Plastic drums don't necessarily have a long life as a rule. Subject to heat and time, the plastic material will become brittle and break apart as all plastics do until time and heat, At which time, stepping on the plastic might crack & being brittle would discover a hole and leak. If they fiberglass the underbottem, it might last longer but even take can break given time, heat and enough force of hitting something hard like rocks.

In the United States those blue barrels cost a little over $100 each. It may be easier and more cost effective to buy a used pontoon.
