative and conniving. Not often you get female villains. Not all girls are "sweet and sugary and nice". Some are just as bad as men like Petyr Baelish.
Well, things are coming Cersei's way. Not sad Joffrey died but I do see why it's the diffrence of the characters and the way they act don't sp boil it down to feminist bullshit. For example the portrayal of Ramsey Snow is quite entertaining to see. Cersei is not, she's a decent actor but she has like 1 note in the series which is a manipulative Mwahahaha.

Just so you know, it's the final exams period in my country, maybe in others too. So I've already watched it but I guess many students haven't, and being late of TWO WEEKS is not a reason to be spoiled about the entire episode.

TJ A man knows what's right and what's wrong , he knows what's wrong and he's doing it on purpose , what you're saying is true , but t'is an influence in the end , and not a 100% determining thing . Tyrion for example was raised in a bad environment , yet he is a good man.
TJ I think it influenced him a small amount, but Joffrey's madness was his own. Tommen's normal enough, but Joffrey was the victim of his mother and father's lust. Sometimes things go wrong with the children of incest, and Joffrey is a painful example.
