I've had so many trucks in the past 30+ years of driving (Ram 1500, F150, S10, Ranger . . but my TRD is a true work horse, hauling and towing anything and everything. I will hate the day I will HAVE to sell it.
Did you even look over or test drive the Tacoma before you brought it ! I mean you spent over $40K and did not check it out on the road? Did you even sit in it at the dealers and notice the steering wheel knee issue. Come on, you did check the back seat room with the drivers seat in your position. No way should anyone feel sorry for you.
He said he didn't put stupid things in the video like gas mileage, but he did put important things in like his favorite sippy cup wouldn't fit in the cup holder.
It’ll get better…use your adaptive cruise as often as possible. I never tuned mine- and I bought it new…(2019 TRD Off Road, Double Cab) after 250k trouble free miles I’m definitely used to it. We own a lot of vehicles…full sized trucks/SUVs (Yukon XL Denali, Chevy 1/2 ton and mid sized SUVs also). We own a horse farm and this truck goes almost anywhere our (Kawasaki) Mule 6 seater goes. I actually am pleased with the storage - the under back seats is terrific- I use compression bags and keep a lot of gear in them. I have ordered a Diamondback Switchback cover…I’ll put it on the new (23) Pro when it comes in. As for the interior- I am thrilled how it’s held up after 250k miles. The truck is not for backseat passengers…that’s why I wouldn’t recommend it for a family vehicle. I love how the back seats fold down- perfect for dogs. I usually sell our full sized vehicles (all GMC) around 60-70k miles as experience has taught me the 125-150k mile mark brings issues. We’ve had a few sedans too and off the lot BMW is our favorite…but, The BMWs (7 series) usually have issues much earlier. Bottom line for me is the Tacoma- while by far the least expensive of the vehicles we buy it is by far the best value. I tell folks it’s like horses…don’t buy a walker/trotter and expect it to compete with the roping horse when roping, know what you need. The Tacoma is a master of very little but does most things well and it is dependable and that to me is a winner.
I went from having a older model Tacoma to a 2023. I did not notice any of that. It was a breath of fresh air to be in a brand new truck again. My old Tacoma had over 300k on it (still have it) and that’s why it cost so much. My old Tacoma out lived so many of my friends vehicles and way more dependable then any of their trucks. Keep it basic, less things to go wrong. Also the build them in the city I live in. San Antonio.

Great video explaining everything ! I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD off-road & I couldn’t find the right description of what I didn’t like about the transmission issues I’ve been having. I’m at 31k miles & problem hasn’t gone away. Truck consistently is looking for the right gear. Please recommend tunes to fix this issue, thanks. Again great video !
You hit the nail on the head as far as reliability goes, I have a 2010 trd sport with 73,000 miles ,.. got the new frame two years ago … still drives like the day I drove it off the show room floor in December of 2009
Totally disagree about the interior being outdated. I love the interior, functional without the fluff. And now I’ll contradict that statement to some me complaining about the adaptive cruise control, I wish it were better. 🍻
I sold my 1997 Tacoma for a 2021 TRD OR a couple of years ago. I am with you on the driver side handle. I really miss that feature during rough road 4x4. Both sides have air bags on the pillar regardless of the handle. Maybe driver side user mods are easier without the handle? Cost? I guess the TacomaWorld forum might have an answer.
There are air ducts under the front seats that direct heat or cool air to the rear seat passengers. I have 16,500 miles on my TRD Sport. It took about 10,000 miles and by then the truck seemed to adapt to my driving and the gear hunting went away for the most part. It still hunts on the open roads going up hills but I have learned when to slide my gear shift knob to the left which keeps the truck in its one to one ratio 4th gear( 5th and 6th gears are overdrive gears) and the gear hunting goes away but the engine is at a higher rpm of course. I have put Seat Jackers on the front seats which tilt the seats rearward just a little which results in the seat supporting your thigh, making a big difference in comfort. I too am 5-11. I replaced my stock tires with the Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires in the 265/70R17 115T size. These tires are 1 inch taller which gives you better ground clearance and fills the fender wells nicely. This is a 32inch diameter, 10.5 inch wide tire. I live in snow country and they are excellent for snow, better for wet roads, self cleaning of annoying rocks that stick inside the tread and, because of the one inch more sidewall than the stock tires, have a smoother ride. I stayed with the stock wheels because they are unique to the TRD Sport and I think they are a really nice looking wheel. I also have the technology package on my Tacoma which gives you the LED headlights with the cool turn signals, among other cool technology functions.

Seems all these things could be discovered on a test drive if you pay attention. As for price, my 2020 Off Road I got new for $6k under MSRP with a free 10 year extended warranty. I understand things are a bit different now but I have helped friends negotiate under MSRP this year so it can be done. Also, I got the 6MT so the transmission and throttle lag issues aren’t an issue.
I got use to the transmission. After the first 1000 miles it seems like its learned how I drive now. It holds shifts longer and accelerates smoother. They don't break so I could care less how clunky it is. If you take your foot off the gas at 50mph and let it coast to slow itself down you will figure out at what speeds it downshifts to engine brake. Mine smoothed out quite a bit. You really just have to give it a little extra throttle to prevent the upshifting. I just got a 2023 SR5 Double Cab Long bed 4x4. The interior is great imo. It doesn't break and cleans easily since its plastic.
I have a 2022 DCLB and especially between 11000 and 15000 my transmission seemed to adapt and it feels really good pretty much all the time now. I have 19000 now. Very enjoyable now!
Get the Overland Tailor Torque tune. I did and its like I have a different truck. Gear hunting and throttle lag both gone. I have a 23 trd off road and those issues drive me insane. I got the OTT mild to medium tune and couldn't be happier.

