- I took the Ents' marching song from the book and edited it into the scene from the film. Enjoy!
Song performed by Clamavi De Profundis, with my own mixing to make it sound more like the Ents themselves are singing. Find the original here: • The Ents' Marching Son...
Scene from JRR Tolkien's The Two Towers and Peter Jackson's film of the same name.

I am the Lorax,
I speak for the trees,
Cut us down again,
And the Ents will break ya kness "
Everyone’s gangsta till the trees speak entish

The ents didn’t know most of Saruman’s army was gone, they didn’t care either. They went to Isengard with one goal, to cause as much damage as they possibly could before they all died. They went there fully expecting to die to the last.
I mean, I think they do. At leasy treebeard does. He literally says that the trees have business with the orcs
It's been a while since I read the books, but I think it happened this way: The ents meet at the Ent moot, and it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that they are going to attack Isengard. Treebeard's quote about it being the last march of the ents may have been true; they were going to march on Isengard with or without the army there. But when the army left, they took advantage of the situation. The way they did it in the movie makes no sense, because it's a giant forest, and they decide to sit on their butts doing nothing, and then Treebeard yells and suddenly they have an army ready and they have a fully-formed plan (ents attack Isengard, redirect the river, and huorns follow the Uruk hai). In the book they had been planning for a while, and the army leaving was just a fortunate coincidence.
It's a bit weird in the movies since from the edge of Fangorn forest, Treebeard and the others can clearly see that Saruman's army isn't there anymore
@@brendangolledge8312 ye the book as far as i recall from trivia and the fragments from when it was read to me as young , i think the moot not decided agenst it outright and since the movie also cut out one of the semi big characters at the forest encounters ''like a forest keeper druid or such'' its event chain is a bit more 'hamfisted' but i think it is true to the books that the moot was very reluctant not knowing its own strength or how dire the situation truely was thus not decided yet so the hobbits 'speeded up' their decision with some sort of clever stuff sort of like the movie scene ,just not so ''instant events'' yet it think otherwise its a decent 'representation' of events
though as for the river and forest part , thats lees planning i think in both the books and movie and more ''fk it this is to much! all ent giants! gather here we charge isengard in x time before it grows stronger and once there we wreck all we can spot , so ..spots mine shafts ,toss boulders in it! sees dam break it! ..and tree's awaken all of you that remains down the slopes of the mountain and move in that direction to the other mountain turn all orcs all urukhai in your path into fertilizer to grow the forest deeper!''
To die for those they love was no greater Honor.
You know you messed up bad when the trees start waging war. The orcs got a taste of Yavanna's wrath.
True
Free fertilizer for the trees.
Tolkien said that the idea for the Ents came to him in childhood when reading Shakespeare. He was mad the witches prophesy about the wood coming to Dunsinane didn't happen LITERALLY. He wanted the forest to ACTUALLY come to life and assault the castle. Looking at this, you can see the wish fulfillment.
Same. My mom read Macbeth to me when I was a kid, and much as I appreciate Shakespeare, I've never quite forgiven him for how he failed me with the forest marching. I've always loved Tolkien for fulfilling my desire for trees making war.
There is something truly delightful and wonderful in that thought.
The man was built differently. Who reads Macbeth in childhood hahaha
What makes this song so incredibly powerful, is the notion that the Orcs have awoken the wrath of the Trees themselves. Nature itself has gone to war, and whoever angers them is a dead man walking.
In this scene Tree Beard isn't calm. Not by a long shot. He's earth shatteringly furious, his friends were killed by the wizard they had trusted to know better. And for that, the Trees will bring their wrath down upon the walls of Isengard.
The fact that the only thing who made Saruman live for the end of his days was the fact they couldn't dismantle that tower because Numeran's materials is... terrifying
Yeah he became positively hasty.
The part that breaks me is that Treebeard, while heartbroken, doesn't even consider anger until realizing it was Sarumon... A being that had lived among them for ages. If it had been men, even orcs, it may have been simply a tragedy. But because it was Sarumon who live in harmony with them for so long, it was betrayal. "A Wizard should know better!"
I loved how in the movie the ents just stand there and “root in” when the flood comes
That one ent, that's on fire running into the flood.
Was always happy he survived
@@Lexzah Same
@@Lexzahme too
@@Lexzah, and me too
@@Lexzah his name is beechbones, he's one of the youngest ents if i remember right; in the book he ends up dying from his wounds which sends the ents into a much greater fury
When you come back from cutting a load of firewood and you hear this behind you.
