The tyson team kept mike away from witherspoon in the early days as tim wasnt afraid of mike, it is widely regarded he threw the smith fight just to escape don king.
@@bigdaddy4069 mike was brilliant to watch but he had flaws such as he stood square on and could be knocked off balance as he lept from the crouch throwing hooks. smith tucker and bruno all proved this with good counter punches.witherspoon being savvy and fast would of tested mike to the limit and may of worn him out over a long tedious fight.
@@alarmactionukalarmactionuk893 plus its a proven fact that Tyson NEVER overcame adversity in the ring and if you stood up to him, he lost. Classic bully, regardless of his physical ability.
So a few years before this Cooney, who was a challenger was introduced after Holmes who was the Champ and it was racism but notice this never gets talked about, Witherspoon the champ being introduced before Bruno?. And they came into Bruno's Backyard also.
Bruno was an embarrassing disappointment to the UK. He lost against 2 bums, and KO'd within 3 rounds against an over the hill Tyson who just came out of prison. Also, let's not forget the Lewis fight in 1993. Yes, Bruno was ahead on points but let's not forget that Lennox hadn't reached his peak yet and the fact that Bruno couldn't take a punch very well. But tbh, I had that fight a draw on my scorecard before the stoppage. Bruno couldn't even hold a major belt. The only time he did was in the Oliver McCall fight, and tbh, he was nearly KO'd in the 11th or 12th round and I bet on any money if it was a 15th rounder, he would of been TKO'd in the 14th round. Even when he managed to beat McCall for the WBC belt, he couldn't even defend it not even once when he fought an over the hill Tyson. In all fairness, Bruno was a brilliant fighter and possibly an elite journeyman and a B level fighter, but was extremely overrated by the British public. He was a paper champion and nothing more. Maybe if he worked on his defence, fought in spurts and paces and was more betterly disciplined, he could of been great for his era, but in the end, he was nothing but a lost talent. The only British Heavyweight that managed to accomplish things and to be underrated is probably Lennox Lewis. In fact he is my favourite fighter and always will be.
@@jacobh7188 world champion not anything to be embarrassed about. I thought Frank was one of those characters who was good for the sport. Of Lennox was the absolute best but frank was cool. The press conference with him and lewis was the first time I had ever heard British people talk with slang and insult each other. He wasn't the best but he was good.
Would Joshua beat Bruno ? Im not so sure. I rekon Big Frank gets to him n gets him outa there, he gave prime Lennox Lewis hell for 7 or 8 rounds when at that stage in his career he had no right to, then he went on to win a World title. Bruno had heart.
The man "Treacherous" Tim Witherspoon! I knew he was gonna get him, it was just a matter of time. I knew Tim would catch him and i knew Bruno could not take Witherspoon's power. I do think Witherspoon could have come in a little better shape but that's history. Bruno is a good boxer for the UK he is the typical stand straightup fighter that is the British fighting style. Bruno really has little power with basic boxing skills and a semi-glass jaw. Bruno should stick to the UK boxing scene where he could become the heavyweight champion but against good world class United States heavyweight contenders he is mince meat. Anyways congratulations to the man "Treacherous" Tim Witherspoon for a well fought victory!!! As for myself I'm Dj Flare Saying Goodnight UA-cam Boxing Fans!!!
@@aarondigby9859 If you are "in the know" as they say you will know that Tim Witherspoon prefers the name "Treacherous" over "Terrible" because being called 'Terrible" in Tim's train of thought could make the word "terrible" mean that he is a terrible fighter. Witherspoon got that nickname years ago in the early 1980's so he sort of got stuck with it you see. Friends and fighters call him treacherous but when the ring announcer gets ready to announce the fighters names it's Terrible Tim Witherspooon!!! Get it? Yes? No.
We were all very proud in England of Frank's performance. Witherspoon's experience told in the end, he knew how to pace himself and worked out Frank's style. Also good to see Witherspoon, King and all the entourage waving US flags showing their patriotism to America.
Paul Wiley Frank Bruno was a boring dull fighter without killer instinct /heart and guts , never threw hard double jabs / uppercut /flurries or power punches in bunches...he was a scared fighter against tough competition , such a letdown !
@@cozycool3505 I disagree. Bruno fought some roundheels & despatched them quickly enough. But he could never be accused of lacking guts when he fought the big contenders. So he lost - big deal! He never lost without making the fight a real contest. I hark back to the days of Henry Cooper, who was never gonna be World Champion. But when he put Ali on the canvas, he achieved fame for all time.
@@cozycool3505 Undoubtedly Frank Bruno was limited from a technical point of view but his right was very heavy, Whiterspoon himself said that he was the hardest puncher I face during his career.
Tim let the politics of boxing throw him off his focus. Guys like Smith and Thomas kept getting shots at the champs but not Tim? That's because all the champs and high ranked contenders knew the deal. Tim had a 5 fight losing streak and still couldn't get Holyfield, Tyson, George, Riddick, Lenox etc to get in the ring. You'd think a guy losing 5 in a row would be considered shot. Those guys all knew the deal. A motivated Tim would've kicked a whole lot of azz.