Wondering how much these points were improved in the '24 model. The hybrid version probably improves the throttle lag, and has great gas mileage, but... You pay for it upfront as this is probably the most expensive trim. Also, with all the new complications like turbo and hybrid technology, I am not sure this would have the same famous reliability Toyota trucks always had
The gen 3 is already a dumpster fire as far as reliability is concerned so it cant get much worse. I ignored all the reliability issues on tacoma world and it's abysmal CR survey results because all my Toyota's were incredibly reliable. My '19 had more issues in the 3 years I owned it than every other vehicle I've ever owned combined.
I have the same exact configuration as yours. I find the same exact things are annoying, especially the steering wheel/seating arrangement. If they had this same configuration with manual transmission, I would've gotten that, but unfortunately they don't have it with long bed.
I have the 2005 PreRunner DCSB TRD model and love it! Bought it used with 80k miles, and it now has over 172k miles. It does need a new paint job as the clear coat on the Black Sand Pearl paint is fading. I also will be looking at getting new rims eventually.
This is a minor gripe, but my wife and I both use the truck and need different seat positions. I hate having to readjust the seat to find my "perfect" seat position after my wife has used the truck. I would think in 2023 the drivers seat at a minimum would have a memory function.
The number one complaint regarding vehicles seems to be the auto trans. That momentary hesitation (I refer to it as computer thinking time to interact with the other computers), drives me nuts. The manual, you have that tactile engagement, put it in gear, and it responds, instantaneously. That is the main reason that I only like the manual 6 speed transmission. My 2020 Tacoma TRD sport just recently was totalled out in a front end impact. Five air bags deployed. I surely agree with you on the seating position. I am using my 15 year old Nissan Xterra, and the seat support and driving position, imo, far out surpasses the Tacoma. Hopefully the upcoming 2024 model has addressed the issues you bring up. I'm just glad that the 6 speed manual will still be available.

I just sold my 2019 Tacoma TRD sport premium for 2K more then I bought it for new in Jan 2019 and put a deposit down a new 2024 model. I've had 2 Tacomas and never hand any problems with them. I hope the new 4th gen holds up as good as the previous versions.
I ordered my sport premium end of September and received mid November 2023. I have the wireless charging, apple play and leather seats. Now regarding pricing, I was shopping the RAM and then went to the Tacoma dealer and hands down the Tacoma for the same price was way more loaded. I love my tacoma. Love the interior, leather seats, moon roof, power sliding rear window, tie downs in the bed, composite bed, also love that I can monitor my truck from anywhere in the world. Right now I’m in Indonesia and I can see what the status of my truck is.
I just ordered my 2023 TRD Sport in late November. cant find the TRD Off road trim or order it anymore after going to 3 different states. I finnnaly choose the trd sport in black. Ive test drove them and like them but are very popular and hard to get new in the trim levels above SR5.mine will be here in early to middle December.
Tough to say. I’ll never buy the first year of a new model but I’m definitely not ruling out a swap for the 4th gen a few years into the model. With that said, primary reason I pulled the trigger on the third gen before they stop production was for the V6. 4th gen looks promising though.
People like myself buy TOYOTA TRUCKS for their excellent reliability, we don’t need or want all that stuff & are willing to accept the shortcomings but THE NEW TACOMAS ARE BETTER but you will pay‼️ That being said, the 4Runners are minimal on the technical side but built solid & looks more TRUCKISH ( Is that a word ?) I would not buy any vehicle that has a roaming transmission. Toyota or not. I do not like CVTs either. I love the new Tacomas just waiting to see if the prices will ever go down.

Let me just say ( Thank You for mentioning the Throttle Lag) I’ve had 3 Tacoma over the years and the last 2 both had the Lag. I traded in my 2019 Tacoma for a 2022 Tundra( No Lag) I do want to test drive the 24 Tacoma when it comes to a Dealership near me.
The Overland Torque Tune made me fall back in love with this Tacoma. I had the Pedal Commander and it was a complete waste of money. I have videos about it on my channel if you would like to watch. It’s my complete honest opinion with some facts at the same time 😂
I actually bought it for less than 50K. My dad was a toyota employee for 30 years and they provide a family discount for dealer cost. MSRP was around $52,500 with the premium if I can remember correctly.