By the time you hear this you know….it’s far too late
@@Allantitan actually they seem pretty slow, I can most likely run and get my tracks lost
0:45 imagine being in Isengard and hearing that cry. That was the cry of pain and anger, an awaking bellow of the forest itself. A call to war from the forest, resounding across the land. Striking fear into the hearts of the orcs and stirring the dormant ents to battle.
It would be to hear the first strike of lightning from a mighty storm, for no force wielded by men, orcs, dwarfs, or elves could stand before the might of the wrathful wood.
Holy yap
Now imagine what the First March of the Ents was like. When they herded all the world's forests to the seige of Angsbad to tear at the mountain walls protecting Morgoth's dark lands.
@@themammoth67 🤓
@@Brotherbear-er7rn wood, you say?😉
The ents, slow to anger but their wrath is final.
The one dislike is from Saruman.
The second one is Wormtongue using a sock account
And the fourth one is from an ugly goblin
These Ents expected to meet extinction at Isengard and so long as they could take their enemy down with them it didnt matter-but instead, they laid siege to the fortress. The sentinals of the forest made their rage known to all that would put axe and torch to tree-leaving none alive in their wake except for an old cowering wizard in his crumbling tower. A wizard who had thought them too slow and gentle to react to the destruction hed brought across the lands. Oh how he was wrong.
Luckily for the ents the wizard sent his entire army away
@@DonKrieg-382 The thing is they counted with the army to be there, that's why almost everyone got straight to fight and only one gone to unleash the river. While the army would be busy with that much Ents (who, mind you, are stronger than any troll or graug could ever be), the river would come as certain death to them with this flood. The Ents sung the Last March of Ents because they expected for a army be there and be their doom, but their purpose was to garantee mutual destruction
Saruman: I have made a severe, and continued lapse of judgement...
No curse in elvish, entish or the tongues of man... Does that mean the dwarves have one severe enough for this?
yeah but the Ents don't have enough time to get through all the verses
Brilliant observation, and hilarious
@@theironqueen2386for the ents, that's saying something
@@Stormageddon571 definitely also I was thinking of that painting of the cossack's insult to the Ottomans when the dwarves where writing their insult sonata
Yes it's "You're going into the Book of Grudge! Twice!"
I like how Treebeard talks about their own doom, but I do not think even a single Ent gets killed XD
He had no idea that almost all of Saruman’s army was attacking Helm’s Deep. Had that army been there in its entirety, it’s likely every single Ent would have been hacked to pieces or burned to ash (only after inflicting grievous losses to Saruman’s army as well, mind you).
In the book some them are killed. Saruman's got all kinds of strange machines and devices that squirt liquid fire and such.
@@josephdoria5237
Maybe. The Ents and Huons went to Helm's Deep as well and killed a _lot_ of Orcs. There's a scene after the battle where there's nothing in the evening and a forest in the morning, with no Orcs to be found, implied because the trees ate them.
@@Aethgeir That's left unclear, as I recall. The scene is only described afterwards to the others by Merry and Pippin. We don't get a full narrative chapter of the battle like we do of the other battles in the books. (I haven't read it in awhile, though.)
I like the slower pace you put to this song; it represents the true terror the power the Ents wield. Slow, deep, terrible, and inevitable. It’s a tidal wave of malice and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. Well done my friend, well done!
Just seeing a bunch of trees approaching you no matter at what speed would send terror through anyone
@@Allantitan exactly just looking behind you and see moving trees marching to you would literally be terrifying to see and watch
@@Embersofthedark the only time it’s not is if you’re leading them to the enemy
in the books Tolkien described them as "striking and moving as swift as lightning" out of pure anger, lmao imagine carving your initials on an oak tree and it pimp slaps you
@@blazingsummit That is even more terrifying. An march of trees to trample you as a inevitable wall is enough to instil terror, but they running, like an stampede? Gods have mercy upon them, cause the Ents won't
🎶The Ents go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah...🎶
There is an Arabic proverb which I think fits the Ents.
"Beware the patient should his wrath be incurred"
That's a wise saying. The patient man is patient not because he doesn't feel anger and rage but because he pushes it down to give his offender another chance. If you push him too much, all those repressed feelings rush out at once.
That one tree who dives head first into the water makes me laugh every single time 😂
I'm so glad someone finally did this!