Question ( rhetorical) when have you seen a referee help a fighter to his feet with a big hug and lift ? Must be a British referee from that city I guess !
And I think you'll find the referee is Venezuelan and was appointed by the WBA. Clearly the fight had been stopped otherwise the ref would not have man handled Bruno. It would have taken you seconds to google for that information.
Bruno in my opinion could have built up a much better boxing CV. After this loss he fought mediocrities and half decent fighters in between unsuccessful title shots against Lewis and twice against Tyson. Clearly he was being "well managed" but it would have been nice to be able to look back on a career with a few more top wins than Gerrie Coetzee and Oliver McCall as there were other top contenders around against whom Bruno could and should have won. But then again we all know what can happen when a fighter takes one too many punches. Gerry Quarry and James Toney spring to mind.
@@scottybottybanana The payday was important no doubt but many a fighter has been managed to take minimal risk in between title shots. Gerry Cooney springs to mind. I have seen interviews where Cooney laments how his management team became obsessed with the Larry Holmes title fight to the point where Cooney was inactive for a huge period of time and by the time they fought he was not battle hardened against decent top tenners.
Bruno fought Tillis, Gross, Bugner, Ribalta, Pierre Coetzee, Carl Williams and Jesse Ferguson in non title bouts after this loss. Hus record stands up against most heavyweights except for the exceptional world champions.
@@richardbaker3000 None of those fighters were anywhere near title contenders. The best wins of Bruno's career were against Oliver McCall and Gerry Coetzee neither of whom you mentioned.
He wasn't counted out. The referee stopped the fight to save Bruno from further punishment. Doesn't matter how much time's left in the round - 8 seconds of punches could see a guy killed.
Would you even know who Michael Dokes, Tony Tucker, Buster Douglas, Tim Witherspoon or Pinklon Thomas even were if Don King didn’t give those guys fights? 100% sure King made the names I mentioned title holders, and NONE of them would had careers or made half the money they made. Problem was, none of the names I mention were able to manage themselves or the money they made under King. Those fighters ruined themselves. King just gave them a career to ruin.

Looks like the commentators wanted Tim to lose. Merchant has always been a very bad commentator anyway. Great fight
Yes! He always have Sucked! 1love
Merchant definitely wasn't shy about what he was feeling. I disagree with your comment when it comes to Barry Thompkins and SRL. Especially Thompkins, he is one of the best ever and didn't show bias.
@@torinowens6103 If he sucks for speaking his mind, then yes he sucks. Talking about Tim's shape and his state of mind, doesn't make him suck. It how he phrases it in such a condescending manner that most people take offensive with. As a commentator, he isn't that great. As boxing personality, he was great at that.
Love this fight. Terrible throwing bombs hanging in there... that short left hook hurt Bruno a lot, or it woke him up, hard to tell...
Bruno could take punch! Come join my UA-cam Channel!
@@timwitherspoon1378 I'm with you champ... on boxing scene and here.
I agree! Larry Merchant was wrong.