I just bought a 2020 and have no issues with the trans at all, the truck has 88K kms on it so its used. I have owned all the other makes of pickups and the Toyota is far better than anything I've owned before. This is my 4th taco and I owned one tundra as well.All good
is this your first tacoma? 510,000 km (over 300,000 miles) on my 2007 tacoma, original owner, original engine, original transmission. My son is using it now. bought a 2023 tacoma in november. i agree with some of your comments, such as the lag, and that toyota has a tendency to "tell us" what we should want wrt features.
I happen to Love my 23 TRD Off Road double cab, 6’ bed Tacoma with the Premium and Technology pkgs. The Only thing I HATE is the Outdated 1990 Black Leather interior. So I reached out to Katzkin and they made and installed new TRD Red Leather seat covers with black trim and stitching. Katzkin removed my Death Black Leather from my seats and put the TRD Red Leather seat covers over the factory seats. I then sold the Black Leather to a friend who also has a 23 TRD in Lunar Rock, with Gloomy Gray cloth interior. He contacted Katzkin and for a small price they removed the cloth seat covers and installed my Black Leather seat covers over his factory seats. I’m happy and he’s happy. My Tacoma is White, so my next mod is to have it 2 toned on the lower exterior body painted with Barcelona Red Metallic. I be noticed a considerable horsepower, torque and mpg since I installed a K&N cold air intake, a Flowmaster Flow FX dual exhaust and the Overland Tailor Tune (Mild / Medium). I have some TRD RED trim pieces covering the chrome trim on the interior and my final touches will be “Center Line” wheels and more aggressive A/T tires, only because we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter here in north central Washington state USA.
I just bought a 2023 as well. I love it. I wish I got the 4x4 but I’ve never needed it. I think your dislikes are invalid to me. I do agree with the shifting, it is annoying, mine had 4 miles when I got it and I’ve owned it now for 3 weeks and have about 1500 miles on it. I bought it because I wanted one but also the reliability factor. I’m use to a full size truck and I really need one for work because I carry everything for jobs, but then realized I don’t need to. The other guys need to step it up. Plus I don’t like any of the new full sized trucks. My gas mileage is good. Averaging about 20-26mpg. I get better mileage Not using the cruise control. It fluctuates too much. I do love it and will have it till it absolutely dies.
Install an Overland Tailor Tune on your Tacoma and that will STOP the transmission from “hunting” for the right gear. Furthermore it causes 100% of your torque to kick in at 2K RPM instead of the 3,500 RPM. The OTT costs about $500
the one thing I have to say is where you blindfolded when you bought that truck you didn't see these things or when you drove it you didn't notice any of these things why did you buy this truck. I'm not saying that they're not legitimate complaints but the things you are saying I think you should have noticed through driving.
I get that I own a 2004 Tacoma but that still doesn't explain your your complaints the steering wheel I'm sure you sat in it the back seat legroom you should have seen the poor quality of the interior I would think you would have seen get a water bottle and if you drove it you should have noticed the shifting problemsnot only that it's been all over the Internet about the shifting
@@TRDTalk yes it is holding up well a little over 200,000 miles.and I must say that is one fine-looking truck you have there I would rather own it then the 24 with the 2.7 l motor. I don't believe that small motor with turbocharged it's going to have the reliability or the longevity of your 23.

Enjoyed the video. I bought a 23 Tacoma Sport earlier this summer. I had the Overland Torque Tune done and it got rid of the "gear hunting" issues as well as the throttle response issue. Drives fantastic especially on the highway. Not sure what my 0-60 is? But.. Waaay better than stock! As for price...I paid $43,000 and my Sport came with Dealership Tinted windows, Nitto Ridge Grapplers and extended warranty. Im happy!! My 3rd Toyota truck.
I disagree about the water bottle sizing. That is not a regular sized water bottle. I also have an SUV and there is no driver side SUV grab bar. The Air vents for the back seats are under the front seats. Tacomas are popular; that is why they are hard to find.
It isn’t snappy but that is them trying to make it last get a little tune on it and you’re good to go that’s all it really needs I know it is lacking features but the less things to break the better
100% agree with everything mentioned. I was interested in the Tacomas, but the cramped interior, bad sitting postions, lack of overall usable space, and very outdated and unrefined feel turned me off... Curious how the 2024 are in comparison.
The new 2024 Tacoma limited does not have air vents in the back seat either and I think the new Tacoma has a lot of plastic in the interior love the truck can’t wait to get one
i had a few tacomas when i was in my 20s... my body could take its abuse on long trips and traffic... now in my late 30s, I've left childish things behind and moved up to the Tundra... it's night and day. more confortable, more power, basically same mpg, more loading space, better in every way.
I definitely agree with the flaws that you mentioned, but I think you forgot a couple of things, such as the halogen headlights and the interior halogen lighting. They should've been equipped with LED headlights and interior lights from the factory. I paid nearly 45 grand for my Trd Sport, and I was a bit underwhelmed with these things, and now I had to go spend thousands of dollars to upgrade it just to make it look like the way it should come from the factory. It seems like Toyota doesn’t care about that one Note, Toyota parts are not cheap by any stretch of imagination.
My TRD Off Road was equipped with LED headlights and fog lights. I specifically sought out my truck configuration so I wouldn’t have to spent money to upgrade inferior OEM parts.
First time Tacome Onwer, bought a brand new 2023 Tacome TRD OR, 7 months ago, I like my truck , but I just got OTT Tune and now my truck is a game changer, stop Crying to all you crybaby and just get it TUNE. I was VERY skeptical at first nit going to lie, but I did my research and I am glad I got the Tune.
I bought a 2023 TRD Off-road in December 2022. I like the truck overall but the OEM auto transmission programming is straight trash. Even after the OTT tune I’m still not thrilled with it. It lugs constantly as it is always shifting to get into the highest gear possible for fuel efficiency. The tune improved the gear hunting some and greatly improved the throttle lag which has made driving it more tolerable. And it has gotten somewhat smoother over 7k miles but it is still not great. I’m really fighting the urge to test drive the new GMC Canyon. Doubt I would change since the Canyon is brand new and is experiencing some first year issues, but it sure looks good and I wouldn’t mind having that 430 lb/ft of torque on hand. And the Tacoma interior is functional and I like the simplicity of it. It is tight with no rattles or creaks but the quality of materials for the price is subpar. The hard plastics scratch really easily. Especially the gauge cluster. I put PPF on mine to hide the ridiculous surface scratches from lightly wiping dust off the gauge cluster. For $45k, the materials are really lacking.