A sad thought has crossed my mind today......what is gonna happen in 20-30years when they inevitably remake the Lord of the Rings films???? If they don't do it sooner. The way Hollywood is doing remakes of everything nowadays, it will be a sad day indeed.
I mean.... I'm not totally opposed to the idea as long as they get a competent director with vision (God, please let it be Peter Jackson again) and give him the time he needs to actually do it right. I'm sure a lot of hardcore book fanatics would love a book accurate version.
@@shockwave6213 I can definitely agree with you and would also love for a trilogy that did a grand service to the books being as accurate as possible. Would also very much love to see the Hobbit done book accurate too and also with more competence than that Hobbit trilogy that was put out. The Hobbit trilogy was ok for what it was, but it could have been so much better.
Unlikely given that they would need permission from Tolkien's living kin, and based on myth and rumor I've heard they were reluctant to give said permission the first time around, let alone the second time to make the Hobbit films, so a third time seems a like ti would be a hard no.

Unfortunately the Tolkien estate has already given Amazon permission to make a Prime adaptation for their streaming service. Jeff Bezos has said on record that He wants to make a direct competitor to Game of Thrones, so you know what that means; lots of sex, gratuitous violence, essentially sweeping the themes Tolkien wrote on in favor of vulgar spectacle.
LotR fans should have gatekept their franchise better; now it's going to be yet another artless Hollywood trash fire.
@@chesterstevens8870...Okay? If ye don't think ye'd like it than don't watch it. Also unsure why you think fans have any actual say in what is made for a franchise, given that by definition they don't own it, elseways they wouldn't be called 'fans' of it.
Damn imagine being so evil you anger the trees themselves
I never truly understood this scene until today, thank you
"The filth of Saruman is washing away..."
For all gods sakes, this is absolutely fantastic, gave me goosebumps. The movie should've been like this.
DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE!
I am not sorry.
For ROCK AND STONE!!
ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE!!!
Also, Dwarfs and Ents are the best characters in medieval fantasy
ROCK AND STONE FOREVER
For ROCK AND AND STONE
Oh hey my own comment
ROCK AND STONE!
If I could make one change about the movies, it would be the March of the Ents. Do it almost exactly like the book, just some double-time and a little shaping and cutting here and there for dramatic effect, and of course they sing this song as they march in.
well this, and have Robin Williams as Tom Bombadil.
I swear to this day that was a terrible missed opportunity on P. Jackson's part :P
@@gamingchinchilla7323 I tend to disagree. I love Bombadil. He's my favorite side-quest in the books, & he adds to the "leaving the Shire" symbolism. But he's still a side-quest, and movies don't have time for that. They have to be unified.
2years ago this was published, when I heard the song at first I knew fitting the song to these scenes would be epic. And you have proven me right!
Treebeard: Screams on seeing the cut down trees
The Subtitles: [Laughter]
How did Saruman, THE WIZARD, didn't foresee this scenario?
One word...Hubris
too much pipe weed
Saruman Bezos: "You WILL watch Rings of Power, you WILL consoom my product like the good cattle you are!"
The Fans: "We come, we come, with roll of drum..."
1:25 DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE?
Yep
Bro this is fucking amazing
It’s so much more epic seeing them coming from the tree line right before the song starts
god this part always gets me ...they nailed it
I must say, this song makes my heart break. The Wheel of Time’s final book describes Ogier battle songs, and I think of this. Sadly I’ll never hear those songs because the show doesn’t have the heart to show them.
When the forests of Earth are fed up with our fracking shit.
I have listen to this song for years and I just came across just now and you just made my day such a great edit of song and movie.
I wonder when saruman heard that roar along with the orcs in his domain during those final hours in his domain what was he feeling aswell as the orcs?
Did they feel fear?
If they did it wasn’t for long
Fear is the only animating force in the anti-natural nature of the Orcs. Orcs cannot be said to truly "feel" anything at all, they are not sentient beings but a mockery of true creation.
For Saruman, the first thing was probably confusion he never thought the ents capable of wrath, let alone like this. When rushes outside and sees the ents at war with his realm, that confusion turns to panic real quick.
Sauruman was truly a fool to think he could have ever opposed the world of Arda.
I am so glad you did this!
There’s a card in Magic The Gathering called “Last March of the Ents” and the flavor text is one of the lyrics to this song, and I’m only just realizing how freaking cool it actually is

The ents had a sad fate. They lost the ent wives. (There is a heavy suspicion that Morgoth took them.) and they died as a species.
