The 36.5 mm tempered glass fits perfectly, but after gluing it is so tight that there is no gap between the bezel and there is no way to peel it off. I had to chip the edge of the glass with a razor blade and pry it up with a pin. 36 mm will leave a minimal gap that can be peeled off if necessary.

Honestly, the 2X battery life is insane anyway (30+ days), I wouldn't even care if it stopped it from getting scratched. It happens really easily on the 2X :(
I don't think Garmin recommends protectors for any of their solar watches. But I've seen lots of people use them and still benefit from solar charging. I'm sure the material could play a part.