Yes gas mileage, if you train your taco with ECT on…. A little ruff shifting to start but after the transmission and engine training is done you will find it very responsive pushing the gas pedal a few mm with smooth shifting, holding revs around 1500-2000 rpm shifting around 2200-2500 with a light foot. Just did a road trip to Toronto a few days ago with cruse control on 90 km/hour 8.7 L/100 and the way back at 110-120km/hour at 10.5 L/100km. Never once hunting for gears.
Rides a little ruff for a couple of weeks but stick with it. Now if I drive with it off it takes a few day to get back to its setting. It’s like a built in commander petal. With just the one setting that feels like a manual, even downshifting to 3rd when braking.
I had a 2007 sport 4x4 crew cab I purchased new, plenty of power, shifted smooth, rode great, no issues. Sold that to purchase a 2023 sport 4x4 crew cab. I loved all the added features with the 2023 but absolutely HATED the jerkiness of driving between 40-50mph because it needed to down shift but won’t, the feeling is as the truck has a misfire. I really thought something was wrong with it so I kept taking it to the service department for them to say it’s normal. This was my 4th Tacoma and I feel Toyota really dropped the ball on this one. I hated it so bad it only had 5,000 miles on it and I got rid of it ! If the 4th generation isn’t improved with the 4cyl/10 speed I am DONE with Tacoma plain and simple
I haven’t replaced it yet as I’m currently driving our spare car awaiting on the 2024 arrival and decide from there. If I had a choice I would have never sold my 2007. Bold move you say, yes I agree, but I was miserable driving the 2023 due to the constant wrong gear it would or would not find. I figure if I’m spending 45k on a truck it should be a pleasure to drive. I know they have aftermarket fixes but with that kind of money I shouldn’t have to “fix it” myself
Couple weeks ago I got a 23’ Lunar rock off road in cash. I love it so far and have mods planned for it. The only downside is that’s it’s very sluggish but nothing that a OTT tune can’t fix. With all due respect I bought the taco for reliability not for the luxury. IMO better than America trucks
A tune is best for the Taco. It helps with throttle as well as transmission gear hunting. Pedal Commander is great for throttle, but doesn't help gear hunting. Spend the money on the tune.
Part of the reason these things keep getting so expensive is people keep wanting more and more useless crap in their interiors like back seat usb ports and air vents. All the computer crap needs to go. A heater and AC is all you really need. There’s so many portable speakers nowadays you really don’t even need a radio if you also have a smart phone (which I do not. My phone still flips) I hate how they keep putting in so much fancy crap as “standard” instead of options. I have a 2017 sr5 and that has so much crap that I don’t even use.
My transmission shifting got better after about 10k miles on it. I don’t notice all the shifting like I did early on. I’m just at 13k miles now. My biggest complaint is the seat and leg pain.

Yes bought two 1 1/ 2 spacers at lowes but I have the same problem as you steering wheel tow low hard to get into seat I'm not that tall about 5 10 never had troubles with my ford but it is a nice riding truck it is a 2023 waited 11 mos to get it It was not the one I ordered thanks for the info
@@TRDTalk I can live with these 5 short comings, for the sake of having a great pickup. But I have ask why do I have to, they are small things that could be rectified.. I had a 2022, I don't think the 2024 Tacoma's have a handle on the drivers side.
My biggest complaint would be the lack of steering wheel not telescoping. Second, sitting to low to the floor. Third, which is hardly worth mentioning but the floppy, non locking gas cap door. Fourth, transmission always hunting gears. Not really interested in fourth gen because of the twin turbo 4 cylinder. I just don't see it lasting.

i didnt like my 2022 tacoma sr5 either, owned it for 5 months before selling it. I dreamed about having a tacoma for 14 years lol, i wanted to buy new and couldnt get a good deal until 2022 (of all times lol) but after 5 months im like "really, thats it? this is a tacoma?" i had a 1991 toyota pickup that i sold 5 years ago, i still miss that lil truck all the time. Id rather have a pickup.

