Michael Irvin epitomized the personality of the Cowboys of the '90's. The flamboyancy and the heart and soul on how he played the game that he left on the field! He gave it his all every time he played the game. Today's cowboys need more players like him. Only Dez Bryant came close to to being the next playmaker!
All I heard this season is Dallas doesn't have anyone to stretch the field. Irvin was slower than at least half of the CB's he played against, yet he could go deep and get separation. Dallas doesn't throw deep because Prescott isn't very accurate on the deep ball. He seldom throws a ball more than 20 yds. Gallup is showing that he can run good routes too. He just needed time to grow and he did, very quickly. Getting Cooper doesn't matter if you're never throwing deep and defenses know this. They know Dallas is rarely going to go downfield, which gives them the luxury of playing closer to the LOS. You don't have to be the fastest guy to make big plays and make deep catches. If you know the playbook, run your routes correctly and can go after the ball in traffic, you'll be successful. Good hands helps too.
Irvin didn't need to run faster. He only needed to catch the ball, and that he did. Jerry Rice was probably on par, not the fastest receiver, but got to the ball and caught it more often than not.

Both of these guys arent particularly fast but its all about making the impossible acrobatic catches with them. Irvin was taller and a lot stronger though. You saw how he punked darrell green. He really intimidated the DBs.
My all-time favorite WR!!
The big 8...8 ! I just want one of them jerseys!