that weight increase, blood doping they do it with racehorses too. take some blood store it keep highly oxygenated then inject it back in the body just before the race/fight. more stamina
Utter crap fella, total and complete CRAP !!
Im not even sure crack cocaine would give you much of an edge.
It could have been Bruno v Tubbs if Witherspoon had been disqualified for having Marijuana in his body
Gotta love the Psychological front from the American corner surrounding the British corner by going up close and keeping close to them during there national anthem
Pretty cool pre fight psyche warfare.
The Yanks back in the day were a Boisterous big bad presence.
Witherspoon was a really good fighter when motivated.
He'd of beaten the tyson that faced smith instead of him.
@Boris The Blade Witherspoon would indeed have had every chance of beating Tyson.
Tyson had his limitations against big athletic heavyweights who could take a shot.
The tyson team kept mike away from witherspoon in the early days as tim wasnt afraid of mike, it is widely regarded he threw the smith fight just to escape don king.
@@alarmactionukalarmactionuk893 Exactly right.
The witherspoon that faced Holmes and Bruno would've ended the myth of 'iron Mike' before it started.
Tim Witherspoon had a great right hand - he seriously hurt Larry Holmes and others with it
Frank Bruno was awesome, I remember being jealous that the UK had him. Lol
@@jacobh7188 naw man Bruno was a good dude and a good fighter he represented the UK well

Bruno boxed really good until he was knocked out.
Mr Bruno protect ur self., don’t stand and look.
I wish he would put the dates
1:34 the little English graphics are cute aw.
Larry Merchant doesn’t know shit about boxing. He proved it again today.
There wasn't too many questions about lennox lewis mr merchant..
Larry Merchant rarely knew what to say. He's not a boxing person
At the beginning they get the trunks wrong of each boxer
I thougjt it was "Terrible" Tim Witherspoon, not treacherous Tim Witherspoon, maybe I'm on the wrong side of the pond.
Get it? Yes? No.
for a guy with a semi class as you say, he sure took a lot
of solid rights to the jaw. every boxer can only take
so many punch's
Witherspoon had championship ability...What happened?
Don King.
@@BrooklynAvenue Duly noted...

Mike Tyson happened n wise men plotted a career course that avoided him.
The mercy that Joe Frazier showed to bugner. If it was a black man, Frazier would took his head clean off, just like Ruddock against dokes.
So many hangers on in Witherspoon's entourage, is that why Don King cut his purse?
Tim let the politics of boxing throw him off his focus. Guys like Smith and Thomas kept getting shots at the champs but not Tim? That's because all the champs and high ranked contenders knew the deal. Tim had a 5 fight losing streak and still couldn't get Holyfield, Tyson, George, Riddick, Lenox etc to get in the ring. You'd think a guy losing 5 in a row would be considered shot. Those guys all knew the deal. A motivated Tim would've kicked a whole lot of azz.
Rocky marciano number 1👊👊👊👊

Question ( rhetorical) when have you seen a referee help a fighter to his feet with a big hug and lift ? Must be a British referee from that city I guess !
I think you'll find that, once a referee puts his arms around a fighter, the ref has formally stopped the fight.
And I think you'll find the referee is Venezuelan and was appointed by the WBA. Clearly the fight had been stopped otherwise the ref would not have man handled Bruno.
It would have taken you seconds to google for that information.
Frank bruno j. Savile and Peter Sutcliffe... strange alliance ..

Agreed! 👍🏻
Interesting Mike tyson was looming on the horizon
Didn't think much of the round card girl.
If he was being well managed though, im not sure why he went straight to fight tyson again after getting the title? Unless it was just the payday?
Frank .... COME ON!!!!
I think Witherspoon would had destroyed Tyson have they ever fought.

How can Bruno be counted out if he went down with 8 seconds left ?
He was clearly in no fit state to continue, i'm glad the Ref stepped in between them. Frank could've been seriously hurt otherwise.
woody j the bell can’t save you unless it’s the final round
He wasn't counted out. The referee stopped the fight to save Bruno from further punishment. Doesn't matter how much time's left in the round - 8 seconds of punches could see a guy killed.
Good fighter was Wetherspoon - until Don King played with his head..
Toda la vida Frank Bruno resultó ser tremendo paquete
Why is butch lewis there?
Eu não sei como pode te ficando no boxe um lutador tão ruim como esse Frank Bruno eu nunca vi tão ruim assim
Don King, biggest crook in sports.
Hardly.
A snake of the highest order. I'm glad his empire crumbled to dust, whilst his arch rival Arum is still going strong.