It took you six months to allocate your 23 Tacoma it took others 12 to 18 months to get a Tacoma but you do got one good point the automatic transmission crappy but what do you expect? It’s all about fuel economy, and emissions. That’s why some people allocated it in a manual transmission
Yes you do my friend have to spend 300 for a commander because toyota wanted EFF and if you want to fix it you have to come out of pocket. Just like the tune , these trucks suck stock thats why I didnt buy one- just not fun to drive
2021 Honda Ridgline touring model has better interior features when it comes to comfort, cup holders, USB ports air conditioning and seating space than this 2023 tacoma. The payload on the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is close to 1500 lbs and it can tow a 3000 lbs fishing boat easy. I think most truck buyers buy too much of a truck for their needs. If you had to drive 5 hours and your buddies want to go on a trip and you had a choice to pick the tacoma or the ridgeline to travel in I bet your buddies will pick the Ridgeline because they will choose comfort. It is all personal preference they say but 95 percent of driving need are on the pavement instead off road use. Honda is a mid size truck and if you do not think so try fitting a 4x4 atv in a Honda Pilot or a Passport, you can't. I can tow a boat, a camper, an Atv 4x4 etc. what more can you ask for.
Tacoma is like a good old big dog. It may not be the prettiest r trendiest, but it is there for you no matter what.

I usually sell our full sized vehicles (all GMC) around 60-70k miles as experience has taught me the 125-150k mile mark brings issues. We’ve had a few sedans too and off the lot BMW is our favorite…but, The BMWs (7 series) usually have issues much earlier.
Bottom line for me is the Tacoma- while by far the least expensive of the vehicles we buy it is by far the best value. I tell folks it’s like horses…don’t buy a walker/trotter and expect it to compete with the roping horse when roping, know what you need. The Tacoma is a master of very little but does most things well and it is dependable and that to me is a winner.

I went from having a older model Tacoma to a 2023. I did not notice any of that. It was a breath of fresh air to be in a brand new truck again. My old Tacoma had over 300k on it (still have it) and that’s why it cost so much. My old Tacoma out lived so many of my friends vehicles and way more dependable then any of their trucks. Keep it basic, less things to go wrong. Also the build them in the city I live in. San Antonio.

You hit the nail on the head as far as reliability goes, I have a 2010 trd sport with 73,000 miles ,.. got the new frame two years ago … still drives like the day I drove it off the show room floor in December of 2009

Totally disagree about the interior being outdated. I love the interior, functional without the fluff. And now I’ll contradict that statement to some me complaining about the adaptive cruise control, I wish it were better. 🍻

I sold my 1997 Tacoma for a 2021 TRD OR a couple of years ago. I am with you on the driver side handle. I really miss that feature during rough road 4x4. Both sides have air bags on the pillar regardless of the handle. Maybe driver side user mods are easier without the handle? Cost? I guess the TacomaWorld forum might have an answer.

There are air ducts under the front seats that direct heat or cool air to the rear seat passengers. I have 16,500 miles on my TRD Sport. It took about 10,000 miles and by then the truck seemed to adapt to my driving and the gear hunting went away for the most part. It still hunts on the open roads going up hills but I have learned when to slide my gear shift knob to the left which keeps the truck in its one to one ratio 4th gear( 5th and 6th gears are overdrive gears) and the gear hunting goes away but the engine is at a higher rpm of course. I have put Seat Jackers on the front seats which tilt the seats rearward just a little which results in the seat supporting your thigh, making a big difference in comfort. I too am 5-11. I replaced my stock tires with the Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires in the 265/70R17 115T size. These tires are 1 inch taller which gives you better ground clearance and fills the fender wells nicely. This is a 32inch diameter, 10.5 inch wide tire. I live in snow country and they are excellent for snow, better for wet roads, self cleaning of annoying rocks that stick inside the tread and, because of the one inch more sidewall than the stock tires, have a smoother ride. I stayed with the stock wheels because they are unique to the TRD Sport and I think they are a really nice looking wheel. I also have the technology package on my Tacoma which gives you the LED headlights with the cool turn signals, among other cool technology functions.

Seems all these things could be discovered on a test drive if you pay attention. As for price, my 2020 Off Road I got new for $6k under MSRP with a free 10 year extended warranty. I understand things are a bit different now but I have helped friends negotiate under MSRP this year so it can be done. Also, I got the 6MT so the transmission and throttle lag issues aren’t an issue.

I got use to the transmission. After the first 1000 miles it seems like its learned how I drive now. It holds shifts longer and accelerates smoother. They don't break so I could care less how clunky it is. If you take your foot off the gas at 50mph and let it coast to slow itself down you will figure out at what speeds it downshifts to engine brake. Mine smoothed out quite a bit. You really just have to give it a little extra throttle to prevent the upshifting. I just got a 2023 SR5 Double Cab Long bed 4x4. The interior is great imo. It doesn't break and cleans easily since its plastic.

I have a 2022 DCLB and especially between 11000 and 15000 my transmission seemed to adapt and it feels really good pretty much all the time now. I have 19000 now. Very enjoyable now!
Get the Overland Tailor Torque tune. I did and its like I have a different truck. Gear hunting and throttle lag both gone. I have a 23 trd off road and those issues drive me insane. I got the OTT mild to medium tune and couldn't be happier.

Wondering how much these points were improved in the '24 model. The hybrid version probably improves the throttle lag, and has great gas mileage, but... You pay for it upfront as this is probably the most expensive trim. Also, with all the new complications like turbo and hybrid technology, I am not sure this would have the same famous reliability Toyota trucks always had

The gen 3 is already a dumpster fire as far as reliability is concerned so it cant get much worse. I ignored all the reliability issues on tacoma world and it's abysmal CR survey results because all my Toyota's were incredibly reliable. My '19 had more issues in the 3 years I owned it than every other vehicle I've ever owned combined.

I have the same exact configuration as yours. I find the same exact things are annoying, especially the steering wheel/seating arrangement. If they had this same configuration with manual transmission, I would've gotten that, but unfortunately they don't have it with long bed.

I have the 2005 PreRunner DCSB TRD model and love it! Bought it used with 80k miles, and it now has over 172k miles. It does need a new paint job as the clear coat on the Black Sand Pearl paint is fading. I also will be looking at getting new rims eventually.

This is a minor gripe, but my wife and I both use the truck and need different seat positions. I hate having to readjust the seat to find my "perfect" seat position after my wife has used the truck. I would think in 2023 the drivers seat at a minimum would have a memory function.

The number one complaint regarding vehicles seems to be the auto trans. That momentary hesitation (I refer to it as computer thinking time to interact with the other computers), drives me nuts. The manual, you have that tactile engagement, put it in gear, and it responds, instantaneously. That is the main reason that I only like the manual 6 speed transmission. My 2020 Tacoma TRD sport just recently was totalled out in a front end impact. Five air bags deployed. I surely agree with you on the seating position. I am using my 15 year old Nissan Xterra, and the seat support and driving position, imo, far out surpasses the Tacoma. Hopefully the upcoming 2024 model has addressed the issues you bring up. I'm just glad that the 6 speed manual will still be available.

I just sold my 2019 Tacoma TRD sport premium for 2K more then I bought it for new in Jan 2019 and put a deposit down a new 2024 model. I've had 2 Tacomas and never hand any problems with them. I hope the new 4th gen holds up as good as the previous versions.

I ordered my sport premium end of September and received mid November 2023. I have the wireless charging, apple play and leather seats. Now regarding pricing, I was shopping the RAM and then went to the Tacoma dealer and hands down the Tacoma for the same price was way more loaded. I love my tacoma. Love the interior, leather seats, moon roof, power sliding rear window, tie downs in the bed, composite bed, also love that I can monitor my truck from anywhere in the world. Right now I’m in Indonesia and I can see what the status of my truck is.

As far as I know, yes. Some shops will remove the tune if you need to use the warranty as part of the original tune price

I just ordered my 2023 TRD Sport in late November. cant find the TRD Off road trim or order it anymore after going to 3 different states. I finnnaly choose the trd sport in black. Ive test drove them and like them but are very popular and hard to get new in the trim levels above SR5.mine will be here in early to middle December.

Tough to say. I’ll never buy the first year of a new model but I’m definitely not ruling out a swap for the 4th gen a few years into the model. With that said, primary reason I pulled the trigger on the third gen before they stop production was for the V6. 4th gen looks promising though.
People like myself buy TOYOTA TRUCKS for their excellent reliability, we don’t need or want all that stuff & are willing to accept the shortcomings but THE NEW TACOMAS ARE BETTER but you will pay‼️ That being said, the 4Runners are minimal on the technical side but built solid & looks more TRUCKISH ( Is that a word ?) I would not buy any vehicle that has a roaming transmission. Toyota or not. I do not like CVTs either. I love the new Tacomas just waiting to see if the prices will ever go down.

Let me just say ( Thank You for mentioning the Throttle Lag) I’ve had 3 Tacoma over the years and the last 2 both had the Lag. I traded in my 2019 Tacoma for a 2022 Tundra( No Lag) I do want to test drive the 24 Tacoma when it comes to a Dealership near me.

You bought this for $50K CAD with a premium package? I find that cheap for Canada. Usually, Tacomas are expensive there.
I actually bought it for less than 50K. My dad was a toyota employee for 30 years and they provide a family discount for dealer cost. MSRP was around $52,500 with the premium if I can remember correctly.

I just bought a 2020 and have no issues with the trans at all, the truck has 88K kms on it so its used. I have owned all the other makes of pickups and the Toyota is far better than anything I've owned before. This is my 4th taco and I owned one tundra as well.All good

My son is using it now. bought a 2023 tacoma in november. i agree with some of your comments, such as the lag, and that toyota has a tendency to "tell us" what we should want wrt features.

I happen to Love my 23 TRD Off Road double cab, 6’ bed Tacoma with the Premium and Technology pkgs. The Only thing I HATE is the Outdated 1990 Black Leather interior. So I reached out to Katzkin and they made and installed new TRD Red Leather seat covers with black trim and stitching.
Katzkin removed my Death Black Leather from my seats and put the TRD Red Leather seat covers over the factory seats.
I then sold the Black Leather to a friend who also has a 23 TRD in Lunar Rock, with Gloomy Gray cloth interior.
He contacted Katzkin and for a small price they removed the cloth seat covers and installed my Black Leather seat covers over his factory seats.
I’m happy and he’s happy.
My Tacoma is White, so my next mod is to have it 2 toned on the lower exterior body painted with Barcelona Red Metallic.
I be noticed a considerable horsepower, torque and mpg since I installed a K&N cold air intake, a Flowmaster Flow FX dual exhaust and the Overland Tailor Tune (Mild / Medium).
I have some TRD RED trim pieces covering the chrome trim on the interior and my final touches will be “Center Line” wheels and more aggressive A/T tires, only because we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter here in north central Washington state USA.
Just like you say the tranz shifts a lot to get the best mpgs.But one can shift manually in sport mode to control shifts

I hate the fact that they have tiny little drum brakes on the rear. Brakes seem weak to me compared to my 4runner that has disc brakes all around

I just bought a 2023 as well. I love it. I wish I got the 4x4 but I’ve never needed it. I think your dislikes are invalid to me. I do agree with the shifting, it is annoying, mine had 4 miles when I got it and I’ve owned it now for 3 weeks and have about 1500 miles on it. I bought it because I wanted one but also the reliability factor. I’m use to a full size truck and I really need one for work because I carry everything for jobs, but then realized I don’t need to. The other guys need to step it up. Plus I don’t like any of the new full sized trucks. My gas mileage is good. Averaging about 20-26mpg. I get better mileage Not using the cruise control. It fluctuates too much. I do love it and will have it till it absolutely dies.

Install an Overland Tailor Tune on your Tacoma and that will STOP the transmission from “hunting” for the right gear. Furthermore it causes 100% of your torque to kick in at 2K RPM instead of the 3,500 RPM.

I get that I own a 2004 Tacoma but that still doesn't explain your your complaints the steering wheel I'm sure you sat in it the back seat legroom you should have seen the poor quality of the interior I would think you would have seen get a water bottle and if you drove it you should have noticed the shifting problemsnot only that it's been all over the Internet about the shifting

Enjoyed the video. I bought a 23 Tacoma Sport earlier this summer. I had the Overland Torque Tune done and it got rid of the "gear hunting" issues as well as the throttle response issue. Drives fantastic especially on the highway. Not sure what my 0-60 is? But.. Waaay better than stock! As for price...I paid $43,000 and my Sport came with Dealership Tinted windows, Nitto Ridge Grapplers and extended warranty. Im happy!! My 3rd Toyota truck.

I disagree about the water bottle sizing. That is not a regular sized water bottle. I also have an SUV and there is no driver side SUV grab bar. The Air vents for the back seats are under the front seats. Tacomas are popular; that is why they are hard to find.

The new 2024 Tacoma limited does not have air vents in the back seat either and I think the new Tacoma has a lot of plastic in the interior love the truck can’t wait to get one

i had a few tacomas when i was in my 20s... my body could take its abuse on long trips and traffic... now in my late 30s, I've left childish things behind and moved up to the Tundra... it's night and day. more confortable, more power, basically same mpg, more loading space, better in every way.

I definitely agree with the flaws that you mentioned, but I think you forgot a couple of things, such as the halogen headlights and the interior halogen lighting. They should've been equipped with LED headlights and interior lights from the factory. I paid nearly 45 grand for my Trd Sport, and I was a bit underwhelmed with these things, and now I had to go spend thousands of dollars to upgrade it just to make it look like the way it should come from the factory. It seems like Toyota doesn’t care about that one Note, Toyota parts are not cheap by any stretch of imagination.

My TRD Off Road was equipped with LED headlights and fog lights. I specifically sought out my truck configuration so I wouldn’t have to spent money to upgrade inferior OEM parts.
First time Tacome Onwer, bought a brand new 2023 Tacome TRD OR, 7 months ago, I like my truck , but I just got OTT Tune and now my truck is a game changer, stop Crying to all you crybaby and just get it TUNE. I was VERY skeptical at first nit going to lie, but I did my research and I am glad I got the Tune.

I bought a 2023 TRD Off-road in December 2022. I like the truck overall but the OEM auto transmission programming is straight trash. Even after the OTT tune I’m still not thrilled with it. It lugs constantly as it is always shifting to get into the highest gear possible for fuel efficiency. The tune improved the gear hunting some and greatly improved the throttle lag which has made driving it more tolerable. And it has gotten somewhat smoother over 7k miles but it is still not great. I’m really fighting the urge to test drive the new GMC Canyon. Doubt I would change since the Canyon is brand new and is experiencing some first year issues, but it sure looks good and I wouldn’t mind having that 430 lb/ft of torque on hand. And the Tacoma interior is functional and I like the simplicity of it. It is tight with no rattles or creaks but the quality of materials for the price is subpar. The hard plastics scratch really easily. Especially the gauge cluster. I put PPF on mine to hide the ridiculous surface scratches from lightly wiping dust off the gauge cluster. For $45k, the materials are really lacking.

Yes gas mileage, if you train your taco with ECT on…. A little ruff shifting to start but after the transmission and engine training is done you will find it very responsive pushing the gas pedal a few mm with smooth shifting, holding revs around 1500-2000 rpm shifting around 2200-2500 with a light foot.
Just did a road trip to Toronto a few days ago with cruse control on 90 km/hour 8.7 L/100 and the way back at 110-120km/hour at 10.5 L/100km. Never once hunting for gears.

Rides a little ruff for a couple of weeks but stick with it. Now if I drive with it off it takes a few day to get back to its setting.
It’s like a built in commander petal. With just the one setting that feels like a manual, even downshifting to 3rd when braking.
I had a 2007 sport 4x4 crew cab I purchased new, plenty of power, shifted smooth, rode great, no issues. Sold that to purchase a 2023 sport 4x4 crew cab. I loved all the added features with the 2023 but absolutely HATED the jerkiness of driving between 40-50mph because it needed to down shift but won’t, the feeling is as the truck has a misfire. I really thought something was wrong with it so I kept taking it to the service department for them to say it’s normal. This was my 4th Tacoma and I feel Toyota really dropped the ball on this one. I hated it so bad it only had 5,000 miles on it and I got rid of it ! If the 4th generation isn’t improved with the 4cyl/10 speed I am DONE with Tacoma plain and simple

I haven’t replaced it yet as I’m currently driving our spare car awaiting on the 2024 arrival and decide from there. If I had a choice I would have never sold my 2007. Bold move you say, yes I agree, but I was miserable driving the 2023 due to the constant wrong gear it would or would not find. I figure if I’m spending 45k on a truck it should be a pleasure to drive. I know they have aftermarket fixes but with that kind of money I shouldn’t have to “fix it” myself

Couple weeks ago I got a 23’ Lunar rock off road in cash. I love it so far and have mods planned for it. The only downside is that’s it’s very sluggish but nothing that a OTT tune can’t fix. With all due respect I bought the taco for reliability not for the luxury. IMO better than America trucks

A tune is best for the Taco. It helps with throttle as well as transmission gear hunting. Pedal Commander is great for throttle, but doesn't help gear hunting. Spend the money on the tune.

Typical complaints for 3G tacoma, I have no problem further after getting mine tuned by OTT. It's no fancy stuff but solid everywhere on and off road.

Part of the reason these things keep getting so expensive is people keep wanting more and more useless crap in their interiors like back seat usb ports and air vents. All the computer crap needs to go. A heater and AC is all you really need. There’s so many portable speakers nowadays you really don’t even need a radio if you also have a smart phone (which I do not. My phone still flips) I hate how they keep putting in so much fancy crap as “standard” instead of options. I have a 2017 sr5 and that has so much crap that I don’t even use.
Gotta respect the flip phone commitment!
My transmission shifting got better after about 10k miles on it. I don’t notice all the shifting like I did early on. I’m just at 13k miles now. My biggest complaint is the seat and leg pain.

I have a 2023 not only I cant get my legs under the steering wheel I am not a low rider had to put spacers in the back of the front seat Also had to wait 11 mos to get it and was not the one I ordered Love the ride Always a ford truck guy Sure like my Tocoma

Yes bought two 1 1/ 2 spacers at lowes but I have the same problem as you steering wheel tow low hard to get into seat I'm not that tall about 5 10 never had troubles with my ford but it is a nice riding truck it is a 2023 waited 11 mos to get it It was not the one I ordered thanks for the info

Your 5 complaints are the same complaints I have. Not having a handle on the drivers side is just plain stupid.
I didn’t think other people would care about not having a handle, i’m so glad i’m not the only one. Drives me crazy haha.
@@TRDTalk I can live with these 5 short comings, for the sake of having a great pickup. But I have ask why do I have to, they are small things that could be rectified.. I had a 2022, I don't think the 2024 Tacoma's have a handle on the drivers side.
Maybe the steering wheel ?
My biggest complaint would be the lack of steering wheel not telescoping. Second, sitting to low to the floor. Third, which is hardly worth mentioning but the floppy, non locking gas cap door. Fourth, transmission always hunting gears. Not really interested in fourth gen because of the twin turbo 4 cylinder. I just don't see it lasting.

i didnt like my 2022 tacoma sr5 either, owned it for 5 months before selling it. I dreamed about having a tacoma for 14 years lol, i wanted to buy new and couldnt get a good deal until 2022 (of all times lol) but after 5 months im like "really, thats it? this is a tacoma?" i had a 1991 toyota pickup that i sold 5 years ago, i still miss that lil truck all the time. Id rather have a pickup.

It took you six months to allocate your 23 Tacoma it took others 12 to 18 months to get a Tacoma but you do got one good point the automatic transmission crappy but what do you expect? It’s all about fuel economy, and emissions. That’s why some people allocated it in a manual transmission

Yes you do my friend have to spend 300 for a commander because toyota wanted EFF and if you want to fix it you have to come out of pocket. Just like the tune , these trucks suck stock thats why I didnt buy one- just not fun to drive

2021 Honda Ridgline touring model has better interior features when it comes to comfort, cup holders, USB ports air conditioning and seating space than this 2023 tacoma. The payload on the 2021 Honda Ridgeline is close to 1500 lbs and it can tow a 3000 lbs fishing boat easy.
I think most truck buyers buy too much of a truck for their needs. If you had to drive 5 hours and your buddies want to go on a trip and you had a choice to pick the tacoma or the ridgeline to travel in I bet your buddies will pick the Ridgeline because they will choose comfort. It is all personal preference they say but 95 percent of driving need are on the pavement instead off road use. Honda is a mid size truck and if you do not think so try fitting a 4x4 atv in a Honda Pilot or a Passport, you can't. I can tow a boat, a camper, an Atv 4x4 etc. what more can you ask for.
